I would say that so many people call the same thing different names that you are better off trying to sit down with the coaches in your area and learning what they call things. Maybe see if you can get some of their scouting reports on the teams in your area?
Just do me a favor, when a team gets in the shotgun dont say " Uh oh here we go they are running the spread offense now!" HAHAHA good luck.

I had the neuman gloves at the time they were called coaches gloves. Not sure if that has changed.

I think a program manual or outline should answer all of the program building questions.

I cant imagine the HC being in the box. Ideally th eHC doesnt call the Offense, the view from the box is unbeatable. If you have an inexperienced staff like I did when I was HC I called it from the field after being OC and calling it from the box for 6 years. It was a huge adjustent but worked ok. I had to put in extra time with my eyes in the sky on exactly what to look for as he was very inexperienced.

wingt74,
That is a heck of an idea. I assume you are doing position specific blocking and not just putting everyone through OL drills?

Yea that is a tough one also but the way I look at it he can be the best FB out there but if the OL is awful we wont do anything.

Coach Knight,
Great story but how did you get from it sickening him to him actually playing that position? I have had it where the kid embraces it and does great, and where the kid actually under performs in hopes of being moved somewhere else. I understand that standing my ground as a coach is the correct answer, just wondering how you handled the push back while you stood your ground.
Thanks

We got a 15 foot ladder and bungey corded a square piece of plywood on the top to give the tripod some where to stand. That was used in practice. In the games we only had the pressbox shot. In our county you can only use the flagpole cam in the endzone you cannot use cherry pickers or scffolding.

Coaches,
How do you handle making the switch from one position to the next. Especially when a kid thinks he is a skill player and clearly makes a better linemen. In my experience when this switch has been made more then likely the kid ends up not coming back the following year. I think some of it has to do with the Win/Loss record but part of it may be the way it was done. I usually approach it from the angle of the position change will be best for the program and the player. The usual responses I get are I have always played (blank), Dad/Rec coach says I can get a scholarship at (blank). I guess what I am looking for is ways to handle it with the player and parent so that the kid transitions into the new position and actually trusts that I am doing what is best for him and the program. Parents will be parents so I dont think there is anything you can say to get a parent on board who is dead set against the move. I really dont think letting the kid walk away if he doesnt like the position is a realistic answer in my situation as we are a small school and already battle basketball and baseball for the athletes in the school.

One thing I saw in Texas a coouple years ago at a 5A playoff game Kline Oaks did the normal dynamic stretching. But they had 100 kids dressed they all collected in the end zone jumping around and gettign each other going, on the whistle they would all do which ever stretch they were on so it looked like a riot or almost like in braveheart, it truly was controlled chaos, every kid was doing the stretch and not slacking off but from the stands and to the other team it just looked like a mass of fired up kids ready to play.

If your staying on board Id say dont go to 7v7. You will look foolish and like you said you dont get the right kids showing. Secondly I would look for another job where it is an actual program.

Down and distance plays a part. If your giving me the bubble on first and second down and 3rd and short it is more than likely that your loading the box to stop the run so I will throw bubble and have it serve as my running game. Now late in the game if your giving it to us I may not take it if we are way down. I might use something else to attack the middle of the field or quarters. But if we are in run the ball mode that is an extension of the run game and we will take it until the cows come home as long as we feel we can catch it and get 5.

Biggest for me is not so much trusting myself as far as planning and prep, but not getting phsyched out when playing a team that I havent beat in a very long time. Also more so than myself getting my kids to not lose the game in their mind before it is played.

I liek th eidea of forcing a kid to join a sport if they have a sub-par GPA, it may be the lack of discipline or structure that is forcing he/she to drop. I knwo that is a slippery slope but if you have good head coaches I think the school as a whole would funtion better because more kids would be attached to something.

Maryland does it county to county. My county is 2.0 and No E's for the 4th quarter. So a kid can fail a class for the year but still be eligible as long as his 4th quarter grades meet the standard. Also he can go to summer school but only for one class.
Some other counties do it for whole year grades, bust most everyone in MD is 2.0 I think.

We charged $150.00 per team. I would advise you get all th emoney up front. We tried to make it a pretty elite tournament so we went after some of the top teams from our state and neighbooring states. Although we did not make much if any money. We "paid" for a few of the top tier teams in and had some bail on us. We used a local park with turf fields for our site but the parks and rec group charged through the nose and really did nothign more than provide insurance and fields. If you have the space for it do it at your place and you will make money. Make sure you get all the money up front and you have a plan bracket wise if a team bails (maybe have a 2nd team of your kids ready to go). Also get a kick ass concssion stand, do it on a hot day and you really will make some moeny. Our big loss came from Parks and Rec charging us for the number of teams registered, not paid. So no matter if they showed or not, paid or not they got paid for it. They handled all the money and registration which took some off of us but I dont think that is all that difficult, your only talking about 12 teams.
Anyway good luck to you.

To me that would be a huge misuse of funds by admin. Have them plant soem seed and get it nice and grassy then go with the matt idea. Then have them give you the remaining 32400 to spend on football stuff!

I guess then you have to chalk up the lopsided games to preparation and focus? Maybe one of the teams thought they had it in the bag and their preparation may have suffered.
