In Maryland it is 4 classifications and 4 regions in each classification. Nov. 15 Region Semis Nov. 22 Region Final Nov. 29 State Semis Dec. 6 State Finals
Most teams play 10 game schedules with playoffs starting week 10. The top 4 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs based on a point system from size of school you beat and amount of wins they have. A total of 16 teams in each classification make the playoffs.

I like the idea but I am not sure it is realistic. With all of the terminology needed to put a team's play into our terms it could get difficult. It took me two full years to finally get hudl to where I can break a O and D down quicker than pen and paper. I eliminated a lot of the unnecessary columns for us and combined some things to make it flow much easier. It took a while but now I like it a lot. We do not waste time with hash or DD, we have found the HS teams we face are much more formation and strength predictable rather than hash, field area, and DD. I do ODK, Down/Gun, O formation including any motion, play in our terms (iso, sweep, etc), play type, play direction. Defensively just front, any blitz and coverage if a pass. I can then sort it to see how a team plays trips, 2x2

What do you get out of embarrassing a coach in front of the kids? Now you are going to have kids that do not respect or listen to a coach. I completely agree they should be teaching your system and your technique but it is the HC's job to make sure they know that going forward. I think you get a lot more out of the situation in the long run if you address it after practice away from the kids. You can step in and correct a technique that is wrong with out embarrassing the coach.

0-10 4 years ago. Definitely focus on the positive at the banquet. In my situation we had a lot of really nice kids just no a$$ kickers that will help you win games so I wanted to at least make them feel like their effort was not forgotten. As far as moving forward goes you have to really try to look at why you were not successful and how to change that. This starts with looking in the mirror to see what I did that contributed to the 0-10. I then tried to identify a few things that absolutely had to change in order for us to start to improve (discipline, rules, commitment, etc..) I looked at it and agreed that certain things needed to be done but did not think it was possible with the administration at the time so I decided to resign. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do but it was either do something I didn't believe and change nothing or do what I knew was right but receive ZERO support from above. I chose to wish everyone well and move on. Since moving on I have learned so much more then I knew 4 years ago and while I do not regret my decision I now have the itch to be a HC again and of course you never are totally prepared but I feel I have a better understanding of all the "other" stuff that goes into being a HC.

I always air dried them. Wash them regular but they have melted on me in the dryer. We used to have a whole team set I would wash once a week after the games. Wash them Saturday let them air dry Sunday and they were good to go. Cluttered up the dining room and kitchen table but they were good to go.

Turf shoes here, I wear size 17 so not many options. Bigshoes.com has Nike turf shoes I think I paid 80 bucks, they last me 3-4 years and double as my golf shoes.

For all of us bucket heads out there. What would you suggest? A certain style or frame or even company?

Is Face Guarding a penalty in HS? We got called for Pass interferance on Friday night because our defender "face guarded " the WR. I didnt argue it much because I honestly dont know if that is legal or not. Any thoughts?

I would suggest filming it if possible then you can call kids out on effort if that turns out to be the case.

Also I know where I am conditioning tests add merit to our off season program as we are not allowed to make it mandatory and cannot cut due to lack of atendance. So we test and normally the numbers hold true, higher attendance= ppassing the tests. Every once in a while a kid who misses all summer passes the test because he worked out elsewhere but for the most part the skippers are just chasing girls and hanging at the beach all summer and cant pass the test.

I dont claim to be an expert by any means so shoot holes through this.
Doesnt longer distance running increase your endurance which would help you do those short quick "football movements" longer?
Again thats what I have always been told but I sure dont know for sure.

We have done the 16 110's in the past. We gave times of 16 18 and 20 seconds, skills, LB & QB, and linemen We would have 6-8 kids run at a time so their rest period was while the other groups were running. They could miss one, but the second miss they fail the test and have to take it again until they pass it. 100% off season attendance was exempt from the conditioning test.
We usually have a 6 week summer lifting between school getting out and practice starting. Week one and 2 was a 1/2 mile warm up MWF then, agility, plyos or sprint (6/8 110s) Week 3/4 was 3/4 mile warm up 10/12 110s Week 5/6 Mile run 14/16 110s
We believe that if you can run a mile in 7,8,9 min based on position and you attend all the workouts then you are in more than enough shape to pass the conditioning test and use that as a reward.
We end up only having 4-5 kids that make every workout because of vacations and all.

Do your kids make those times? I saw where haynesworth had 70 seconds and 73 seconds to complete his 300 yard shuttle and didnt make it. I would think you would gie younger kids more time. But I have never done that test so I dont know.

Maryland I think goes county to county but in my county its 2.0 and no E's for the 4th auarter. A kid can fail every class for the year as long as they have 2.0 and no E's 4th quarter.

Yea I agree with that, when I called plays from the sideline I would find myself more times then not saying " Shut up so I can think !" I let the guys know a head of time that its never peronal just during the heat of battle you dont have time to talk. I found myself being a bit more firm with less experienced guys that were spottign for me. They thought they had to talk all the time. I have spotted and more times then not less is more especially if your talking directly to the play caller.

Every JV game shuttles no matter how far, the furthest game is probably 30 minutes. They do it because a lot of buses are still dropping off elementary school kids so they are short on busses. If it was too far away I would def do a travel squad for a few select games.

I call the plays and I am up top so I tell the guy on the sideline (OL coach) who relays the plays what to call. I also help spot for the DC, Down and Dist, fav play base don scouting, tendancy etc..

What my area does is shuttle the JV teams. So we play on thursdays at 4 "necessary personell" goes over on the first bus with coaches and one coach stays back with the second group. The bus drops off the first group and then comes back and gets the 2nd group. You could alawyas have coaches with trucks to drive all the equipment over to make more room.
Also we have though about having a travel squad, so maybe you dress 70 for home games but only 45 for away? I think you would have to be a pretty strong program for people to buy into that especially parents.
