You need to email Scott Burton at Richmond University. I have seen him at 2 clinics and he is awesome. We are totally adapting his system to our scheme. I have all his stuff but he uses a pod sytems so there is a formation pod, motion pod, and play pod so they sky is the limit. It all fits on a one window wristband and is easy to read. I would be happy to share it with you and so woudl he. TImothy_Cullen@hcpss.org

When we were a multiple I team we called the formation in two parts 1. Backfield : I, Brown (Offset Right), Black (Offset left) or split. 2. Then we would call the rest of the formation
I Slot Right for example.
I do remember years back hearing a guy from California talk at a clinic where his formations were all 2 digit numbers the first digit was how the leftside lined up and the second digit was the right side
Eample: 1= TE and flanke 2= SE
12 would =pro left
I cannot remeber if he had seperate calls for the backfield or if they were incoorporated intot he numbers.
Know we are shotgun spread so our kids just have to remeber the formations we have 9 of them
Doubles= 2x2 run and shoot Teds= 2x2 2 TE's and 2 flankers Ace= 2x2 i te flanker and 1se slot Trips Trey Panther: Trips Empty Ohio= Trey Empty Slot CLuster or Bunch

Our play call order is Motion/Shift Formation Play Tag
Everything is words no numbers, I feel it is less thinking for them to here a long play and try to think is the third even number right or left?

In my program if I do not have a player contract and/or code of conduct to let them know what they can and cannot do, my administration will not support any disciplinary actions by me. Also even with the Code in place the principal has made a school rule that he is the only one who can throw someone off the team after cuts have been made, I am only allowed to suspend. Very frustrating!

The best and worst thign about being a HSHC is the administration you have to work with. If you have a good (supportive and realistic) administration then you just have to coach and manage players and coaches. If you have a bad administration (Let parents be heard and have too much input) then your life will be so stressful you will find yourself asking, is it worth it? Or should I resign or wait out the lack of support.

Guys
I contacted a small (1AA) coach to talk about his spread offense and see what he did. I was going to buy his DVD pack and I asked if he woudl sit down with me seperately to discuss some things that were particular to my scheme. He wanted to charge me $75 per hour plus travel, lodging, and food. Have you ever heard this? He told me because the Glazier clinics pay him that, he felt he had to charge me that? Make any sense? Anyone here of this?

I saw him speak at the Glazier Clinic in Baltimore and he was excelent. He is the OC at North East Mississippi CC and runs the shotgun no huddle spread. Has anyone ever sat down with him or know anything about him and his system?

I was an assistant on staff for 10 years and I just finished my first year as head coach so they know and trust me a lot. I basically want to get them excited about football and really try to pull in the kids that didnt play this year but always "think about it" Just somethign so they know we are expecting big things from them this year.

Hey guys I will be having my first pre season meeting with my team in January. Just finsihed my first year with the program and we did ok but have alot of room for improvement. Just looking for ideas as something "Crazy" or out of the ordinary to get everyones attention and perhaps everyone involved so they know they are a part of the team and also know they just arent along for the ride. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well said everyone, I think you guys are right on with treating the duds and studs the same because when it comes down it it the stud is a dud when he does his own thing, he has to be a stud all the time not just when its convinent

See I think if you sit the studs that dont lift which in all honesty we are only talking about 1 or 2 kids anyway, it is going to lay the ground work for down the road. If you waiver and say well now that summer is over you can play if you do this then the kids will just know in the next years to just skip workouts because eventually they will be starting, they will take the attitude of coach needs me more then I need him. I would rather sacrafice one year and lose with the right mindset kids so that in the future the studs only know one way of doing things and that is through hard work.

I would not say anyof these guys are all countytype players maybe one is but the rest are guys that think they are good enough. My schedule may be tough but I think I can out coach 2 guys a year to be 2-8 with suspect talent rather then be 208 and say if only johnny could play to what he showed us in practice against the 3rd scout team. Our whole school has the attitude of, "Im the best on in my PE class" so I dont need to work hard. Very frustrating but great to hear others are going through it and have taken the tough stance and it has worked out.

So do you think just burying them on the depth chart is enough? Im concerned they could become a cancer but then I guess I would have grounds for dismissal. Has anyone tried a meeting with the lazy ones now in the spring to try to rattle the cage and at the same time give them a heads up and last chance to get on board.

Keep the ideas coming. I still would like to know did you cut the guys or did you just let them ride the pine? Obviouly I cannot cut them now but just make sure there evaluation during 2 a days reflects not up to standard skill.

Thanks coach you and i think very similar. One question for you, did you cut the kids who were slygs or just not play them? One concern when I cut the is the back lash (which I can handle) but also keeping them on the time leaves the potential for them becoming a cancer.

I hear ya, I have already purchased a top 10 board and we post it in the hallway outside of the gym for the whole student body to see. It seems with some kids they just would rather be lazy. I will be cutting this year which will put me through some long conferences on why a returning starter got cut.

Coaches,
We are right smack in the middle of our spring weight lifting and conditioning. We do not have spring ball here. I have 15-20 returning players that are not in a sport but are skipping work outs and or have horrible attitudes in school including in my class. I want to have an "intervention" with just the 15-20 kids and basically call them out on what they are doing. We have a losing tradition at this school and going into my 2nd year as HC I want to put a stop to it. My thought is to basically say to them, you guys cry and get upset after we lose and wonder why us? But the answer is right in front of you, you cut corners so you end up coming up short in the long run. I basically want to give them a get on board or get the hell out speech because i feel they are holding people back that may be considering playing for the first time but see returners not working out, why should they? Let me know any thoughts you may have on this or better ideas to get the same thing accomplished.

Hey guys. I got some good info on the A-11 formation/offense. I am looking for what you guys do for a crazy formation? We are a shotgun spread team so anything we can incoorporate to better netrulize our size disadvantage will help.
