Hey guys I am in a small school and football has been down for a while. This was my first year as head coach and while we made some strides we did not have as much success partly due to the lack of athletes. My school is chock full of talent but they have been convinced by the wrestling, baseball, basketball, or lacrosse coach to only play that sport. This kills the football talent. I have talked to them a bit and they give me the standard "Id never tell a kid not to play" which I dont doubt but I can see them not encouarging a kid to play who is a great athlete. I think the main reason the kids do not play is because football is the only program in the school with off season weight trianing, the rest of the sports either do nothign or just play in rec leagues. Any help would be appreciated.

has anyone had any success or even tried to implent an Athletic Department wide Wieght trainign and conditioning program? Tat way whether in class or afterschool the player is either doing the in season or out of season workout. The AD I assume would be very helpful in this and all the other coaches have to buy in and hold their kids accountable to it in order to make it work. Our basketball coach currently averages 3 wins a year but will discourage his kids from playign any other sports, they are the most talented kids in the school, but the weakest, wrost condtioned and least disciplined, his starting 5 could easily start for me on the football field.

Thast good stuff we have also used NBA teams and NFL teams for live and dummy. I also tag stuff with "Lock IT" when I dont want him to audible. Good thing you didnt lock that one on 4th and 12.

We are a spread team that takes advantage of uncovered receivers from time to time. Each year we change the way we audible. Before we gave everyone a nickname and then a series of numbers where one number was the route they run, this year we just ran bubble if uncovered in trips and a turn and catch if uncovered in 2 x 2. This way we did not have to call the route we just made an alert call to tell everyone we were audibling. How do you guys do it at the LOS?

Guys
I have heard several different ways of signialling in the plays for a no huddle system. THe one I like most is hand signalling in the formation and any motion or shift, then when they get lined up use a board to signal the wristband play in. I have heard of flip boards where you give the players a color and corresponding number that would appear on the wrist band. I am trying to hear as many other ways of how everyone does this and also to find a board that will accomplish this.
Thanks

We beat a team that had dominated our county and state for years, we had not beaten them in 12 years and only a handful of times in the 25 year school history. We were down by 21 at the half and 18 to start the 4th quarter. At the start of the 2nd quarter netiher team punted the rest of the game, mostly due to scores but some TOD. We forced a fumble with 4 min left in the game and down 7 points at the 50 yard line. We drove the 50 yards and scored with just over a inute left and knew we could not stop them in OT so down by one we went for 2 and walked in. Our runnign back had 30 carries for 312 yards and 5 TD's he was a horse and is playing way below level now at a D3 school but loves it. We won 54-53, highest scoring game in county history and over 1000 combined yards, we started the season 0-6 that year and finished 4-6 we lost 4 games by a combined 17 points. Def a missed opportunity and below average coaching job with a very talented squad.

If you guys are no huddle, how are do you signal in the snap count? Or is it always one and leave it to the QB to change? If so how does he communicate the change?

In my school we are the only athletic program that does anything in weight training or conditioning out of season. I would love to have my athletes lift weights no matter what sport they are in but I do develop an in season workout for my basketball guys to do but they never do it. It gets frustrating at times but it is what it is and does not make it easy to convince a kid to lift when football has been unsuccessful record wise, I just took over last year so its a long road.

I would still love any suggestions on different crazy formations that anyone uses and plays to go with them. I hate to call them gimmicks but they are what they are.

Sorry guys the diagram did not come out right. It should look like on the far left 2 players line up side by side with a player 4 yards behind then in the middle you have the center and two guards. you have 2 qb's/rb's in the A gaps, and out to the right you have to players side by side with another player yards behind him.
Thanks

Guys I saw some article on an offense that I believe a guy in Texas runs very successfully and frustrates the hell out of his opponents. This is the formation.
xx xox xx
If I remeber correctly who was on the LOS changed from time to time based on who was getting the ball and where people were lined up. If you know of this article or anyformations/series of plays crazy like this please let me know. I am looking for whacky formation and series to keep the kids excited and frustrate some opponents coming out of the half or in hurry up situations.

Hey guys we run the shotgun spread offense and the more and more I see clinics that talk about no huddle. I am very curious about moving to an all no huddle offense but need some questions answered first.
1. Most of my kids go both ways, even if we are not hurry up and just no huddle will we be more tired?
2. I had invisioned shifting a lot this year pre-snap, is this still able to be done and leave enough time to change the play if need be?
3. What is the process for signaling plays in? How many live and dummy signalers do I need?
4. Do you use wristbands or signal the entire play in?
5. Do you have a “hold it” or “freeze” signal so you can check the defense from up top or from the sideline to see if the play needs to be changed? Do you have some plays that you need to tag with a “Run It” signal if it is a long play or with shifting to make sure you get it run in time?
6. What type of cadence do you use? Do you still take advantage of uncovered receivers? How do you do this? Just with a verbal audible from the QB?
7. Do you have all the players look at one “hot” coach or does the line look at one guy and all skills another guy?
8. If you use wristbands, do you put every play on the wristband and just signal a number in? Also do you have the ability to change to another wristband play if the defense if giving yo something else, or do you then signal the new play in as opposed to another wristband #?
Any help would be appreciated, we averaged 28 points a game this year and about 50 snaps per game, I really want to increase our plays and possibility for points.

We are a spread team here is our formations: Doubles, Ace, Teds, Trey, Cluster, Trips, Panther, Hurricane, Tebo, Gator, Dayton, Ohio, Casino
We have all the motions and we call them by the receivers letter and where they are going ( H MO, Trace, In, Out, Deep)
For shifts I want to be able to trade the tight end, have a slot shift into the backfield.
I am at the highschool level.

Guys I would like to hear your thoughts and signals for formations, motions and shifts. We will be no huddle and will signal in our formations and motions or shifts. I am making them all up now but would like to hear some ideas on what has been used before.
