coach I would check out the following books that will help you gain alot of ideas on the topic of leadership. These books not only changed my ways of coaching but game me great insight on being a leader in general... Bo's Lasting Lessons- Bo Schembechler The Winners Manual- Jim Tressel Coaching and Control- William Warren Wooden on Leadership- John Wooden (great book for leadership even though its by a basketball coach) I have notes up on my blog coachmac56.blogspot.com of Bo's Lasting Lessons & Coaching and Control. Also I have a leadership manual I have been working on, PM me your email and Ill send it to ya

Any and all of John Maxwell's books are really good. After reading a few of them, the themes and stories begin to run together, but the leadership ideas are great.
Maxwell's "The 17 Qualities of a Team Player," and "The 17 Laws of Teamwork" are great. "Talent is Never Enough" is a great book that focuses on the decisions we make and how those decisions define us as people, coaches, and players.

We use the Team Captain's Leadership manual from Janssen. We tweak it some, but if you're looking for a curriculum, it's a great place to start. www.jeffjanssen.com/

I recently brought in the BFS program BE AN 11 seminar to our school - 3 hour seminar on leadership with a guidebook for success. Good program - following through with monthly meetings. Good stuff.

Jeff Janssen has a lot of stuff on team building, developing leaders, team chemistry -- we have used it in the past and it helped get our program back on track.

For the "Be an 11" presentation, you can negotiate with your local BFS rep. The ones I have worked with were very accommodating. The local reps seem to have the ability to make any deals they can. We did a half day "Be an 11" and half day lifting clinic and think we paid about $450. We set it up to be basically $200 plus $5 per kid attending. We had about 50 kids attend and we charged them $5. This was suggested by the BFS rep. with the idea if you charge them a small amount to attend, it gives them a little more ownership in what is taking place. If it is free and they are made to attend, how at tentative are they really going to be. These were the reps thoughts.
