Rent it out, that is what I do now. Just make sure it covers all or almost all of your mortgage.

Sorry I should have clairified more but as neve rhaving the opportunity to do this I didnt look at the big picture. I assumed the communication would be there between both coaches and I would never attempt to do this with an every down player. I think getting the kicker 2-3 times per week would be plenty it it may force a staff to be more organized and prepared for special teams practice. It has been my experience that ST is kind of a laxed period at times and if you had a time where you know we have to work it now or you cant then everyone would be focuesed.
It just kills me that I had a kid in PE class for 3 years that would ask me to take him out to kick field golas and kick off in the spring he was banging 50-55 yard field goals and a nice high end over end kick into the end zone from kick off with ease. Of course it is differnet with pads on and a rush coming but still was very impressive. The kid wanted to play but would only do it if he could still play soccer.
PS it did not help that his baseball coach was telling him not to play. But thats a whole different thread.

Guys where I am you can only play one sport per season. Way before my time you could play two. For Example we could have a kicker who played soccer as his main sport and kicked on friday nights for the football team. I am not sure the rules on how much playing time you could have from primary sport to secondary sport. But please let me know any experiences you have had with this.
Thanks

First I would suggest going no huddle so you can go up tempo much easier if need be. Second I liek to youse a good screen and draw game in those situations since most times teams will be defending the noraml/deep passes. IRunnign the no huddle an dbeing calm as a play caller is an eternanity.

Thanks guys, just a few extras, the AD is the president of my stetes HS football coaches association and also won 108 games in 23 years, you do the math. The school made the playoffs once and best record ever was 8-3. I was on a team with 2 all americans that played and were very successful at D-1 schools but no playoffs that year. I agree I need to get away and just am so eager to get that next shot. I resigned quitely without blasting anyone, the only thing I did not get was a letter of recomendation, probably because I did not ask for one not because the principal would not give me one. Where I am the principal kind of rules things and sets the philosophy for the athletic programs. They introduce the new HC (my replacement) next week so I have my plants to find out if the AD runs me down while introducing the new coach, if not for me to go to the principal about, to go to my new school with and remeber when we come back and play them next year.

I'm sure it has happened to many and in a much more extreme way but here is my situation, let me know what you think.
Been at a HS since I graduated helping coaching and then full time coaching for 9 of the 12 seasons. In those 12 seasons Head coach that coached me retired and became the AD and his replacement did it for 6 years then retired and I was brought in as the 3rd head coach in the schools 30+years.
I did all the little things pretty much was like we all are: head fundraiser, head coach, asst. coach, etc... you get the idea.
My first year taking over as HC we had not had a winning record in 15 years and it was 15 years earlier before the next one.
I had a kid who was ineligible at the end of the school year heading into my first year. He was allowed to make up some work to raise his grade above the eligible line. He told me he did so, I contacted my AD and said Johnny made up his work can you verify that he is now eligible to play? AD gets back to me yeah he is good to go.
We start the year off 1-3 but the 3 losses are by a combine 15 pts, the week of our week 5 game Johnny's teacher emails me and says , is Johnny going to ever make up that work from over the summer? Long story short Johnny never did it, AD never checked real hard, and we had to forfeit our one win ( a 40 point drubbing) and lose johnny our starting MLB and center.
We had a JV player steal $200 of fund raising materials from us and suspended him from the team, the next week he was flashing the middle finger at the varsity bus as we left for our game, I kicked him off the team, notified parents. Parents complained and AD put him back on the team.
We had team dinner's every Thursday before the Friday game, we have to sign out the cafeteria and the AD was in charge of making sure the table s were all set up. I roll in to help the parents around 5pm and there are no tables to be found. I get a hold of the AD on the phone and he yells at me I'm not the F@$%ing janitor do it yourself.
Then in the off season of my first year I tried to upgrade some small things in the weight room and in the stadium and was always told no because it would require him to fill out a bunch of forms.
Going into my second year as HC I was pretty resigned to the fact that it would be my last but was torn because I really liked the kids. Week 1 we were locked out of our own school at halftime, our kids were harassed and attacked on their way to and from t he school while the D yucked it up on the track watching.
Homecoming we received a delay of game penalty to start the game because the band would not get off the field in time.
Things were set up at this school to where there is clear fear of repercussions for speaking out or up.
I went into the principals office after the last game and respectfully resigned sighting personal reasons. I was wished luck and told if I needed help down the road to come ask. My AD on the other hand after playing for him for 3 years and coaching under/for him for 12 wrote me a one line email saying "thank you for your time the last 2 years."
Extremely long story short I am now interviewing for assistant jobs and did not list my AD or principal as a reference. Apparently when called about me my AD i saying something that is raising red flags with people. It is just amazing that he just wont let me move on and I almost feel handcuffed/blackballed.
Thanks for letting me vent and I would love to hear any thoughts on it or any similar situations.

I hear you. I think sometimes we spend more time worrying about the ones we dont have then praising and coaching up the ones we have. I would not stop recruiting the halls but definately I subscribe to the Show Me dont Tell Me Philosophy.

Guys I just took a new job and the only thing we have is our game DVD's from last season. We do have Proscout Video but it does not allow you to pull video off of a DVD directly. So I need to load it onto a hard drive first. How Do I Get Video from a DVD player onto a hard drive? What equipment/cords/cards do I need? Thanks Timothy_Cullen@hcpss.org

We bought a team set of socks for everyone so the socks wer ento an issue. I did not put a rul eon anything else and really didnt see the need to. The guy before me made a big deal out of it and it made for more kids pushing the envelope. I just told them they have to wear the team socks, and if they have a visor it has to be clear. I dont think it seperates the kids from the team as much as some may think when they have extra wristbands on or something. I agree with the taping if you get taped a certain way for the game you better be getting taped that way everyday before practice. That usually elimenates all the look at me tape jobs.

You could always have like in baseball an indicator where everything after say a pat on the head is live and then a close out signal where anything after that is dummy.

Guys we went to no huddle this year and we use all wristband and the wristband does not change ever. It is a pod system so the WB is broken up into 9 pods and it all fits into a one windo WB. They just get taught the order that the play is called in first the formation pod, then the motion pod, then the play pod. The play pods are color coated to distinguish snap count. With the WB being broken into pods it makes it really easy to combine any formation with or with out motion with any type of play, instead of having to pre type out all of th eplays. Now on my call sheet I have the play typed out with the WB code next to it. Let me know if you want any info on it. Timothy_Cullen@hcpss.org

I agree zone is the easiest to pick up but I think the hardest to perfect. We have been spread gun for 3 years and zone blocking sometimes the O-line think too much.

We have done them in the past and I think they can be effective in the right situation. I was honest witht he player and told him what he did well, what I think he needs to do to keep or earn a job. I also talk about off season weight room commitments and other sports to play (track). They were not very effective in my case bec ause football is not first or even second priority for my kids at this school and the admin does not allow things to be made "mandatory" or me to stay on kids to play. So they get pulled from the easy sports (basketball and baseball) and usually do nothing all off season which is why i have removed myself from that awful situtaion.

Guys
We seemt o be very lacadasical in practice and in the past two scrimmages and I think it is because of the way we practice and warm up for games. What do you all do to get your kids intense and nuts before the game? We did a great tackling drill yesterday that I am considering doing before the game. It seemed to carry the intensity through practice.
Any ideas I wielcome.

Guys we are going no huddle this year for the first time exclusively. How do you all practice from start to finish? A sample practice plan would be great. I am looking for the ideal situation to get the most done fundamentals and plays. Traditionally we have always started with position drills then some sort of group then some sort of team. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Guys we are upgrading our porta phone system this season and I have a set of 7 that work good just have a little bit of interference with them, but all in all work fine. THey may need to be refurbished as I did not send them back this year because I knew we were gettign new ones. I actually bought these 6 years ago with my own money so I am looking for you to just make me an offer that is fair and well go from there. I have pictures available upon request. The set includes a Head Coach set, Press box O, Press box D, and 2 Sideline O and 2 Sideline D sets, they each come with a set of headphones some are 2 ear some are on ear.

Guys
We will be making cuts for the first time this year and some players that have been on the team in the past will most likely be cut. I need to be able to document why they get cut. Does anyone use or know of an evaluation form to use. I am basically looking for grading the players skills as it relates to the position they are trying out for and then having a section dealing with coachability so some of the lesser gifted atheltes that are great team guys can make the team too. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok now that I have your attention, I have a 1600 pound O-Line, the only catch is that it is divided between 9 guys not 5.
I am wondering what you guys do to make your O-Line feel special and important. I have an O-Line this year that fundamentally can do it and will be strong enough to do it but lacks the confidence to get it done consistantly because everyone they go against will be much bigger. We are a spread team with a base zone run game so we are not 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
Any motivation you do for O-Line only or any advice on how to make the best of the smallest O-line probably in the state but still get results.
We are talented enough to win 6 or 7 games and I dont want the O-Line to be the reason we get held back.
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Yes I deal with it all the time I get a 100% cover 3 team that morphs into a Cover 2 man team in 7 on 7. I use it aginst them I shift, motion and run crossing routes until the cows come home. Just look at what they are doing and figure out how to hurt them. It is usually much easier to find a tweak to a play you have on offense to hurt them. Either stretch them vertically with crossing routes or horizontally with vertical routes, another good one is runnign play action, you would be amazed how many teams (including us) bite on play action in 7 on 7
