Coaches,
The AD put me in charge of researching a solution for our team boxes on the sideline always being muddy and/or void of grass. I have seen some that are concrete with turf on them. Is this the way to go or does someone have a better idea? Thanks guys.

We purchased one of those mats (maybe not the one posted above) and then played a game on a very rainy night. It really didn't end up helping that much. It became nearly as muddy as the field and weighed tons from absorbing all the rain. We never used it again after that season.

We have something that looks like a white plastic woven tightly together that I think they may use in chicken houses or something that works pretty well.

We use the carpet from the link above. Been using it for many years. It is first class and we have never had a problem. The grass on the sideline should never get thinned out if you are using this product, therefore I can't imagine why it would get muddy. We put it down a few hours before game time and roll it up as soon as the game ends. The grass stays healthy and thick all season under the carpet. I suppose if you put it down after the sideline was already muddy or if your Field was muddy it would be a problem. It does get heavier if it is wet. We roll it up and put it up on two benches then cover it with a tarp to keep it dry. I can say that I will find a way to get them if I ever coach anywhere else. It is a first class touch.

We have talked to local Field Turf reps to have it put down in the box. I believe our estimate was around 33.000. Not the most economical but has not been rulled out yet by the admin.

To me that would be a huge misuse of funds by admin. Have them plant soem seed and get it nice and grassy then go with the matt idea. Then have them give you the remaining 32400 to spend on football stuff!

Thanks for the replies guys. I think that my AD is wanting something permanent and not something that he is going to have to set up and take down every week. A team in our league just put the field turf in on their sidelines. I don't know how much they paid for it though.

I have not seen the mats in use, but I would have a hard time believing that it would solve our problem. We dress around 70 guys for a varsity game. Would think that once it started to rain even with the mat it would do some damage. It would be funded through the booster club and outside donation at no cost to the school directly. We just have to get the ok from the AD before we could pursue. We saw it at a school in norther Indiana when we went up to play at 7 on 7 at Notre Dame one summer.
