Not part of Pop Warner either, we get lucky at most of our weight classes we get at least 3 teams sometimes 4 so each team will have about 16-18 kids on each team

I think that if you can or want to great but if you can’t or don’t want to I would worry about it, as long as your sending them kids that a fundamentally sound that they can work with. That is the main thing that both High Schools that the kids from our youth program will go to have said, just give us kids that are fundamentally sound. And they are willing to help if we want to run what either schools runs on O or D

I took last year off from coaching but the year before we had 5 coaches and 4 out of 5 us had kids on the team. For us it work out well, of course we all had our jobs(responsibilities)
2 out of the 4 us that had kids on the team where not "Daddy Coaches"
I wouldn't say that Daddy coaches rule the league that I coach in but, they are out there for sure! We get a lot of HC that don't have kids on the team.

Nfl Network has an AFC playbook and NFC playbook series during the season......I haven't had the opportunity to watch it that much this year but it is pretty close to what NFL match up does..... One thing though....I am not sure if you have any actual game cuts (NFL/college), but you can always look for big plays in those games and see what worked in the scheme and what broke down. You can gain a tremendous amount of knowledge from that point of view. But...it is also nice to sit down early sunday morning with a cup of coffee when the wife and kids are in bed and just relax to some good entertainment! If you don't have kids yet, you'll know what I mean one day..... Yes, I love AFC and NFC playbook on NFL network! And I know what you mean getting up early Sunday morning while the wife and kids are sleep with a cup of coffee...

Yes, I agree also 100%. I hate seeing coaches that look unprofessional during games. At practice it doesn't matter to me.
In our league at pracitce we wear short and T-shirts in the summer pants in the winter. Our league also gives us 1 new polo shirt at the start of each season. Many of also have other shirt and pullover, pants with our team colors and logo for either coaching at the HS or from parent gift at the end of the season. So during games we all match or at least have on team colors.

We go to 3 days a week once school starts for 2 hours. But on Fridday's we do cut practice short 1.5 hours, and it really just a walk-thru for saturdays game.

mhcoach,
I like how you use your Defensive Call Sheet where it's more of a ready list! That is more along the lines of how I will create my call sheet.

Great Advice Headtrip....
One of local HS has hosted and youth clinc for the last 4 years. And they don't dictated what we should or shouldn't run, they just give us ideas and suggestion as far as drills & what to do at pracitce. The other local HS held a clinc also this year as well. Some of our youth coach are very receptive to the High Schools and some are not. Already some of the assistance coaches from either one of the High Schools already help coach some of the youth teams. This is what has worked for us.

Our freshman and JV ran the same O and D that Varsity did. Our most of us on the varsity staff also coach the JV team & JV practice with Varsity. Our youth program doesn't run the same stuff that the HS does. Well In some cases some of the teams might run what one of our local HS run some of the youth team might just run a sprinkle, it just depends on the coach. The hard part is our youth program feeds into 2 high schools, really 3 high schools.

His duties just consist of making sure we are organized thursday nights, Of course he is the one to talk to the refs before and during the games and keeps us other coaches in line Especially our OC who like to run up the score. That is really all he does!

Yes, JV should run what Varsity does! For us our freshmen team run the same O and D as well. On JV we do some things a little different but nothing other than some little changes and they are still with in the system. And really most of our changes came on the D side of the ball.

Just wondering who makes up your Jv staff? Do you have a coaching staff that just coaches JV or Do your Varsity asst. coach your Jv team.
For us JV team practices with Varsity, and some of us Varsity Asst coach the JV team.

I would say yes and no! We are a spread team that runs Jet and have some QB runs as well. The only change we have for our wildcart is we put our WR/DB in a QB and just run the ball more.

My wife has been very supportive of me coaching! I started coaching my son's youth team 6 years ago and this year I still coached his team and at the High School doing Varsity and JV. She not a big football fan but is and wants to learn more and more about the game. She came to a few Varsity games, a few JV games and most of our sons games. She let me vent to her we we lost, but she didnt like it when all 3 team lost, because then I was in a bad mood most of the day on saturday.

This is week one for us! We lost to a very good team 20-0. Part of the problem is that we came out flat in the 1st half! We played better the 2nd half, kept them out of the end zone! I'm still Frustrated about the loss this afternoon.
