We had are 2nd preseason game this past weekend and won 14-12. We play a lot better this go around. But we did have 7 holding calls, and most of them came when we had a big run or got a much need first down. The regular season start this coming Saturday again the team that won the championship last year!

Had our first preseason this past Saturday, and we go the breaks beat off of us 42-0! But, we did much better in the 2nd half, only allow one TD at very end of the game. We did have a lot of positive in the game, and things that we can build on. We had a few turnover early that hurt us and then some mental mistake on defense as well. We have our 2nd preseason game this coming Saturday!

Thanks for all the responses coaches! I sent out a short and to the point email yesterday morning to kill this real quick! Not one parent reply back. At the age group(14-16)that I am at coaching these kid already know what position they are at this point for the most part! Funny thing is most of the parent don't come and watch practice and I sure that most don't know which two are the coaches kids. Has the HC I don't have a kid on the team.
Thanks again,
Coach Smith

Here is an email I got from my team mom this morning!
"Parents are getting upset over the "good old boy" treatment. Meaning the coaches kids getting positions they can't do and in some caeses the kid doesn't want to do. I think a kid should be asked what position they want and then try out for it. Kids tend to try harder for what they want. Unfortunately, if you ask them on the spot in front of their parents, they won't say what they want. To make things simple, if a kid doesn't do the position well, find a new kid for the position. Thought I'd bring that to your attention before you start losing players."
The funny thing is out of us 5 coaches only two of us have kids on the team. One the coaches kids, plays C and LB the other does play QB and has played it for the last 4 years and right now we don't have another QB which does concern me!! Also out of the 18 kids on the team we have 8 rookies, and out of those 7 only two of them I am not worried about...the other well need a lot of work. And of the 18 we only have 4 skill players and I'm not counting my QB

With two practice now in the books! We don't look that bad. Was sure what to expect since I really didn't know any of the kids at all. But, we could use a few more kids for add depth and experience for sure.

Some pads, at least. Got new rules from the powers that be that say all players must spend their first three days in shoulder pads and helmets before putting on full pads as a heat acclimation measure. First day we can go in full pads is still the 29th (2 weeks away) but they backed up the dates we can go out in shells to next Monday, but regardless of when a player starts he has to go the first 3 days in shells. We've been having great turnout for summer workouts and most of my guys should get it out of the way next week. Gonna switch the routine up a little bit and hit the workout first, then put gear on and do our form/speed/agility stuff, then finish up with real football things in real football gear. Here we go. We have always done something similar.....the first week we go helmets the first two days, then helmets and shoulder pads the next two days, then full gear on Friday. We start our practice on Aug. 5th. Sometime it is determined by the heat as well.

Find a lot where the grass has already been destroyed. i really just cant believe that they believe football is harder on grass then soccer...and id love to see stats that prove it. We use to have that issue with soccer more than a few years ago now with one of our fields

I have been with coaches who have drafted a kid because he has best looking mom, but not for the reason that coach is saying why. Its been where it's the 16th or 17th pick and trying to decided between Little Johnny and Little Jimmy and they are both equally not talented, so the pick come down to who has the hottest mom! Sad but true. With that being said, that really has only happens at are lower weight(younger kids) classes not at are upper(older kids) weight classes

Buy a case of beer and get together just to talk about the game. You can find out who knows their stuff this way and reconvene after you decide where to fit everyone. In the past I have done this and could figure out pretty quickly who was a coach and who was a father that just wanted to help out. Finding key assistants at that level is always the hard part. That is a great idea in the situation that I'm in. I think that I will do that for the first meeting. Thanks coach

Thanks again coach for the break down. With this being a new staff I need to still give out responsibilities. I'm the HC and will be the DC also. But need to figure out who will be my OC and who will handle special teams.

well here is our first coaches meeting agenda. we have 2 new coaches and 3 of us who have coached together at different schools. I am the DC but i typically run the meetings, my head coach is a layed back kind of guy..i like order and structure so the agenda is set that way. 1) Introduce everyone 2) Discuss Expectations of a coach 3) Discuss Team Rules (adjust if needed) 4) Discuss practice Times 5) Discuss Roles and Responsibilities of each position coach for Practice 6) OC will Present the Offense 7) DC will Present the Defense 8) SC will Present the Special Teams Plan then its beer time Thanks coach! That helps a lot.

How many of you have off season coaches meeting? And how many do you have during the off season? Long story short I went from being the DC for one of our 95lb A team to being the OC for one of our 110lb A teams , and now my final resting place is HC for our 150lb team.
I have put together a new staff for this coming season and know that I need to have at least one meeting to make sure we are all on the same page.
Thanks

Team Offense of Monday practice is divided into 2 10 and 20 minute segments. The ten minute segment is running plays on air, subbing every play at an uptempo speed. the second 20 minute practice is lining up, walking through plays, fit and freeze. all about refining. Team D likewise consists of 10 mins of form tackling and 10 minutes of aligning to formations. On Wednesday the team drills are just scrimmaging vs our own guys mental reps one day and physical reps one day. Also i cant stress it enough. WORK ON THE PASSING GAME. You want to run the ball well first obviously but it can be a huge X factor if you can throw and you can protect. Those teams will beat teams that cant throw every time. Thanks Coach

I not what my organizations process is but we do have a coaches selection committee. I do know that some of the factors are wins/losses, how long have you been a HC, How long have you been coaching, Also what coaches do you already have helping you.
