Here is the situation I’m in! Right now I’m the Asst DB coach on Varsity and there is also another Asst DB coach along with the DB coach. Now we all do work well together, but I’m feeling that 3’s a crowd. So I’m considering going down to freshmen to coach DB’s and RB’s and feel like I’m contributing a lot more. Also It’s not a big deal for me to move down to freshman ball either. I would like to know what you guys would do or think I should do?
Thanks

I am a long time varsity coach who moved down to take over the Frosh. There is good and bad. The good, you can really set a good foundation to kids who are moldable. The bad, you will no longer be part of the varsity program, unless you have strong friendships and they will soon forget that you were at there level once upon a time.

in order to put the necessary time and effort into coaching it MUST be enjoyable. i would have to agree with bud-move down and continue to enjoy what you do!!

why not talk to the HC and see if you can coach something else?

If you are just in it because you enjoy coaching, then I would say drop down, but if you have aspirations of doing bigger and better things (head coach etc) then moving down is a step in the wrong direction.
I like the idea of asking for a transfer to another position.
I loved the freedom of coaching at the frosh level but it would be shortsighted to move down and not think it is not a step down.
