Best of luck aztec, hope things get better for you and your team soon. These kids are going to be looking for someone to reasure them that the world is still a good place. If you can coach your kids on the game of life as well you get them coached up on the field, things should be back to normal soon.

We are a dbl wing team, and so is our middle school. Last season, we took 1/2 a day of practice and walked down to the middle schools practice with our varsity guys. The middle school coaching staff was new but still wanted to run our system so we let them watch how we ran our base 3 plays with the varsity. Then, it was the middle school kids turn to try it. Each kid had a varsity player behind him individually coaching them up on there position. The little guys absolutely loved it!!(nothing like having the high school hero's show you the ropes) I believe we benefited in many ways by doing this. First of all, the middle school ran their plays better ;D. After getting smoked in their first game, they went on to win the rest of their games. The varsity guys got to feel realy important. We told them, this was a way for them to leave their mark on the futer of the system. Its amazing how many more middle school kids showed up on Friday nites after getting to work with our guys. We've learned a little of your time can go a long way. Anything that gets middle school kids watching and thinking more about football is a big plus.

I was always under the impression that the Wing-T was a good offense for a less talented team, especially on the oline. Seems like all the double teams and misdirection would be to your advantage. You mentioned your oline will be less athletic next season. I just keep invisioning your un-athletic oline getting blitzed to death in the spread. But on the other hand, if you can run the ball effectively out of it that would definitely help matters. I like the idea of getting the ball to your best players in space as well.
I do know this....One of the Wing-T teams in our league added the "Rocket sweep" to their offense and that play has given many teams fits all year! Definitely much scarier than the buck sweep in my opinion.
Good luck with your situation coach, let us know how things turn out.

When you get your ast. coaches evaluation sheet that goes to the AD at the end of the season, and you see the HC's comments said....."Coach (my name) puts in a ton of time watching video and preparing each week. He has done an outstanding job with our transition to this years new defense, and should be brought back on staff next year at all cost. Im my opinion, he's the best defensive cord in our conference."
That might just be the nicest thing anybody has ever said to me! Blew my doors off, and just about brought a tear to my eye!

I don't think I have ever seen one of those run n shoot teams throw a WR screen. Seen it a lot in college but not in the pro's.
Todays spread systems have them at all levels. The Rams really opened the door for that play
Wonder why it took so long for the WR screen to catch on in the pro's?

10 road wins in a row, wow! Giants may not be the most glamorous team to make it to the Bowl, but you can't say they didn't earn it.
Regular season wins mean didlly, its all about momentum in the playoffs.

We've always picked our capt's as a staff. The coaches should know who best fits the mold in my opinion. In most cases the kid has already earned the spot the year before by his actions. Personly, I don't like to make a big deal out of it because it's somewhat of an individual issue that can steal focus from the "team".

We are 6-0 but have yet to play a state playoff type team.......that is until tonight! Our offense should move the ball, but defensively we will be challenged. Their GIANT WR's vs our fast, hard hitting, yet VERY short corners. I think I might just.....Hurrrmmmppphhh... ... ...

Had to defend this set last season. The Rocket sweep gave us fits. I'de say the Rocket is a must out of this set. Another play that was a good compliment off the Rocket look was the Rocket intercept reverse. Rocket motion, Qb tosses like normal but the playside wing "intercepts" the pitch comming back on the reverse.

We are a double wing team. We just ran all over the 5th ranked team in the state and ended up winning a game that we were picked to get smoked. The score was 14-6, and we never threw the ball all game.
An irate parent leaving the game was heard saying...."The only reason they won was because they run that stupid offense where you never pass the ball. Thats B*** S***, it should be illegal!!!"

Last season our QB completely lost his voice two days before the last game of the season against our biggest rival. We had not beat this team in six years so as you could imagine, it was already a little bit tense!
Most teams may just put in the back up and go from there, but with the back up kid we had, this just wasn't even an option. Only other solution.......have the FB call the cadence......so we did. We are a double wing team so our FB is up tight behind the QB making this possible. Needless to say it worked! No problems at all, timing was just fine. We went on to win that night even though our two starting wings, and TE were all out injured, not to mention the QB situation.
When it comes to battling adversity, this game would definitely be at the top of my chart. Just when you think nothing else can go wrong, it does, yet you find a way to beat the odds just the same. This is the kind of stuff that makes me love coaching this game!

The college All-Stars seemed to have a better chance of whipping an NFL team. The series started back in the 30's and went thru the mid 70's. After the Superbowl came into existence, the winner of the superbowl would take on the college All-Stars before the start of the nfl reg. season. Over the years the all-stars won 9 games and tied two, with the nfl teams winning the rest of 42-43 meetings. The last all-star team to win was in 1963, I think and featured, Gale Sayers, Butkus, Roger Staubach, etc.., the last two matches put the college all-stars vs the Pittsburg Steelers, during their dynasty years in the mid 70's and were not much of a contest! The all-stars did manage to defeat one of Lombardi's early(pre-superbowl) Packer teams, which had to be quite an accomplishment? Definitely wouldn't want to be a "Packer" after that loss, lol! And oh yeah, I did get a lot of this info off google but remember watching many of these games as a kid thru my early 20's, lol! Wow, very interesting! So we're not just talking about a scrub NFL team taking on a College team, these were Super Bowl teams! HHHMMM, kinda makes you think

This question came up at work the other day.
Could a great College team ever beat a bad NFL team?
What do you think? Why/Why not?

Believe it or not.........Dblwng teams can get work out of 7 on 7 as well. A few years back we were in the top three at the team camp we attended. (it definitely helped having a kid that went on to play D1 that year) Lots of middle cross and NCAA route stuff

Just to add to the rest of these great posts.
Take advantage of your youthfull energy. Be excited when they achieve a goal, let em know about it. If they do something wrong in practice let them know about that as well, but back it up with something they did good at the same time. Exp- " You took a great angle and made a great hit, but next time try to keep your feet moving on contact so you can redirect the ball carrier"
Let them know your as happy to be there coaching as they are to be there playing. Everything else will fall into place with time.

What if a defense stays with the same pre-snap look every time, then rolls into the desired coverage at the snap?
Has this ever given anyone trouble? We tried to do it in the playoffs, but were just out athleted all around, hard to tell if our game plan was sound or not.
