I have been to the clinics the last 6 years and I always have a great time. I have always taken something away from them.

I have a hard time thinking that 1000 students is a large school, because in Oregon if you had 1000 students you would be 5A on the bubble of going 4a and we have 6 classifications. I know Oregon has less population then most other states so they have to have bigger schools.

I went as a player and my father was the coach! I would love to get back over there again, it was beautiful and I had a lot of fun on the trip!

I was hird on an emergencey license and worked on my credentials while teaching weight training! California is tough, but it is way easier then the state of Oregon. I taught and coached at the College level for 2.5 years and wanted to move down to a local high school and the state of Oregon's Licensure Board (TSPC) told me I would need to go get another masters degree that would also give me my teaching credential.
I went through University of Phoenix Online! It was the fastest and Cheapest at the time. I haven't looked lately but it would be worth while to check all options. Also take your PE Praxis as soon as possible! Here in Oregon you have to take and pass all 3 PE Praxis test.

I did not see it but it sounds like the Starburst or Club of Death return!
We installed that a few years ago for a team that was just ten times faster then us and we needed an edge to get a good return or field position!

I am feeling the Blues of football, but I get to see all the FB players that are not playing B-Ball or Wrestling 2 times a week along with other Fall and Spring sport athletes in our Speed and Agility workouts. It helps a little on my mind from not going crazy, especially now when I am jacked up for a few clinics!

My only advice for you is stay strong with the Union!
In April of this year my districts union held a meeting and we had a stand up vote for a strike and we have around 500 members and it was about 450 - 50 in favor of the strike! With a large number voting for the strike the union took the numbers to the school board and super, they ended up coming to an agreement in the matter of 2 days on our contract. The district has no chance if the union sticks together. Fo some research on education unions and the success rate of voting for strikes and actually striking, it is amazing how many times the district will give in and make a deal.
Again, stay strong with the Union!!!

I received mine through University of Phoenix and it took me 19 months and I did it as slow as you can. I took one class at a time and I took a 4 week break because I was getting burnt out.
I thought the classes were easy it was just all the busy work they kept giving us to do, on top of teaching my own classes and coaching 2 sports, having a family and a life.
I did it and am glad to be done with it. If you take 2 classes at a time you can probably finish in 1 calender year.

Why can't every conference have a championship game? All Conference Champions make a playoff bracket! All they would have to do is cut one non-conference game early on!
I truly believe that TCU, Boise, and Cincy have something that other big time schools don't. They know how to win, and they deserve a chance.
Oregon States Baseball team never would have won the College World Series if they weren't given a chance in a playoff scenario.
All deserving teams should have a chance!
Just my opinion.

Pitts only answer for Cincy's offense was Cincy's QB throwing INT's!
I really like Cincy's chances in a BCS game!

Oregon has 9 weeks of Regular Season and all teams have the option of playing a zero week Endowment game. Then there are 5 weeks of Playoffs! All is said and done on Dec. 12th!!!

I know a lot of the areas coaches and it don't matter black or white as far as who gameplans better. johnknight's statement is more true in my area, the fat guy's do less work towards gameplanning and trying to become better coaches. Our O-Line coach still coaches like it is 1985 and the program wasn't good back then. He thinks the clinics are a waste of time. Because he played D1 ball in the early 80's he thinks that visiting college coaches is a waste of time as well. I know at least three other o-line or D-line guys that are like this in my area.

I have been in the process of trying to sell it to my school for 4 years now.
Year 1 - I got in the weight room and started getting football players in the weight room, but in regular weight training classes.
year 2 - Got 70% of 10-12 grade football kids in the weight room but still in regular weight training classes.
Year 3 - New Principal and he gave me 2 Frosh Athletic Classes, 2 10-12 Athletic Classes, 1 10-12 Female Athletic Class, and 1 regular weight training class. Athletes now could be held to a higher standard.
(Baseball was the only boys sport to win a league game in three years and they only won 1)
Year 4 - 2 Frosh Athletic Classes, 2 10-12 Coed Athletic Classes, 2 regular weight training classes. (Football Team looking to make playoffs)
It is an uphill battle that must be fought and I found that the parents have so much more pull in our school then any one teacher does. Sad but true! Sell the parents on the prevention of injury and the maximizing their kids ability to play sports.

Teams positions program building articles emphasize the off-season career advice (How to prepare for an interview and what to bring)

We have 8% of the male population out for football. I wish we had 10%! That is our goal is to have the right 10 - 12% of the boys come out for football. We currently have 97 kids in the program 9-12 with 3 levels of competition (Fr./JV/Varsity)
10-12% would mean 110-132 kids 9th-12th grade for us!

Our Kids jog from one corner of our endzone to the 40 and then back around and a coach counts off by 8's. We will have 8 lines of 7 or 8 on the Goalline. We do walking lunges, hi knees, chicken wings, hi knee crossover, quick feet carioca, toe touches, get offs. As we do get offs we tell the kids 5 yard spacing, and then odd lines over to even for necks and then back to their lines for jumping jacks and a chant and then into D indy.

Who do the kids trust? Who does the staff trust?
I would grade them everyday of camp and give them equal reps and let the kids battle it out.
Give each of them the same number of R/P plays. Grade everyday and post the results and there should be great competition and whomever wins is the best.

Sense we still have 2.5 weeks until our first game I would have him do a little extra conditioning after practice until that first game and tell him he is on a 1 strike and your out contract. The police knows he is a FB player and that reflects on the staff and the school. The fact that he did contact the coach is a mature choice (Right Choice) and that is why he would not sit out any games for me.
Every young man will screw up, it is how they react and learn from it that makes them a man!

I would definitely approach the issue, but like you said can be a touchy one!
I would phrase it as a question to the head coach. Ask the HC if he feels at all that the OL is being less successful then it could if someone was to chalk up the OL on the sideline.
Only bring this up if you are willing to be part of the solution.
If the HC doesn't feel it is a problem then you brush it under the rug and walk away.

I used to use a couple of different grading methods, but it can get time consuming, so I have tried to main stream it a little.
I do like the idea of grading with the kids and have them fill out the page and then write down my grade in one column.
I grade with a 0 or a 1, with one question (Were you a factor in the play or not?)
If you do your alignment, assignment, technique, and gave effort, you are a factor in our team being successful that play!
I have been known to give a 2 now and again for things above and beyond ex: Linemen pancakes DL and gets a 2nd pancake on a LB.
I like this method because we preach to our WR and OL that they need to be down field blocking every play regardless of run/pass
BE a FACTOR!!!

I have worked uner the block schedule for three years now and have had great results even though I only saw the kids twice every other week. I did full body workouts everyday. Mon/Tue were heavy everything and then Wed/Thur was more of a dynamic workout. Friday I used as a functional and strong man training day with a little review of one of the Olympic lifts. I always did a dynamic warm-up and then did either agility drills or speed drills before going in the weight room.
Fall 07' Varsity football team had 4 kids that could Power Clean 200 or more! As of yesterday (max week this week) we had 13 Freshman Cleaning 200 or more) Using Block Scheduling.
Hope this helps!

Looks good coach, the one thing I might add is a link that will show case your players numbers in the weight room. Our parents have raved about seeing how their son compares to others in the weight room.
