Guys,
My DC and I were talking today and re-hashing some of the best excuses we have heard for missing practice and/or off-season weight lifting over our past 4 years together at our current school. We were listing them and almost fell over laughing with some of the lame/funny excuses the kids have......so.........feel free to list some of the top random excuses you have heard (not "I have to go to the doctor, but something that is off the wall obscure) My list is.......... 5. I have to go get ashes for ash Wednesday at 4pm 4. I had a cavity filled and my tooth is sore 3. I have to go shopping for new school clothes before school begins 2. I have to get my haircut and this is the only time my barber can get me in and the BEST one of all time is....... 1. I had to visit my grandma in the Institute.....to which I asked "what institute?" and the player responded..."The mental institute"
Please post your lists...for a good hearted laugh!!!!

1.) "I can't be at practice because my dog is having puppies and I need to be there" (The joke for the next 5 years was that the kid was the father of the puppies and thats why he had to be there) 2. "I have to help my dad at his work, he said he has a special project" (Kids dad was an embalmer at a funeral home, god only knows what was going on there) 3. "Someone egged my truck and I had to wash it! That's why I'm late" (Truck might have been worth 85 dollars in the Kelley Blue Book)
This is like that thread earlier in the year, I could give stories like these for DAYS!!!!!

"I couldn't come to practice because my mom is out of town and I had to stay home and watch my sister."
My player was 10yrs. old. His sister was 14. He had a 16 yr. old brother(complete thug). But, apparently, he was the only one that his mother could trust with keeping his sister from going out and getting in trouble, drunk, drugged up, pregnant or, all of the above. So, my 10 yr. old TB and his 7yr. old little brother had to miss practice. Geesh Louise....

not that I have ever done this but my high school coach back in the middle ages(1980s) had a kid give him a lame excuse for not going to practice. he would clean out the kids locker while we would all be sitting around in the locker room. he once cut our leading rusher in the 5th game of the season cause he cut practice.

"We had a gopher loose in the house and I had to catch it."
Thing is, that had to be real. Who could make that up (trust me, not THAT kid.)?

"I am going to miss 7 on 7 tomorrow night because I have workouts for my Cage Fighting class."
Ok I admire those guys, but this kid was 130 pounds and would not hit anyone in pads, let a lone locked in a cage with them.

I was on jv back in high school and my older brother, who was our jv coach, was giving my backup a ton of reps because he wanted me to get more time with the varsity. My backup told him the day before our game that he was suppose to start, "I wont be able to be at the game because i have to go with my dad to buy a pig".... I heard that and I was like hell this guy is gonna get killed lol. I mean he was a farming kid, but I was just like seriously??? LOL

10th grader last year during our Spring practice: "Coach, I won't be at practice tomorrow cause I have a football game".
Blew me away, speechless. Then found out the Kid actually did! He played in a full contact 8-man league in the Spring.

Couple of years ago our left tackle missed a practice. When we asked why he wasn't at practice said because he had to help his neighbor put up a fence. We told him to tell his neighbor that it was football season and he would help him put fences up after the season.
That same season our starting center missed a practice because he had to practice with his rock band. Kid actually thought they were going to make it big.

Had a kid this season, who will be a very solid LBer one day but is offensively challenged. He thinks he's a RB, when in reality, he'd be a great center if he commited to it.
He missed a couple practices early last season because of a back injury. (Not sure how legit that was) but when he came back he said "So...uh...my doctor doesn't think I should play O-Line anymore. That's where I hurt it and it really hurts getting in and out of the stance. He says I'll be fine to play Mike Linebacker though."
I still don't know whether to laugh or be ticked.

Had this happen this season.
"Coach, I wont be at practice for a couple of days, I've got to help my dad bushhog the fields"....and that was after we decided we were going to start the kid for that weeks game. needless to say he didnt see the field too much more after that.
...had another kid say he had to miss practice because he had to pick up his check immediately after school and his ride to work was picking him up right now. 2 hours later when we're coming in for practice he's sitting on the steps STILL waiting for his ride.

Had a senior a couple of years ago come in 2 and a half hours before a game. I was already pretty focused in and in game mode, when the kid came up to me. He was very cautious as he approached and he said "coach, I can't be at the game tonight. There was a death in the family and I need to go." I asked who died and he said "It was my cat." I sort of lost it and said something to the effect of you have to decide whether or not you are able to play, but either way when you go home the cat will still be dead.

I've got a huge list of these: Here are a few:
I had to miss because I went to the doctor and they put me in one of those tube thingys. I had to get blood work done. I had to get a bone marrow transplant. I had hemroids and blood was coming out. I had a bad migraine and blood was coming out of my eyes. I had bruised blood. I had four flat tires and the spare was flat. I had to get a new car brater. I hit a deer and wounded it. I've been looking for it this whole time.
There was a wreck in front of our driveway and we couldn't get out. -You couldn't give us a call. The wreck took out the telephone pole .

We had a player on the JV team who told the HC and I he wouldnt be at the last game of the regular season because he had an appointment to get a tattoo, we hastled him alittle and he said he would try and reschedule we got a note from his parents saying:
"we teach our kids to value their word, when steven makes a commitment he will make sure that he follows through. Steven will not be at the game and he will get his tattoo, Thank you coach"
...at first we didnt know what to say, we held off laughing while he was there and died the second he left.

Last season our opening game was postponed on Friday night due to lightning and re-scheduled for Saturday. One of our players couldn't attend because his mother had his "Sweet Sixteen" birthday party planned! Same kid came up to me this week and had to miss lifting cause mom told him he had to come home and help clean the house right after school.

Had a JV kid miss last game few years ago to play with his band.
One year we had game postponed to Saturday due to weather. Starting lineman skipped because he had tickets to Michigan game.
