We wash it at the end of the season equipment collection but they wash it during the season.
We’ve never had any issues with it.

On a road trip to a play-off game vs. a very good pass happy team, our best DB got caught with a can of chew (I'm a HS HC). Had to kick him off of the team and have the AD pick him up at our walk through. He had 9 pics in 9 games and was a a true LD DB. We lost rather badly. But I'd make the same choice if it happened again. You kicked a kid off because of a can of dip??? Our coaches took us to an out of state passing camp my senior year, and we had to walk through metal detectors at the gates to get in Security didn't know what the hell was going once all of our skoal started setting them off and we just kept pulling cans and rolls of it out.

I’m a Tennessee fan. Bama winning one isn’t anything new and I’d rather not have the bulldogs gloating around too.
Hopefully Pruitt works out for us.

My high school coach played for an SEC team and had a huge issue on just playing players that looked the part.
We had a tall skinny kicker that was lucky if he could make a PAT. One of our linemen could constantly hit from 40 in, and just because he was a fat ass, our coach wouldn't let him kick in games because he didn't look like a kicker.

I like it too. It's fun, the kids love it, and it doesn't show up the other team. It's recognition by the team rather than a player calling attention to himself. Let's not forget that it's a game. It's suppose to be fun so,why not? Not sure it doesn't show up the other team, but I will concede that point. I think it is ALL about individual player attention. But I will again concede that point. I don't like it because it I don't want to have to jump around and get all fired up when down 35-0 and we get a turnover. Tennessee trash can dude. That is just hilarious. Had to carry above his shoulders all game. One kid went to dunk it and missed. Pretty much resembled their season. LOL. Plus, you have to keep one upping each other team and create something new for it to be cool. All that just seems fake to me along with being a pain. We've sucked for near a decade, but no one does a coaching search quite like Tennessee.

Free food I assume... if you can't get a 15-18 year old to show up for free food... they don't care. Nothing you can do Free food and T shirt.

I've had more than a few kids over the years miss practice because their grandma or grandpa died for the 3rd or 4th time. Sometimes dead is better

Just coach and build relationships with your players. Don’t worry what the dumbasses are doing or saying.

Don't sound like there's much there with the seniors either, so might as well lose with kids that want to be there.

I didn't read his comments that way.
We as a profession waste a lot of time on busy work. Mostly so we can say no one is going to our work us and to make it look like we're grinding.
Production and maximizing our time during the week needs to be examined just as much or more than the x's and o's.

I'd take him to finish the season I don't want to pile on another coach... but I'd take Smokey and a copy of "Football for Dummies" to finish the season at this point. I'll give Butch credit. He and his staff can recruit pretty well. Unfortunately, that's about all they can do right. It's like his assistants, especially his DCs, forget how to actually develop talent when they get there. I'm sure that UT will find a way to underwhelm the fans again by not wanting to pay the money it would take to bring a big time coach into Knoxville, though. I saw an estimate that it would cost around $11 million to let Butch & Co. go after the season. Hard to believe we basically had a done deal with a Gruden and Hart and Cheek went on their own and got Butch over control and power concerns.

Wait, I have absolutely discovered the coolest type of football coach ever. The Turnover Troll Coach!! I want to be the guy that gives out the championship belt, or trash can, or gold chain, or hammer to the guy that just got a turnover. What could be cooler than that! I especially want to be that guy when we are down 50-0 and our 1st string DE recovers a bad pitch by their freshman 3rd string qb to their 4th string tailback. I will go NUTZ when that happens! If you can recruit, there might be a job in Knoxville for you soon. Just memorize a bunch of Tony Robbins quotes and you'll be good to go. I'd take him to finish the season

It's a really damn tough situation.
There's no doubt in some communities you'd be fired or ran out of town for allowing any of your players to knee during it and still play them in the game.

It's not only players who make excuses. We had a coach have to leave a summer camp program after receiving a text message from his wife. The coach shared the message with us: "Come home now, I'm ovulating!" Nine months later he was a daddy. Still undefeated

Have an organized practice plan that flows. I'd plan different periods with competitions throughout practice, so they learn how to compete and win plus have a little fun.
Most places that are historically bad have horrible practice structure and waste a lot of time getting nothing done.

Had a kid quit wrestling one year tell me, "Coach, I'm quitting the team so I can get better for next season" I had my center tell me that this year. My response was to ask did he actually know how dumb that sounded.

We were up big on a team. We were playing all of our subs and basically just running straight dives. We had a girl on the team that scored on a 35 yard run right up the middle against their starters.
It made the regional news and they came to our school to do an interview with her since it was the first time a girl had scored in school history. That had to be really damn embarrassing for the other team.

Your credit is going to be screwed regardless, so I wouldn't worry about that. You need to start looking up Dave Ramsey books. I'm not his biggest fan on investing but you're a long ways before worrying about that. I'd say the car needs to go and you need to be talking to the credit card companies about cutting the payments or you're going to default on them. Oh, I really want y car to go, but I'm underwater on the loan. Can't just get rid of it, since I;d immediately owe a ton out of pocket, and be left without transportation to work (no bus, and not within biking distance). You can buy a 500 or 1000 car. It won't be great but you need to get out of that loan, if it's going to make you homeless.

So, not really football-related, and don't like venting my real-life problems, but gonna go at it. Anyone ever have circumstances out of their control hinder their coaching career? I finally found a place that I like recently, but that, and possibly my short-term coaching career, will probably be going away. Due to some bad financial decisions when I was younger, my expenses are too high. My current job doesn't pay enough, and can't seem to find another or a better job. Basically, going to literally run out of money by the end of the month. And the only job that pays even 75% of my expenses has hours that leave me unable to coach. Will probably have to sell everything I own to hold out another month or two, but I expect to be homeless by year's end. I know I can make it through it, but it just sucks to have to fall so low. Who knows what this will do to my long-term relationship as well... I once had a head coach that was homeless, so you never know. But my bills are just too damn high. How much of your debts are you personally tied to after a bankruptcy

The rest of the world? Seriously? Because the rest of the world is so wonderful? Your concerned with what the rest of the world thinks? Give me a break. Tell me where a person of any race has a better opportunity than right here. Tell me where you'd rather live than right here. Well, people of African decent earn on average a better wage in the EU, even in nations that have a lot of bigotry like France, Spain and Italy. I love living here in the US, but I can tell you that the issues America has with racial profiling I have not seen in neither Sweden or Germany where I have lived before. The US is a great nation, but if you can't admit it's flaws it's hard to improve. As football coaches, that is a reality we all face, right? That's a way bigger issue than just racism though. We have our issues but I don't think we're going backwards as a society. Americans of African decent that lives in a two parent household has a lower chance of living in poverty than white Americans.
