This was my day yesterday.
Math teacher - give test, grade test, give out two subjects exam review, make review answer keys, make final exams, copy final exams, make final exam answer key
AD - don't even want to know all I had to do. Parents and spirit packs.
Crime investigator - someone stole one of our golf carts. Watching camera film to find who and when.
Team Mom - went to grocery store to buy gatorades for girls basketball team. My daughter plays. My wife is team mom. I went with her to help.
Football Coach - run through agilities and speed work during strength class
Ref - reffed middle school bball game
Water boy - had fill up cooler with ice and load drinks for girls team
Gate worker - for girls jv game
Basketball coach - coached boys jv game
Bookkeeper - kept book for girls and boys varsity
Dad and fan - watched my daughter and son play in those games
Janitor - helped clean up messes after game and check on dressing rooms
Got to eat around 10pm. Then helped daughter with exam review.
Today, we play 2 hours away. 4 games. Be home around midnight.
All this because I love football. Yep. That doesn't make sense.

Coach, the Admin has got to help you out.
Biggest thing would be not having to teach Math Right? Or at least not a full day.
Thats tough man

I picked up an assignment this year coaching freshmen basketball this winter as our new HC couldn't find anyone else to fill the role. As much as football gets the "grinder" reputation, my hours and my nights are way longer coaching basketball than they were for football...

Yesterday was pretty extraordinary it what all I had to do.
I forgot that I also spent an hour with a d1 recruiter who was looking at a lot of our kids.
Generally, I am not team mom, water boy, ref, bookeeper, nor crime Investigator. Lol. Just one of those days. And it just happened to be busy week of school with exams next week.
Also, I do only have two math classes, so it sounded worse. Didn't mean to imply that I am classroom all day.
I also am super lucky. My wife is PE teacher and assistant AD. Two of kids are there and my oldest son is an assistant football coach. He also keeps the basketball books but he went to see Last Jedi, so I kept books for him.
Pretty cool on Fridays when I coach, and one son is playing, the other coaching, and my daughter is ball girl while my wife is the admin in charge.
They do pay me well and it is a great school and we have some athletes right now. Willing to bet that 90% on this board would trade with me right now.
But man, yesterday was humdinger.

As much as football gets the "grinder" reputation, my hours and my nights are way longer coaching basketball than they were for football... Might be, but no field up keep, sweep floor, and not near as much laundry. What sucks is 2-3 nights of games especially if on the road.

True...we do a ton of varsity girl/boy double headers, which are awesome for our fans. Problem is...that means our freshmen and JV games are always on other nights, lol! I've had two weeks already where I've had games every night except Wednesday and on varsity game days, freshmen and JV practice beforehand.

Lol.. I feel your pain... Here was a typical Friday and Saturday for me during football season:
Friday:
-6am-745am: Get to school, take care of school work (correcting, creating tests, plugging in grades, get the next week's lessons planned, write sub-plans for last two periods, run off and laminate the call sheet for the night's game.
-745am-12pm: Teach.
-12pm: Eat a quick lunch, drive into town to meet the bus.
-1230pm: take off, drive 4-5 hours for an away game. (closest away game was a 4 hour trip).
-530pm-930pm: get our a--es kicked.
-1030pm-330am(Sat morning): drive home, try to catch some sleep.
-4am:Get home, pass out.
-8am: drag my a-- out of bed, drink coffee, eat protein bars, crawl over to the school.
-830am-930am: set up for junior high volleyball games
-930am-1230pm: line judge or take tickets for junior high volleyball games.
-1230pm-130pm: tear down the volleyball games.
-145pm-4pm: catch a quick nap.
-4pm-8pm: pull up our previous night's game on HUDL, grade out players. Take a look at some film of the next week's opponent, start pulling tendencies.
-8pm-10pm: watch cartoons.
-10:01pm: PASS OUT.
I can't even imagine having a family while trying to be an AD and coach. I couldn't do it.

When I was a head coach I did all that. Checked grades, worked on fund raising stuff. Spoke to different organizations in town either for PR or to ask for money. The worst part was making sure we had players lined up to work concessions at home events. What’s hard about that is most of the boys play a winter sport so it was slim pickings.

I have to line up refs, concession workers, ticket takers, someone to run the clock, and someone to do books for every home volleyball and basketball games. It is the absolute WORST part of the AD job. Right now, our 7th and 8th graders are doing concessions because our high school kids are lazy and I can't get anyone on our teaching staff to help out in the other positions. I have parents of basketball players helping us out right now. It works just fine for me but it looks bad for the teaching staff. Especially during a negotiation year.
