I took over at a place that had won one ball game in four years and was a laughing stock.
I just coach them hard and have high expectations. The biggest challenge was changing the culture in the school but we did that by winning.

I'm a spit t coach but it's pretty easy to adapt to our talent.
At small schools you're always going to have some lard ass tackles and small quick backs.

I've only lost it two times were I went over board on them.
One was my first year coaching a team that just had 15 players and they called too many men on the field. I had 4 on the sideline and berated them while I counted my 4 standing there.
The other one called back a game winning interception return because of an inadvertent whistle.

I don't think they're necessary. They're just something you can wave in their face as they're being an ass and on their way out.
Having the support of your administration is the key to handling these situations.

I guess us serving PIE after practice wouldn't be smiled at there.

Don't know that this is the case but I had a problem with coaches who talked about "my (position group)" or "my guys" instead of "we" and "our." Cut them as soon as you get one of those on your staff. They'll always be a cancer and trying to undercut you.

I had a player yesterday in our tackling drill tell another player to get up he was killing the grass.
I told him he has a future in this business

We put a cost to buy the game out if you forfeit in our out of distract contracts. Our contracts our for a home and away, and if they don't hold up their end of the deal, It's basically impossible to find a game.
We had a team that wanted to forfeit, but was contractually obligated to pay us 10,000 dollars if they didn't show.

I've had quite a few quite during team sled time. It's hard ass work to a lot of them.

Ass kickers win football games. It's something you need to cultivate and emphasize early in your program. If you're asking this question during the season, It's too late. I respectfully disagree, it's never too late to work on being more physical. Some kids light bulb doesn't come on until 3/4 the way through the season, some kids it waits until the last week. I agree it's better than never starting but too many wait till the middle of the season and then want to focus on it. It should be one of the foundations of every program

Physicality comes from your coaching attitude and how you teach it.

I'll give you an exception, and every rule has them if you're a good coach. We had a bee one time fly into one of our players helmet, and it stung him. Natural reaction was to get the helmet off and freak out.
We laughed at it and didn't kick him off.
I also have a three strikes and you're off the team for unexcused absences during the season. I have a general out line of what an excused absence is, but I also give myself some wiggle room.

I don't have too many rules but that's one of my main ones. If you throw your helmet, you're off the team. So your best player who is a division 1 athlete throws his helmet because he just took a cheap shot and is flustered and you throw him off the team? Yes, It's the most important and expensive piece of equipment that they have as a player, and it's a safety hazard if it hits someone else. I get being frustrated, but they've got to control their emotions. If their wife/significant other pisses them, they've got to be able to control their emotions. I view it as a life skill. I've only had to enforce it once, and that was at practice. My players know that I don't have a lot of rules, but the ones that we do have we believe in and sell why to the players. I don't give two shits about socks, shoe colors, arm bands, hair length, ear rings or a ton of other stuff people try to police.

Our back up QB threw his helmet on the sideline during a game, we made him dress and not play on the JV then not even dress for the Varsity game the following week. During practice all he did was roll the length of the field and back, sundials after each roll, and a gasser in between each roll. Same thing for our starting QB when he got ejected for throwing a punch. His game punishment was he was suspended for 2 games and not allowed to even wear a uniform or be on the sideline. He had to sit in the press box and chart for the spotter. Any other unsportsmanlike is usually just 200 yards of up downs every 5 yards. I don't have too many rules but that's one of my main ones. If you throw your helmet, you're off the team.

We lack a solid offensive line and obviously that may be the whole issue. Our C and LG are our weakest sports. we try to run our zones and reads. We are an zone team primarily. Our QB is not a gamebreaker but has the potential to get you 5 yards if his read is correct, average arm We constantly rep what we run in practice i have been coming to think maybe we just dont have the horses but we do have a couple solid players who can out run the D if we get them in space but it just seems like nothing is working haha and obviously nothing is we are 12 quarters without a score and our previous game 1 first down. Also dropped balls has been a massive issue for us, 6 drops in one game any of them could have gone for 6 Are you having more success in your gap schemes?

I'd simplify your systems so you can have more players playing both ways, and not force a two platoon just because that's what you see on TV. I think this would help a lot with the players finding it boring and quitting too.
A lot of high schools that shouldn't be platoon will do it just because that's what college and NFL teams do. Your studs have to be on the field, and generally no amount of reps is going to make up the genetic difference.

I only worry about what I can control, and how the other coach handles himself and his teams after games isn't something that I really give a {censored} about.
You made a poor choice afterwards by taking the picture. Win, take the high road, and try to get all of your kids some playing time in a one sided game.

One of my coaches played high school ball in the late 30's and early 40's till WW2 than in college after the war. He's still alive and very sharp, but his big point is the face mask.
He said in his days everything was about the shoulder and more rugby style because they still used a leather helmet, and that using the helmet and the head didn't become an issue till they put face mask on them.

If I'm going to test their toughness, it sure as hell isn't going to be in running them.
I want to test them at game like situations as much as possible.

I like film but think it's way over done, and some people like to do a lot of useless busy work, just so they'll feel like they're grinding. I'm way more interested in finding ways to run a more efficient practice and better focusing more on fundamentals and having the kids play confident and fast.

You need to be running them through drills, practice routine and structure before your first official practice in full pads, if at all possible.
I'd also have a pretty strict attendance policy with that many players instead of letting them come and go as they please. This will save you a lot of headaches down the road anyways.
