HOME GAME: 12 School out. 1 Report to team meeting room unless previously excused. 115-330 We usually put a movie on the projector and just let boys relax. 330 Team meal. 4 Special teams check/last minute instructions. 430 If JV game, team is in the stands. 5 If no JV game, get taped 545 Specialists out 6 Stretch and pregame. They get out of school at 12? Yes. Boarding school. It is so they can make it home, if they choose, and have a good amount of the weekend to spend time with their families.

Last night, the kids were running their warm-up laps and started singing the Marine Corps cadence song from "Full Metal Jacket"... While the AD was twenty yards away.. He was livid, especially because the coaching staff couldn't stop laughing. They must've practiced the song somewhere because all 40+ kids nailed it.. Edit: The HC hollered at them to knock it off and they did but one kid replied "THERE AREN'T ANY ESKIMO WOMEN HERE TO OFFEND!!" This is awesome...

Are you the team that is down? I believe in California it is automatic if any team is up by more than 35 after the 3rd quarter.
Have coached in games where the refs asked opposing coach if he wanted to run the clock after half, we were up 56-0, the opposing HC said of course. One coach asked after the first quarter, we were up 28-0, and they had lost their starting QB and RB during the game. Our HC told him no, because as stated before, it cut down valuable reps for our backups. We did run it after halftime though. Have coached in a few games where we were on the other end of the stick and just let the rules dictate the clock.

Our current staff gets along pretty well. 3 of us were HS teammates, 1 of our guys dad coached with the HC, 2 on our staff were former players of ours at a different school.

If your mascot was the Pirates, I always thought it would be cool to just paint the end zone black with a white skull and cross bones in the middle.

I coach in the San Diego section. It is NOT an issue for us. We have played teams from the Southern Section and the San Joaquin Section that brought up JV players that did not have helmet decals that matched the Varsity and it was not an issue.

We ran out of helmet stickers for our logo/mascot and are re-ordering. I'm not sure if they will arrive before game 1. Is it considered a uniform violation if there are players that do not have a logo sticker while others do? Where do you coach?

For us we are in a unique situation being a military boarding school. The boys must do PT. We are limited by our state (Commiefornia) on the number of hours we can have to practice. The weightlifting coach for the school runs the conditioning "practice" in the morning, which includes weightlifting. This leaves us a full 3 hours we can practice in the afternoon, we usually only go 2-2.5 hours. Our practices are the same we would do in-season, obviously with more of an emphasis on teaching than prepping for a specific opponent.

Last season we had a veteran OL group. Indy period for them was quick, up tempo, lots of reps. This season is a ton more teaching and correcting. We are a boarding school and so we don't see our kids until we open camp in August.

We shake hands, salute the fans, and huddle right away. HC speaks to kids for about 5-10 minutes. AD might say something, General might say something. 15 minutes tops. Depending on the distance from home determines if we shower or not. We have the managers set up the coolers along side the bus. the boy get their food as the get on the bus. We try to get on the road no more than 45 minutes after the game ends.

Our Monday is our intro to opponent day for defense, Base formations/personnel groupings. Offensively it is intro to our opponents defense, perimeter run and quick game. Gear worn is determined by outcome of the previous weeks game. If we win, shorts and shells. If we lose, full pads.

At my previous school we went M-Th, 12-230. Lift, field work, conditioning. If the skill guys had a 7 on 7 game they would lift, speed work then be off until 7 on 7.
At my current school we don't do any summer work because we are a boarding school.

The college I went to called the scout team the Kodak team. Awarded a weekly award that got a t-shirt, and awarded a Kodak player of the year award. I still don't know why it was called Kodak though...

This is a great topic. I have over the course of my career worked for 4 different head coaches all with slightly different philosophies. At each stop I have been given the task of taking their materials and putting them in "playbook form". It is quite a daunting task with everything else going on today with family, teaching, and current football related activities. I keep and save EVERYTHING FROM EVERYWHERE AND EVERYONE and categorize it. I am "old school" though in I love hard copies still even though we are in "tech-driven" society. I learned the hard way years ago when I bought software that was recommended and become easily frustrate with its controls. I have spent time creating offensive, defensive, and special teams playbooks for those head coaches and kept my own stuff as well. There are guys who have GREAT stuff on here however, I feel playbooks do not adhere to the learning style of today's young people due to attention. Resources: HUDL is great with the ability to create, share, and with the use of video however, you can't carry or take with to other program (?). I prefer powerpoint. It is more time consuming, but I like the familiarity I have with it. JUST PLAY is a new one (costs money) but you design, upload clips, and give kids quizzes. I prefer hard copies as well. But after I create the hard copy I add a PDF version to my Google drive so I can access anywhere and anytime.

We were told the same thing at a former stop. But the sled company sold a piece that bolted to the bottom of the sled to prevent damage to the turf, it was approved by the turf company.

We had a team kick field goals instead of punt. They kicked one with the tee on the goal line. Why? Did they expect their opponents to treat a place kick as poison? Or did they just have a better place kicker than a punter? We had a team do this as well. They didn't have a long snapper. They kicked one out of their own end zone, tee about 3 yards deep.

This isn't about political debate, just a simple question...I'm catching flak from some parents because we aren't always out on the field when the anthem is played by bands. I reached out to several coaches I know and they are all the same, rarely out in time for it. Is this common? Being a military school we make it a point.

The thought of online meetings gave me an idea. What are your thoughts on expanding these in season meetings to the off season? This would be a great way to do some Roundtable type discussions with other coaches. Now they don't have to be all in your area.
