we do this every summer with incoming freshman. you would be surprised how many kids can't answer why the sticks are there, what the hashes are for, etc. I have been strongly considering making an entire youtube series on this topic... DO IT...

We stop about halfway. Give the kids a bathroom break/allow them to walk around/stretch. Give them some fruit, water/Gatorade. Lastly do a quick special teams check. Sort of sets the tone that it's now business time and we need to be focused from here on.

My last stop we were full pads Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday was our really physical day of the week. Wednesday was pass, draw, screen day. Monday dress was determined by outcome of Fridays game. Win shells, loss full pads. Thursday was shells.
My current school we go full pads only Tuesdays. Mostly shells. Occasionally just helmets.

It depends. At my last school we were strictly 4 wide 2x2. We would often bring a slot in for 7 man pass pro if the defense was showing a 7 man pressure. Sometimes it would be our stud other times it would be the other slot. But we would also run slow screens from this same look. So it depends on what you do offensively and if you are able to make many things all look the same.

We had a local dry cleaning business do ours in exchange for a free advertisment in the media guide. Pick up practice gear Thursday night and return Saturday morning. Pick up Friday nights game uniforms and drop off Monday.

At my last school we used to have a sign, taped to the door out to the field, that had our logo and the saying champions play here. We would take it down after football season. Finally they got smart and just painted a big permanent one on the wall next to the door.

On Wednesdays our skill guys have a competition to see which group can catch the most consecutive passes without a drop. Inside receivers (Slots/TEs/RB) vs Wideouts. Loser has to run 4 40 yard sprints. Group that wins the overall for the season gets pizza or something like that.

To possibly have a QB in our program, for the first time in 5 seasons, for more than one year. We will have this at the varsity level as well. The probable heir is only going to be a sophomore. He's 6'4, not done growing, and has a cannon. The only knock on him is that he isn't the quickest and we do like to run our QB, but he gives us some options in the playbook for sure. Ours will be a Jr. 6'1. His knock is never played football before last season. But hes not afraid.

Absolulety. We play in the Northern section that goes up to Oregon, and there is no reason for us to be traveling to San Diego to play a game. Glad the CA coaches agree, I have met coaches who like this model. I am in the Southern section, we have enough teams down here (not to mention the San Diego Section, or LA Section). Problem is local CIF regions are doing anything they can to make money and justify their professional existence. So we need new bad ideas every year. And you could split SS into at least 2 maybe 3 sections...

At my previous stop football, baseball, softball and basketball all had an athletic period. Football had 3 classes, 1 for each level. Athletic period was the last period of the day. Track coach had a class but it was mixed with regular students and his track athletes.
Each student in the class had to be an athlete for that sport.
For football in season it was used as a film and install session. When the season ended it becomes a normal PE class period with an emphasis on athletic movements. M/W skill on the field offensive emphasis on Monday defense on Wednesday, line in the weight room. Wednesday was classroom work for the QBs. They would review coverages and which concepts in our passing game had the best success vs the various coverages. Skills would lift after school. T/Th line on the field offensive emphasis on Tuesday defense on Thursday, skill in weight room. Line would lift after school. Friday was usually a 7 on 7 day for skills line in weight room.
Class schedule was 6 1 hour periods, so the class was daily.

Umm..you are about 7 years behind. NYC tried to start this "war" 7 years ago. But theirs was to gain more tax revenue. You cannot buy a soda larger than 20oz...but if you want more than that you can buy 2 (which means we can tax you twice)

Not only can I not think of anything I care less about than my players hair, but I am actually currently growing a mullet as part of an agreement with 5 seniors. We are all growing mullets together as long as one of those 5 doesnt miss a single workout. If even one misses, they are all gone. This started the Monday before Thanksgiving, and we are still growing. Interestingly enough, the most successful football program in our state will not hire you if you have facial hair. I think I have been clean shaven once in the past 10 years, so I know I will never be working there. Also, I think it is ridiculous that any grown man would tell another grown man what he should look like, but if you dont toe their line you cant work there, fair enough. My son is 3 years old and we havent cut his hair yet. My wife keeps asking me if we are going to cut it. I said only if i can give him a mullet...

Seems like it would be do able. I don't know anyone that has done it, but there are a lot things that people didn't do until someone was the first. Who do you think will watch it? I don't know if it still possible, but a few years ago we used it as a fundraiser. We would upload old seasons and charge a fee for access.

When I was at a public school the district paid for it. Now at a private school it comes out of the general athletics budget.

I think it's absolutely absurd to assume that OP isn't prioritizing school because he's miffed that a kid wanted to miss an essential part of summer practice for AP classes. The kid probably wanted to use that time to do his summer homework, which was assigned well before the end of the school year. That's how AP works. The kid procrastinated and then wanted to miss practice to cover for it is what it seems like. I'd be miffed about that too, and I'm all in on the classroom. Regardless, the kid showed where his priorities lie. Probably Fortnite. I think its ABSURD to get mad at a kid for putting his future and education before football. Want to know a reason why football numbers are down, its because of coaches that get mad at kids for doing whats right for their future and not yours. Kid made the right choice, you can rationalize it all you want, but the kid was right and so was his parents. Your won loss record isnt important to the future of the kid. Kid was an incoming freshman. He didnt have any homework to do. I never said anything about not putting education first. In fact out of the 45 kids in our program all but 3 are on the honor roll, and most have over a 3.5 GPA. Our football program has the highest GPA of all sports at our school. When it comes to academics, that is the only time a kid gets a pass, no questions asked. All but 3 kids in our program are in at least 1 AP course, with most of them in at least 2 AP courses.

My first boss called the offense, but it was his defense. He had a defensive play caller for game days, but could override him on any call if he didn't like it. I have seen this before but it’s an off arrangement. If the head coach is actually running the defense and doing the game planning it makes sense. But if the head coach is hands off until things get hot then once to jump in and call the shots, I think it is bs. It’s his team but I don’t think you can have it both ways. Either it’s your defense or it’s not. In your instance it sounds like it’s the head coach’s defense and he fully invested so I see no issue with it. Yes. I would do the game plan offensively while he doing the game plan/scheme defensively. Then he would meet with the offense and OK/tweak the game plan before writing scouting report.

We always took Monday off and bumped practice back a day, Tuesday would be a typical Monday practice and so on. Conditioning changed during the bye week. Normally we don't condition Thursdays, but during the bye week we would condition hard on Friday. The boys would have Saturday off.
Practice wise it was a lot of individual and fundemental work.
