My first year coaching we are in stretch lines. I notice one kid has a butt pad down his pants leg on his hamstring. I asked why and he said my hamstring hurts.
This past season. I work with long snappers during Special Teams. One day Im clocking the punt snaps I look down at a JV snapper and I noticed something odd about his thigh pads, girdle with the thigh pads that wrap around your thighs type. I call to him and he stands up. I asked him if his girdle was on backwards. He answers yes coach, my hamstrings are tight so I put my girdle on backwards.

I live in Wisconsin and don't hunt, fish, or go out with my buddies. When people are amazed by that I tell them I know a lot of divorced FB coaches that like to hunt, fish, and go out. I know a lot of happily married ones that don't. Football is my hobby. Lucky for me my wife enjoys fishing too...My niece and nephew that we raised also enjoy fishing...So this is something we can do as a family...

An older coach told me early in my coaching career...At the end of each season make sure you buy your wife a piece of jewelry as a thank you for allowing you to coach...I do it every other year...

We moved to a new school this year. HC was handing out practice schedules the other day. The guy who is a hold over from the last staff said "Coach this has your old teams name next to our helmet on the paper and the date says aug 18 2011!" So yeah we don't change our practice routine very much at all. OOPS...HAHAHA...

Our varsity has home, away, and two sets of alternate jerseys. I don't get the decision to get them. Can someone sell me on the benefits of these versus something like an end zone camera? ONE OF OUR ASSISTANT COACHES TOLD THE BOYS IF THEY WON THE SECTION TITLE (CA) HE WOULD BUY THE PROGRAM AN ALTERNATE UNIFORM...HE HAS MONEY LIKE THAT I GUESS...

Well said. The only thing I would have added was to have publicized the parent's name. This is also why the best thing I've learned along the way is a hard and fast rule: "We will NEVER discuss playing time with a parent". I don't work for administrators who don't understand and support this rule. AT OUR PARENT MEETING AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SEASON OUR HC TELLS THE PARENTS...IF YOUR KID ISNT PLAYING ASK HIM HE KNOWS THE REASON HE ISNT PLAYING...
