I know this should be in Technology section but I think it could belong in General too.....
We are thinking of doing an online meeting this year on Sundays- with one of the many apps/websites out there- just to go over a few things from the previous game and initial game plan thoughts for the new opponent- and then meet on Monday's after practice to solidify things. I've never done this before but like most staffs we have some challenges at times to meet on the weekends.
Has anyone done this and if so, WHAT APP/Website would you recommend as being the best or easiest to use?

How collaborative do you want these meetings to be?

Seems interesting and resembles today's society in the direction we are going especially in corporate America

When I was doing webinars last winter with coaches on here (hoping to bring them back when I have more time) I was using freeconferencecall.com and it worked well.
For a smaller group I would look into Zoom. It's more functional than something like Google Hangouts IMO.

Try Slack (https://slack.com). Video and regular calls/meetings with multiple people all in the app. Screen share (for paid version only but I think there are plugins for this). You can use this instead of email too because it's an organized text chat tool (offense channel, defense channel, game week channel). Works great on smartphones. There are free and paid plan options. I've used it at my last two jobs (I'm not a teacher).
This is one area I swear on. The day of forcing everyone into one room for a meeting is over -- at least among coaches. No reason it can't be done for coaching staffs when incredible apps are made all online like this and business meetings like this occur everyday.
It will keep coaches at home with their families and eliminate commute time. It can be very organized with the regular chat options too so you can continue the conversation without chatting one to one. You can even do a direct call with someone right in the app -- so if your OC and OL coaches need to talk to each other to clarify something, they can.
I encourage all staffs to try it.

How hard is this for those 'Un-online' types?

Or maybe pen and paper types

Really pretty easy. As long as everyone has a google account (free). It's like making a phone call or sending an email.

I vote for getting out of the house. Too many distractions at home. If guys can or can't make it great. As long as the decision makers are there.

How hard is this for those 'Un-online' types? I got my dad to figure it out so it must be pretty easy.

In case anyone is interested.....we used Zoom.com. Its the same platform that is used for the Glazier Clinics. Besides a few tech glitches with the microphone that we eventually figured out, all 8 of my coaches were able to meet through the computer. They saw my computer screen as we went through practice & game plans, and I have the ability to turn the camera on/off for the coaches if I need to see their face for some reason. You can have free meetings for up to 40 minutes, or $15 pays for unlimited minutes, per month. So for $45-60 its perfect for us for football season. Our first meeting went very well and all of our coaches seemed happy with it, especially since time is so important.

The other great thing is I have some coaches that have Windows and some have Macs. One coach couldn't get his mic to work so he downloaded the Zoom app on his ipad and it worked perfectly. So its easily adaptable to whatever your coaches have available. Two used their iphones, and the rest used computers.

no to derail but you guys who have been doing this what are your thoughts? Do you feel like you get more input from everybody this way or less? Does it save you time or work out about the same? I've worked with some cats that couldn't get off their phones in a face to face game plan session so I don't know what we'd get if a dude can have the meeting minimized and be browsing the web the whole time.

Has anyone done this and if so, WHAT APP/Website would you recommend as being the best or easiest to use? We have used Google Hangouts in the past. I also would do a screen cast w/ the app s creencast-o-matic and basically do a 10-15 minute scouting report on our opponent as well as an AAR on our last game. All coaches would be assigned a part of the opponent's gameplan to put together a scouting report and we'd curate a folder on Google Drive w/ all that information. Between coaches putting together playlists on HUDL and sharing them, the Scouting Report folder on Drive and the screencast I shared with kids and coaches, we could have a pretty good online meeting and all be on the same page.

Its been tremendous for us..We use Zoom like coach Plaa above. We pay the $15 for unlimited meetings. We all have what we want to show and each coach can show his screen.. Weirdly, I think it has actually brought us closer together, the guys that have young kids don't have to leave home...We are usually having a couple of beers "together" too which make for a more relaxed atmosphere

I agree with Coach Gordon. They have really helped us because 1) everyone can make it no matter what's going on, and 2) sharing the screen has been great. Best yet it gives back another hour of commute time to coaches that don't live nearby.

coachplaa and jgordon1 how long are these meetings lasting? We set up a shard Google Folder that our offensive staff works on during the weekend but the meeting idea sounds interesting because there are somethings that would be best discussed.

We go about 45 minutes on defense, then 15 minutes with everyone together, and another 30-40 minutes just offense. I have a gameplan checklist I go through to make sure everything gets covered.

The thought of online meetings gave me an idea. What are your thoughts on expanding these in season meetings to the off season?

Give a look at appear.in. You create a room (you choose the name) and then share the link. Everyone with a mic and camera on their computer can get right in. They also have apps that work great. You are limited to 8 users on the free plan. I find it to work great with users of any technical ability.
Sharing video over video conference is always going to have it's issues because of the way the technology works.

Are there apps out there that would allow a pretty large group to do a “clinic”? I know there isn’t a lot of 8 man clinics and I think this would allow for something like that if there was an app like these that would support a larger group for a clinic so to speak

I would love a large online clinic.
For the Zoom app - can someone who has used it answer this for me please: What do all assistants need on their 'home computers' to participate in the meeting? (Microphone, camera?) anything else?
Who controls what all others see on their computers? Can you watch film this way - or is it better to watch prior to meeting and report on information?
I'm interested, but just hate to lose the personal, one on one aspect that unites a staff. Thanks
