After every practice. Not on game day though.

The main thing we didn't like about static stretching was how long it took and how the players would talk and screw around. Once we went to dynamic stretching, it was done in 5 minutes at the most and it was mainly silent. Most teams we played didn't static stretch either.

Current Program: Static stretch everyday. Honestly it takes forever and most players don't bother to do it correctly anyway. But that is the way we do it. It works. We win.
Former Program: Dynamic Warm-up. We called it DROM for Dynamic Range of Motion or Flex Period. Five minutes. I taught them a routine. If memory serves me correctly we had a line from sideline to sideline, two guys deep. On game nights we dressed that up a little so it looked more organized.

For recovery and flexibility work only.
I don't even like dynamic stretch warmups the way we do them right now. What I liked best was building a warmup into your EDDs positionally, saving 10 minutes of practice.

Put me down for no stretching at all. We always get done with practice under 2 hours and few injuries. And we would be characterized as pretty high contact in practice.

From reading responses on here over the years it appears many coaches' main objections to static stretching as warm-up is that it seems to them as if nothing much is getting done because the kids aren't moving-doing football-specific stuff and coaches are standing around not coaching.

We do every day and I hate hate hate it.
First thing I will nix when I get my first HC job. Dynamic only. If we do static it will be after for recovery if at all.

Previously did it at the end, got rid of it this past season because kids would screw around and I decided I'd rather get them out 10 minutes earlier. No change in injury rate.

Well, that and a lack of evidence for it.

We do both a static and dynamic stretch.

We do both static and dynamic. I feel we get more out of the dynamic and rather that we not do the static.

If the kids aren't performing the static stretch properly it's your fault as a coach. If I catch one not doing it right they're going to get an extremely dynamic warmup and they know it. I like an official start to practice as an entire team and this is it for us...it takes five minutes, and then we do five minutes of what y'all call dynamic, and then we move on...the value in it is what you make of it.

Dynamic to start practice, static to finish practice.

Well, that and a lack of evidence for it. And as Tim Bolden from Colerain, OH pointed out, one of his assistants as a Vietnam Vet never stretched before running from Charlie but managed not to pull anything running to make sure they were covered & in a coordinated defensive position. A bit extreme & just an entertaining clinic talk...likely! Regardless, we take about 5-10 minutes to do a walking “dynamic” warm-up after a very “light” pre-practice (Line takes 4 steps & strikes the sled while receivers & backs go through 2 ball catching). No significant muscle related injuries in 3 years. Only injuries in game have been bone / ligament (Nasty Broken Knee Cap & Dislocated Hip at the JV level & a few twisted / rolled ankles that just needed some tape) or 3 diagnosed “C” words.
