I've heard good things about Darin Slack's QB camps. He has been on this site in the past but haven't crossed paths with him lately since I seldom go over the O sections, so I don't know if he in on here much www.quarterbackacademy.com/all-nfa-events/This man is awesome!!! Also like the Slack camps

I think it really comes down to how serious his health concerns are. Sometimes the mind is willing but the body is weak.

i am looking into Iowa st..Katy Tx and a couple of other things i saw on X and O labs We've been slowly, awkwardly stumbling towards something like ISU's dime package... Trying to find a subtle way to send some articles about it to the HC. I don't think your HC understands "subtle."

I will say that some basic strategic decisions can badly amplify talent disparities. I will also say that a lot of the truly terrible teams are poorly coached in terms of fundamentals, but the guys coaching those teams don't realize what fundamentals need to be fixed or how to fix them and chalk it up to a lack of talent or "low football IQ." You can't fix poor blocking, poor releases, poor man coverage technique, or poor defensive pursuit angles during a game. A classic example is the team that sucks at tackling because their players don't understand leverage as it relates to pursuit. Everybody just lines up and sells out to chase the guy with the ball, running themselves out of position and grabbing at the ball carrier from poor angles. Then their coaches chew their @$$es on the sideline for bad tackling and effort and make them do a bunch of form tackling drills in practice, but the issue never improves because they're not getting to the root causes of the problem. Good coaching in terms of getting kids in the weightroom consistently, teaching fundamentals, and having the common sense to play to your own strengths rather than emulate what you see everyone else doing can and will help make a less talented team look significantly better.
Are you talking about the Oakland Raiders?

My last year (2013) we had 9 out of 10 games that ended with a running clock. We won 4 of them and lost 5 of them. There was a huge talent disparity on the schedule that year in both directions.

I would say that over half the games in the Sacramento, Ca area are 40 point blow-outs every week.

Be aware, if you DO go above District policy, it won't hold up if it gets challenged. And it will.

We learned the hard way many years ago that the thing that escalates a fight on the field is when everyone runs out on the field to engage. We had a game called in the 2nd quarter by the refs because it got so ugly with players AND coaches. When our Principal called the HC in on Monday he asked "What was your Action Plan?" We realized our Action Plan was "Our kids will never fight," which turned out to be a pretty weak plan. So we came up with something. We normally form up into a squad to start practice, end practice, etc on the Head Coach, so if something starts to happen on the field we call out "Squad Up" and the players all run to wherever the Head Coach is. This leaves the other team with no one to fight. We had one game where this happened and the opposing team started to fight themselves because they didn't have anyone else to fight. (The opposing HC got fired over that one) We even got letters from that teams parents praising our kids for keeping their cool. On Thursday we have someone pretend to start a fight, and we practice squading up on the sideline and then remind them of the consequences if they run out there. (Also reminds the Coaches. In some cases they're worse than the kids!) It's worked very well for us, and Admin knows you've addressed it beforehand. Please tell me you have film of this. Kudos to you for being smart & proactive in diffusing the situation
I did once, but lost over time. It was pretty awesome. We had 40 kids in 6 tight rows on a knee and the other team was running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

Here's our Thursday Script. This is all vs air. Some years we wore pads, some years just game cloth and helmets. The last thing on the list is "Crisis Control." We practice what to do in case a fight breaks out during the game. It has saved our butts a few times over the years. Most important thing on the script.

Thinking about this a bit more, I think the problem probably starts before HS, and HS coaches just make it worse.
As an example, I just saw an article in our paper about an 8 years and under baseball team traveling to Utah (from California) for an All-Star game. Out of state for 8 year olds. Are you kidding me!!

I really think it needs to come down from administration. A school wide lifting program, endorsed and supported by admin can always help as well.
In my neck of the woods we call that a unicorn.

We've been many times. We always stay in Kaanapali Beach area, but its a small island, nowhere is too far away. Good snorkeling at Black Rock, beach entry. Molokini is a fish reserve so a million fish but also a million tourists. Many boats go there. The fastest one is the Prince Kuhio so you get there a little ahead of everyone. We also did the snorkel/sail using Trilogy Tours, but most are good. If you feel a little adventurous, take one of the Zodiac snorkel trips. Can get a little bouncy, but fun. Food is expensive and kind of up and down. Word of advice. Leilani's On The Beach is popular, but it changed ownership a year ago and was terrible last time we went. In Lahaina, can't go wrong with Bubba Gump's. Kimo's is also decent and not crazy expensive. If you get tired of ocean-related stuff, believe it or not, go see the magic show called Warren and Annabelle. It's family friendly and very funny as well as great close up hand magic. They offer dinner beforehand but it's much better to eat ahead of time and just go to the show. (There's actually a pretty good pizza place two doors down.) If you feel adventurous, ask for the front row. We have been many times and still enjoy it. Its a small theatre so book ahead of time. Luau's are always good. There are several to choose from. The one at the Hyatt in Kaanapali is good. They also do one in Lahaina that's supposed to be good, but we've never been. After all that, take out a 2nd mortgage on your home. Have fun!

We did 3 days a week in the evening, 5:30-8:30PM for four weeks. (11 days as we always took off 4th of July) This included weights, conditioning, and on the field stuff. This allowed kids to have a summer job, and our non-teaching coaches to be there.

A lot of parents send their kids to private schools as a form of "white flight." In many cases they are pretty overt about it. It would be interesting to see what the ethnic breakdown of the school is, minus the football team. That might answer the question of what this is really about. As far as the list of transgressions that led to his firing, I would imagine everyone on this site would be filing for unemployment right now if these were enforced. Remember, no one is perfect. If they want you out, they will find a reason. There was a school in this area that fired a teacher a few years back. The stated reason was because she walked across the hall, still in plain sight of her classroom, to grab some staples. She also happened to be the union President during a salary dispute. We're all vulnerable, tenure or not.

This may also fall under the D-Bag category, but I coached with a guy who, when we played at his Alma Mater's stadium, decided to give a motivational pre-game speech. The quote was "This is MY field. I {censored}*d on this field." He's currently on the school board in a neighboring district. (Apparently our kids weren't motivated. We got killed)

I think your rules are going to end being whatever the school and or District rules are, because they won't back you on anything extra you come up with. Shoot, they usually don't back you on their own rules. That being said, we always had a rule that if you miss practice you don't start. If you miss a Wednesday practice(before a Friday game) you won't suit up for that game. It worked pretty well, and the Wednesday rule kept us from trying to play an in injured or sick player before he was ready, or the kids using a sniffle to miss practice.

The Genie is long out of the bottle, there's no going back. The parents drank the scholarship Kool-Aid a long time ago, and its worse now than ever on that front. My granddaughter plays 15 and under Club Volleyball and that's ALL the parents talk about, which gets pretty old at an all-day tournament.

On a road trip to a play-off game vs. a very good pass happy team, our best DB got caught with a can of chew (I'm a HS HC). Had to kick him off of the team and have the AD pick him up at our walk through. He had 9 pics in 9 games and was a a true LD DB. We lost rather badly. But I'd make the same choice if it happened again. You kicked a kid off because of a can of dip??? We lost the starting QB's on the Varsity and JV teams on the same day (Thursday) over chew. They were dipping right in front of the VP. (Maybe they weren't smart enough to play QB) School has had cut and dried rules about tobacco, alcohol and drugs for years, everybody knows them but kids are kids. Our backup QB was also hurt. We had to move our starting Wingback to QB during the Thursday walk-through, even though he never played QB before. Oh, and the game was for first place. Good news, we won anyway and the kid threw two TD passes, one on a Bootleg and one on a screen pass. Of course we also an All-World Running Back that year so that helped.

"Do whatever the head coach asks as if it is the most important thing in the world." I now understand the full plate a HS HC already has and will work my butt off to take as much off as possible while adding value wherever and however I can." This has been my mantra for 40+ years. IMHO, the three most important traits of an assistant are loyalty to the HC, a great work ethic, and a willingness to learn. I would add "Do the jobs nobody else wants to do."

Yesterday was pretty extraordinary it what all I had to do. I forgot that I also spent an hour with a d1 recruiter who was looking at a lot of our kids. Generally, I am not team mom, water boy, ref, bookeeper, nor crime Investigator. Lol. Just one of those days. And it just happened to be busy week of school with exams next week. Also, I do only have two math classes, so it sounded worse. Didn't mean to imply that I am classroom all day. I also am super lucky. My wife is PE teacher and assistant AD. Two of kids are there and my oldest son is an assistant football coach. He also keeps the basketball books but he went to see Last Jedi, so I kept books for him. Pretty cool on Fridays when I coach, and one son is playing, the other coaching, and my daughter is ball girl while my wife is the admin in charge. They do pay me well and it is a great school and we have some athletes right now. Willing to bet that 90% on this board would trade with me right now. But man, yesterday was humdinger. Well in that case, what a whiner!
