I have a really good Oline Coach who cant make the commitment of weekly practice because of Health concerns. I would like to keep him around in some capacity and have filled my entire staff leaving no vacancies. Any ideas on what i should do with him or what function I should use him for in order to help our team/staff or even myself?

Ask him what days he can attend on the Sunday prior to the practice week and tailor meaningful minutes for him to coach up points of emphasis from the previous week's game.

I was on a staff once where the head coach had a lot of big time NFL connections, and had a bunch of part time NFL guys who helped coach positions. It became a cluster. When theyd show up it ended up stepping on toes and clashes of what to do.
I write this just as a warning, be specific in tasks assigned. Quality Control coach would be something- breakdown film on opponents, self scout for tendencies, provide a report on such to coordinators, be in the booth or get back on gamedays.

We had a guy who just ran the scout teams - literally all he did. He coached another sport and just wanted to help out when possible, which wasn't always every day, but when he could make it he did and all of the position coaches watched their position instead of managing scout teams. At first I thought it was a waste of a coaching spot but on the days he was gone I definitely realized it.
If you think that's a waste of his skills/knowledge whatever, I'd say ask the main OL coach if he'd want his help when possible (assuming you only have one OL coach). As an OL guy myself, I know there are days where I wish I could split the TE's and tackles off from the interior during run indy or the tackles away from the interior during pass indy. Having somebody I could trust to work on pass sets with the tackles while I worked on twists/blitz pick up with the interior would be amazing.
EDIT: As the above poster mentioned, I'd try to get a plan of what days he'd be there on Sunday so the OL coach can plan accordingly.

The great part is you already know the coach’s abilty and personality and the kids know him.
So it sounds like he will be a help if he helps any at all.
My suggestions, can he help on game night? An extra set of eyes in the box can always help. Or watch the left side of the o line all night, etc? Help with equipment, filming, setup, etc. but that might be wasting him.
What about breaking down hudl film?

I went back to Grad School a couple years ago and had to cut back on practice time because of it. I essentially became the film guy/Pressbox guy on Friday Night. I took control of film breakdown, had input in game planning/practice planning, and was in charge of the box on Friday Nights. With Hudl and technology I could do most of this at work/home when I could not be at practice. It kept me in the game, and gave them a unique help on a small staff.

If he gets on well with the full time OL coach this could work well. He can break down film - game and practice - for your o-line. Having a second set of eyes on the line was a great help to us. One guy would watch the left, the other the right, and it made it much easier to make adjustments when the line came to the sideline.

Having a 2nd OL coach, especially one in a part-time role with no delusions of grandeur, would be a great asset to any staff!!! As long as he knows the system and vocabulary, I dont know an OL coach in the country who wouldnt want a 2nd set of eyes

A Second Offensive Line Coach is something I took pride upon as long as I've been coaching because I learned that from the old school Nebraska team's when Milt Tenopir and Dan Young were coaching the big boys. That came in handy back 2014 when the head O-line coach was gone for most of the year while earning his administration license to become a principal. I stepped in full time and didn't miss a beat. No conflict in drill teaching, or practice planning.

I think it really comes down to how serious his health concerns are. Sometimes the mind is willing but the body is weak.

film.
whether its putting in data for the week or next opponent. data entry is huge for us. or game day filming.
charting plays on game day. tendencies.
if he's just a game day guy he could come in on monday (install day) and thursday (game prep day) then do something for the game
