Might be wrong forum/board ,but more people seem to check the general board.
Have any of you ever returned or been asked to return to a previous coaching stop that you left for a better opportunity or were "asked" to leave?
And why or why not did you choose to return or not return.

Once. Treated it as I would an ex-girlfriend. I didn't come back because I left for a reason. Didn't want to get fooled by the "director's cut version" of the relationship I had with that school in my head. If you left or were asked to leave and those issues were never addressed, they'll be there when you return.

Two years ago I was a JV head coach and I had issues with the HC. The knowledgeable guys on this board helped me wrap my thick head around the fact that it was his program, not mine, and I should support him or GTHO. Once I learned that lesson I was a total team player and I really enjoyed working for him. It wasn't until after the season ended that I learned from some parents and the AD that the HC threw me under the bus for an issue that was entirely his fault (he and I fought hard about it). I resigned immediately which was difficult because two of my sons, a senior and a freshman, were still in the program.
I thought my coaching days were over but a local public school asked me to come coach for them which I accepted. About mid summer the old HC came knocking and put the hard sell on me to come back. The more I declined the harder he pressed until I eventually told him outright, "Your football knowledge is incredible but it isn't nearly enough to cover your lack of integrity and other character flaws. I wish you luck but I would sooner stick my head in a vise than come back and work under you."

I’m back coaching at a school where I was an assistant and left to take a head coaching position at another school. After nine seasons there I returned (as an assistant). Same head coach and most of the staff is the same so it was not hard to get back into the swing of things.

We went 6-6 in '12, 0-11 in '13 and then 2-9 in '14 with VERY young rosters. I was fired December 12th, 2014 (on my birthday of all day's) in a meeting with my principal (not the one that hired me and KNEW the hurt we were going to be in for two years), Super and AD (AD was behind me all the way). Who made the decision; I don't know (well, I do), but the Super gave me the news. Enter March of 2017 & the guy they hired who was from here, helluva coach in his own right...20 Years as a College Coach; the last 6 before being hired here he was a D1 FCS Coordinator resigns and heads for another job out of state. They went 2-8 in '15, 5-6 in '16. I'm hired back April 19th (Same AD and Same Super); we go 10-2 this year and those Freshmen that took those lumps in '14...7-9 of which that started as Freshmen? They were finally able to have some good times this year. Won our first playoff game in 5 years (last playoff win was my 1st year here as the HC in '12) & only the 3rd Playoff win in the last 11 years. ....can't make this up; almost something out of Hollywood. Super and I are all good (even though he has announced his retirement and is done June 30th); he admitted some mistakes as did I. Have a new principal in place that hired me this time and SHE is amazing. Same AD who I can call a close friend.

I left a school after 5 years as an assistant. Went out of state, things didn't go well. My former HC heard I was looking and offered me my old job back. It ruffled some feathers with other guys on staff because they had taken over my responsibilities and then EVERYTHING came right back to me like I never left. I didn't ask for those responsibilities back but the HC trusted me and I had been the best assistant I could be in my 1st go-round there. I left again after 3 years. He's retiring (supposedly) and I've been called about my interest in the HC job. It's a good school, even better community. I probably should have never left the 1st time but I felt the pull of bigger program/more money.

My first coaching job I was passed up for a teaching spot to a person who’d never taught nor didn’t coach. I left and took a teaching/coaching job elsewhere. A few years later the principal DM’d me on Facebook (real professional ish right there) asking if I’d be interested in a teaching spot on campus. I politely declined but in my head I was thinking to myself “you wouldn’t support me in my biggest time of need. I won’t take your handout now. Find another f’ing history teacher”

I asked because I was just asked back for the 3rd time in the last 2 years. If you've left twice in as many years already, I assume there's a good reason for it. In which case I would stay away.
