Rumble...Lightning.
Once I coached at a Catholic school. They used Sinistro and Dextro...Latin words for right and left. Shortened them to the letters "S" and "D". Yeah, I know...kind of pompous.

Rip/Liz for motion, then Ripple/Lizzie for longer or return motions.
Rocket and Lazer (because Razor and Laser can sound too much alike).
Fred and Barney for Field and Boundary.

We have used river and lake before. Pretty easy to catch on to it though. From there we used names of local rivers and lakes. The names made sense to our kids. Gibberish to the other team

We've used Rip/Liz, Right/Left, and Ricky/Lucy in the past.

I will say it again... how do you signal all those words??? need to plan ahead in case you want to go no huddle... That is a great question that i think about a bunch. In all honesty, i think using these terms would be better for formations, in which you can just yell them out and not really care if they pick up on it or not. For calling/signaling actual plays i prefer one word concepts that are predetermined strong or weak. And for those i like to use easy terms that can have multiple signals. For example, a play would be called "Texas" and you would just throw up the Hook 'em.

An old rugby way to distinguish right middle and left is using phrases and go from left to right since you read left to right.
For example
Red (Left), White (Middle) and Blue (Right)-Good for packaged plays Rock (Left) Roll (Right) Steak (Left) Eggs (Right)
Just a little different take on it, I think it makes it a lot harder to pick up on than the Rodger/Lucy.

Used to run a No-Huddle, spread (all 10 personnel) system and our QB would call out the names of our O-Line.
Left tackles/Left Guard names (First name, last name, nickname, etc...) = Left
Right tackle/Right Guard names (First name, last name, nickname, etc...) = Right
Sometimes use the center's name for Draws/Screens.

This is a cool way to do directions. Our hc renames his whole offense each year. Last year college cities were right and the associated mascot was left. He was just asking what else we could use, I am going to throw this out there.

Acually that's not a bad idea. Unless you're playing against kids who have taken and remember it, how many high school kids are going to know Latin?

Is this stuff really that secret? This is a great point...and on top of the question of secrecy how often will the kids that figure out the direction call not figure out its opposite foe them since they are facing a different direction. Sadly I have to coach behind my guys because my mind makes too many mistakes trying to flip the play.

Use NFL Cities to reference the team mascot:
Detroit (Lions) DC (Redskins)
or
Chicago (Bears) Buffalo (Bills)
Not as easy for your opponent to decode. Not impossible, but not as easy.
