I totally agree with the kylem56 post. This is critical...show those practice video's to the kids, and be honest with them. If they aren't doing things right in practice, don't expect them to suddenly turn the corner on game day.
What you tolerate you encourage!!

When there is a complete collapse in an established program, it is rarely the X's and O's. It is more likely that major changes have occured somewhere. Look around...Administration changes? Funding changes? Schedule changes? Has the true Quality of your Players changed? New Coaches? etc.

Agree with the others...the best kid plays. Question: If the backup (senior #2) is this good, why isn't he starting at another position?

My belief has always been much like stated above regarding playing the best players available, regardless of seniority. However, if two players are equal, and one of them is a senior, I start the senior. I firmly believe that I owe it to the kid that has more time invested in the program to start him over the underclassman.

An Albert Einstein quote that I recently read may be applicable to this thread: "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."
Something to think about as we analyze our football stats.

Why would you take a job where you knew that you had absolutely no say regarding who was on your coaching staff? Then you wouldn't work around here. Hence the part of the OP that "coaches don't grow on trees around here". Duece You are correct Coach, I probably would not work around there.

Most schools in Florida offer this type of class. If the head football coach isn't the designated instructor, he is present in the weight room, etc.

I would suggest that you not limit your search to guys. Some of the best mgrs. that we have had over the years have been girls.

The Basics for Offense are: 1. Know When...Snap Count 2. Know Who/Where...Scheme 3. Know How...Fundamentals
On Defense: 1. It all centers around knowing How...Fundamentals

Wolverine55, Does the IHSAA help maintain traditional rivalries if the rivals would happen to be in different Districts or different Classes?

As has been stated...teams can be ultra successful with either a dominant rush first offense or a dominant pass first offense. However, without a dominant defense, teams will struggle to win consistently.

Make a cut-up of all of your fumbles during the past season. Then form your own opinion of why it is happening.

I have been doing this for a lot of years and I tend to agree with coachsmyly. Most fumbles happen at the end of runs, etc. Nearly all fumbles could be prevented by simply covering the ball with both hands/arms at the end of the run...this is coached skill.

If there is anyone on this board that played for Coach Gagliardi at St. John's in MN...I would love to hear about their very unique Pre-game warm-up.
I saw them play once in an NCAA D-III play-off game...and was fascinated by their pre-game routine.

Another way to look at this situation...this is a great opportunity for some of the other guys on your squad to develop, and display their skills. Which, in the long run, is probably much more important than YOUR undefeated season. You have a HFC that is in charge of the football program at your school. If you have questions about the program, talk to the man that is in charge. Demonstrate some loyalty to your kids and do your job coach. Look at it this way also...The undefeated season isn't just HIS undefeated season. It's the ENTIRE Freshmen team's undefeated season which includes every freshmen and every coach involved. This team has worked hard all season to be undefeated then all of a sudden to deicimate it mid season? If I was a freshmen player I'd be a little upset over this. The OP's post references "My team"...enough said!!!

Are you running your offense, or the HC's offense? Don't you and the HC ever meet to discuss game plans and practice plans?
Sounds like there are some serious teamwork and trust issues going on in this program!! I wonder why?

If you are having success using an 'Extreme' system, and you play in a conference/district vs. good coaches, they will inevitably come up with something that will slow you down (and eventually stop you) if you do not adjust. It does not make any difference what your system is...people will collaborate, and devise methods to stop you if you remain status-quo.
The offense that Coach Mumme put together was outstanding. Other coaches have bought-in to his style of play, and have added to it. Coach Mumme's offense (what ever you want to call it) is still effective today because it did not remain status-quo.

I like your organizational ideas. As a follow up to my previous question...how many coaches and how many players in your program? I am trying to get a handle on the player/coach ratio in your indy groups, etc. i.e. how many OL coaches, etc.
