Two seniors.
Senior 1, The normal starter, a team captain who works very hard, listen's to coaching, but unfortunately missed the last two games with a concussion. Talented player, and clearly the better of the two. Had a whole week of practice, has been cleared by the doctor and is ready to go.
Senior 2, the backup, not as talented, but works hard and hasn't done anything to lose the job while filling in and also listen's to coaching. The truth is he is not as good as the captain, not even close. He doesn't make many assignment mistakes, but he is not capable of making plays like the captain can who also doesn't make many mistakes.
I think the answer is very clear cut about who should start this game, but one of the coaches thinks otherwise and wants to play the other kid. Who would you start?

The more talented captain and original starter. It isn't like he sat out on a mildly sprained ankle. Diagnosed concussions are legit injuries.

The better player practiced this week? Did he beat him out? Sounds like he did. How is this even a question?

But I'm so miffed that the backup is starting I had to see if any one else would start the back up in this situation. Once the header finds out tomorrow I'm 100% sure that the better player will be starting tomorrow. It's like the position coach has decided that the kid has lost his starting job due to an injury, which should only happen if the backup outperforms him(which he has not).

Agree with the others...the best kid plays. Question: If the backup (senior #2) is this good, why isn't he starting at another position?

yep start the captain but coach up the back up he may be right back in there. I am not saying the capt will get hurt but we all know anything can happen and it is sure nice to have a backup kid ready to fill in and he has a few games under his belt.

Is the position coach one of those Neaderthals who think that a concussion isn't a real injury?

What's his reasoning behind it? And I understand he is the QB coach, but when it comes to the QB depth chart thats up to the HC to say who the starter is. So when you say the back up is starting, do you mean That's the positional coaches recommendation or the kid is definitely starting? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards

thats up to the HC to say who the starter is.
I don't agree with that unless the HC is the OC. The OC is the one calling the plays and forming the game plan, unless the HC is integral to that he should let the OC start the QB he feels will best carry out that plan.

When it's a situation like this, and the OP is telling us the whole story, then this coach is inept and the HC should absolutely step in here. And unless the HC is a defensive guy only he should be able to say who is starting. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using proboards

the original poster said position coach, not Offensive coordinator. That is the guy that should make the call. There are many HC that really are not in tuned with the offense or the defense!

The players are not Qb's. Not sure where that confusion started. They are defensive players.
