the "different shirt/hat" for the signaler is a little overrated, to be honest. no kidding we went all signals no wristbands this year and had fewer busts with that than with wristbands and this was with much much less disciplined kids signaling all of it in is the way to go by far will never go back to wristbands or just sending a kid into a huddle i can vary the tempo from breakneck speed to kill the clock speed just by when i send in the play from the sideline now it aint hard and different shirts/gloves/hats etc were not needed our main signaller this year was about 4'11" and did a great job with it the kids didn't have any problem finding him he did have to learn where to stand for the whole offense to see him but that didn't take long for him or our kids to figure out

How many of you coordinators out there wear a different color shirt or jacket on the sideline so that your players can see you? i wear a 5xlt or 6xlt so i generally don't get the latest fashions when on the sidelines i tell the two signallers what to signal in anyhow they didn't wear anything different we just wore the opposite color of the team that night as a whole staff

Slow playing the dive is great. And serves exactly the purpose but slow playing the pitch man is a huge mistake. Did you really see the slow playing of the pitch slow up the GT offense at all? The QB is just giong to press the pitch man who will eventually have to comit to him then pitch it when the WB has a full head of steam. It doesn't slow the offense down one iota. You want that WB getting the pitch as he is still moving horizontally to the LOS. you also want to force bad pitches by putting the pressure on the qb you also want to knock the qb silly as many times as possible

So we've talked about how hard it is to stop this offense, how do you guys stop it, or how would you approach stopping it? 2. Always force the pitch but force it quick. Don't slow play it like Georgia did. Force the pitch while the QB is still on the LOS and the WB hasn't turned up field yet. If you force it when the WB has a full head of steam and has had plenty of time to see the field and pick his lane then you are in for a world of hurt. this is the key

to me it looks like from the behind view that welker was between the ball and the defender
the defender was looking for the big hit and didn't see if the ball was cuaght/whatever
i think it was just flagged because it looked bad

Those 15 players that do show up have told you that they are willing to do what you ask. They are also going to be your leaders. Let THEM come up with a way to allow the others to rejoin the team - the 2009 season isn't here yet so figure out how to "Restore" these young men. If there's make up work involved then let them choose - they either want to be on the team or they don't. If they truly "can't" make a morning / afternoon session - some kids don't have a car - then try to figure out a win-win solution. wise advice build up some pride in the ones that do show up and then don't cut off your nose to spite your face let those kids find a way to bring back the others that simply made a poor choice versus the plain lazy

The key is do you really need firearms in safe legit places? . nowhere is "safe" and places where firearms are not allowed are giant targets for nutjobs that don't care about the legality of being able to carry there or not

Wow for a board that is very very very politically conservative there are a lot of people here hating on his constitutionally protected right to carry a firearm. unreal aint it? now let's focus on the football aspect of this would you want plax on your team? skips out on meetings just becuase he knows he isn't going to play? after all the other crap he has pulled? i would trade him for best value or just cut him

I disagree with anyone defending Burress from carrying a gun. Inexcusable. If you go somewhere, and you're afraid of getting shot and killed...the answer is don't go there. Period. i wish we could all carry legally if we wanted to and without paperwork like the 2nd says we can ---shall not be infringed but come on plax is a Dummazzz

sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3733021Wow, not at the team walkthrough or team meetings because he is not playing this week? I think the team would be better off with him mentoring the younger players and being there for game planning instead of shooting himself at a club. i think the team would be better off with him not on the team

orr
i look at it like this
there are three things you can do when undermanned
1. throw it around a lot 2. wing-t misdirection/jet/etc 3. option
if i had a line like that i would find out what they did best and then find out what the skill kids around them did best and tailor the offense around that
power I gun offense nor power I undercenter would be the first of my choices from the info provided

it depends on what your kids need
this year i (an oc) started out in the box
after a few games we (the hc and i ) came to the conclusion that our issues were not x and o's they were things that I would be able to address and solve on the sideline

i think the nfl will see that the kid is a football player and draft him regardless
you are right in that a lot of the kids out there might not choose to but i bet the ones that do are special and really are tough nosed football players that the nfl will appreciate

they did but i would imagine that there are many ballcarriers that want to tote the rock and be THE man
whether they turn into fullbacks or running backs in the nfl? they probably expect to be used as running backs just like the guy at gt now
he will be good in the nfl
either way
if pj gets the 6'2 240 kids he has had at fb that can jam it up in there and maybe not take it to the house then they will still be fine

coachmacplains.. a flexbone fullback is a non existent commodity in the NFL. NFL backs are either running backs, or small fast guards. disagree earl campbell shaun alexander duckett any of the bigger backs, and some of the shorter squatty backs would be great pro style backs AND great fullbacks in the flexbone the easiest place to see this is the back that GT has now he was a pro style tailback but is obviously flourishing in the flexbone

I just finished my second season as head coach in a program that has struggled offensively for a few years. I was the defensive coordinator prior to being the head coach. I think I have found someone that would do a good job with the defense and am looking for some advice on offense. I need to get the kids excited about offense and am considering changing things like terminology. I am looking for some experienced advise. ask that in a different thread on the general board there will be some great ideas to think about welcome to the board

we signaled everything to all the players on offense we generally got the snap off at around 21 seconds or so
we milked it sometimes but most of the time i had it in my head what i wanted as soon as i got the d+d info
all signals is pretty dang easy
i will NEVER go back to wristbands

Isn't power basically veer on the frontside?? another reason we use veer with the combo concepts taught from our zone--it gives us power as well

One thing that made me chuckle this month was that they had linebacker drills from the Washington universities linebacker coach. WAshington is 0-10 and giving up like 40 some points a game. Why do I want drills from them!? i guess you have never been or coached with a team with a less than stellar record but had good coaching?

to me
being modular is having a system that is flexible to enough to take advantage of the talent that you have
with this you have to have basic principles to base on and these need to be grounded in simplicity
the rest of it--plays, tags, motions, sets, run/pass ratio
all that is smoke and mirrors to maximize the effectiveness of where you have taken the offense that year

plus anything with only a 5 man surface makes it easier as well---only so many looks you can get vs that
throw a te or a te and a wing in there and you have multiplied the gozintas a ton
