SC had the problem a few years ago of kids being offered and then the university told them they wouldn't get in like two weeks before they were to enroll. They had the grades and test scores, but they were turned away. When Spurrier first came here he took some schlorships away from players which caused an uproar with some hs coaches in the state. From what I hear here in SC, the only reason they were after this kid was Ron Cooper wanted him and when Cooper left they told him he no longer had an offer. Sounds like Spurrier needs to put down the golf clubs and know what is going on with his program. If not that, then it shows very poor character on Spurrier's part.

I don't like it when kids get screwed over. It needs to be exposed.

Spurrier says that he doesn't have a qb that can run his offense yet.. I never liked this excuse. Adapt, do something different, find something to give your kids a chance.

ryse that's a good idea we try to sticky some of those kind of posts in the correct forum for people to see
maybe we should just make a couple of more sticky threads of some of the best discussions here

the custodial staff at our school is so undermanned/overworked that we send our kids out routinely to clean up the campus

simply this: and it is something our current generations have SOOOOOOOOO much trouble with
bad stuff happens
what are you going to do about it?
modern society teaches them to quit, or to allow the government to fix it, or to just release the blame on something/someone else
in all reality all kids know
coach it was my fault
ok
what can you do?
1. 2. 3.
then do it

Seems to me all the TV announcers talk about is the Jimmies and Joes when handicapping Bowl games. My American coaching buddies,on the other hand, seem to talk about coach vs coach matchups.the more i think about it coaching does seem to be a huge factor in the Bowls.possibly because of the longer prep time?nice to know we are somewhat important sometimes. i've always looked at conferences and their relative strengths when handicapping games but i'm intrigued by the coaching mismatches.Anybody see any obvious ones??such as last years SUPER BOWL with NYG's DC mauling NE's OC. i don't think it was the dc mauling the oc as much as it was the dl mauling the ol the giant dl was just better than the patriots ol

hey, some times my running back plays with a "rage" and "intensity" and gets "pissed off" ... and slamming that ball down as hard as he can on the ground just his was of showing that "rage". same thing when the qb throws a bad ball in practice -- he should slam his helmet down to liven up the place with his intensity... those aren't intensity or playing close to a rage issues those are "i am fwustwated and want everwewone to see it" issues man vs man stuff that gets out of hand once in a while is a good thing--not the pretty boy hiphop attitude crap like you mentioned stuff happens, no doubt, but nip it safely/quickly as you can, address it, and move on to PRACTICING ... agree

This is really out there I think but I would like to see a podcast area. A place where I could download a video and/or stream it to my computer. I am a member of a couple of sights that do this but ones dedicated to the double wing and the other is mostly 2 or 3 minutes of drills. Both of these are very good but with all the resources we have here I think that having someone do a powerpoint discussing the ins and outs of their systems with commentary and video would be great. I participated in the Glazier Webinars last spring and gained a lot of information while sitting at my desk at home. i am far from being a luddite but why in the hell would i want to watch the jhanawa counter gt triple option off of jet/orbit motion over and over and over on my ipod? i love jahanwa but i get it after the first two or three showings ummkay? yall need to ask huey about the podcast stuff and what it means for $$$ huey runs this place on a teaching/coaching salary---he is not a bojillionaire, so for things to be added---it costs money

I tell our kids all the time
have you ever been in a fight?
yeah coach
well
play like that, except tone it down just enough to know what your assignment is and to not get out of control
i loved playing as close to a rage as I could get
my opponents did not like it

I think fighting at practice is overrated. I think it shows/breeds immaturity and lack of control more than it is a product of intensity- and I know on my team those are things that we don't have time to practice. You can be uber-intense without being out of control...we really shouldn't condone fighting to solve problems to kids anyway...these youngins are so quick to pull a gun in retaliation over stupid $hit like fighting over girls, shoes, rims, & namecalling... It's in-grained in my kids' culture of poverty- fighting is a means to solve problems. That a law of the jungle, not of society! We need to reinforce the proper values in kids, and condoning fighting is not helping the teach that kid how to be a man. Hell, most of the kids that always want to fight are the ones that don't know how/don't have the balls to let their pads do the talking. I expect kids to get after each other in drills, but get back to that huddle after the play. They need to practice self-control- if you get suspended for throwing a punch in a game you most likely will have to wait until next season to play again. As long as it happens from whistle to whistle I'm fine with it...I expect my olinemen to try to pancake b/tch-a$$ dlinemen if they puss out at practice...even if it takes a second or two after the whistle. Be a D!ck all you want during the play...but leave it between the lines. and this never spills out into a fight? a tussle perhaps?

Anyone who is employed by a school has the responsibility to put a stop to the fight. Period. It is a school event, school grounds, student athletes. You can get yourself fired allowing a fight to go on. One soccer moms letter to the Newspaper or supers office and youre going to be coaching girls volleyball. That does not mean we do not get kids to that intensity level, we just do not allow them to beat on each other. "save it" Just because a fight every now and then is a good probelm doesn't mean that anyone condones it lasting. We break em up when it needs to be.

if there isn't a fight every once in a while then the intensity at practice isn't where i like it
plus
i would rather they step over that line of intensity into rage during practice than during a game
then use it as a teaching tool to teach them to recognize the difference between intense and rage

how about if people just put it in their siglines?
kinda like the introduce yourself thread-but all the time
either there or in avatar area
just type it in
the problem with this is a ton of people on here know more than just what they are running at the moment
so
tog---power i coach---doesn't really sum it up

we have quite a few that do powerlifting and wrestling
then they go run track or play baseball
no problem with it as long as they are still working on becoming better athletes and they are competing
then that isn't bad for football

Post by tog on Dec 12, 2008 9:57:09 GMT -6
that would be the run game section
ask away in there
as for specific drills/techniques
that is in the offensive drills section
ask away in there
we are not going to divide the forums into every possible category--it makes things too hard to find and keeps the learning/sharing/discussion buffered by the categories itself
we want it to have some sense of organization---but we also want it loose enough that people can talk about stuff in the realm of that specific forum

Just saw where the brownwood HC job is open. Anyone know what happened to Freeman? this is a national/global message board for those of you that don't know brownwood high school in texas is open it is the school where gordon wood coached I haven't heard what the situation is. I have always heard good things about Coach Freeman though, so I hope it was his decision and wish him the best of luck.
