Most of the time as OL coach I use pre practice time to go over assignments against fronts and stunts we expect to see so that I do not have to take Indy time to do so. Will go over any things we had problem with in previous game or practice. If there is a pressing drill we need to work that we haven't had time to do I will do that but that's pretty rare.

I have a daughter who 4 but has been able to get in a 3 point stance for a couple years. She loves to put on a princess dress get down in here stance and yell. Hut! Hut! Hut! Before running full speed and tackling me or her mother and yelling dog tackle! As she pounces on you (our school nickname is the bulldogs). Still needs some work on wrapping up but not bad for a girl!

I try to just watch as absent mindedly as possible. Thanks to dvr anytime something catches my eye I can rewind it as often as possible. When I attend games live I find myself studying scheme and trying to figure out game plan and strategies a lot more than when watching on tv.

Document their lack of work in the weight room so that when you kick them out you have documentation to take to the AD/Super who appears to be a problem in his own right by your comments.

I just finished my 11th year, but at 32 years old still considered myself a young guy, until a guy that I coached my first two years joined the staff. That made me feel old fast.

We had a kid in a JV game get called for a penalty for wearing his knee pads above his knees. However, not really his fault because at 6 feet 6 inches tall, his pants werent long enough to reach his knees.

Alot like everyone else: Monday-shorts and shoulder pads go around 2 hrs or maybe a little less. Alot of teaching, walking, and talking. Team film after practice. Tues and Wed. Full pads fast tempo. Around 2 and a half hours. OL film after practice. Team film during weights class. Thur-Helmets and walkthrough about an hour and a half. Friday Play

If I were an OC and already considered myself comfortable in the passing games, I would begin studying OL play and blocking schemes and fundamentals for both run and pass. I would also begin to study defensive structures. By learning the defense you will know where each defense is strong, but also where each defense is weak.

You mean there are places where coaches are not expected to go work on football when their planning time starts? I am not even a HC and it is well known that if you need me after 100 you better call the fieldhouse.

You take your family picture for your Christmas card at the stadium before pregame warmups because its the only time you have to do it.

When I explained to her after the 3rd date, that I was, and always would be a football coach, my career goal was to be a HFC, how much time I was going to be putting in at different times of the year, and if she couldnt handle that, than we need not go out again. I will keep her response that night to myself!

I second give the kids a day off, especially if you can find a far inferior opponent to do it against. Our Mondays amount to film and not much more than a walk through, so we gave our kids this past Monday off before playing a 0-8 team. We came out on fire and won 56-0, could have been worse, but our kids were talking about how much better there legs felt this week.
Also, if you lift during the season, you might want to cut back on the weight and reps some to help save some energy.

Last home game of the year, before the game, often has been the conference championship game. Never been a huge problem for us, but if a kid and his parents give you 4 years, I think you owe it to them.

Fatz sponsors our pregame meal. Grilled chicken strips, mashed potatos, green beans. Then for dessert a big ole dip of grizzly.

I dont think what your doing isnt a bad idea. After the BOB period gets them up to speed work to keep them at that tempo and push your younger scout team kids to go hard to give you a good look. The only other thing you could do is use your 1 D to play on the scout team.

We had our first one this morning. It was really a "practice" with another team. We started off doing both teams in offensive individual, then we went to inside run vs each other with WR vs DB's doing 1 on 1's. Then we went 7 on 7 against each other and OL/DL went 1 on 1 pass rush. Then we went scrimmage 10 O/10 minutes D. Then we went live goalline situations before ending with a little bit on live game situations.

Less about what to do (offensive and defensive schemes) and more about how to do it.

I used to cut the grass and take care of our fields at the school before the days of budget cuts. Made about 1500 for the summer. Now I take my kid out of daycare for the summer, saves about 1500, so it works out!

After school we eat pregame meal. Then we give them about 20 minutes to get down to the fieldhouse and use the bathroom. Then we do a little stretch/meditation routine. Depending on whether its home or away, we either load the bus or the kids start to dress. (we have everything laid out in their lockers). They have a little "quiet" time on there own. First the kickers, QB/WR THAT PLAY/and RB go out and throw some routes, nice and easy. Then the linemen and skill kids that dont play much go out and we dynamic warmup. Then we go Offensive groups for 5, defensive groups for 5, Team O and Team D. We come back in and do special teams check off and go ready to play.

That is something that doesnt happend much around here. We have a couple of teachers at the middle school that coach in the high school and vice versa but not someone who coaches at a rival school in the county and teaches here.

One point about combating specialization.... if as football coaches we dont want our kids to specialize in basketball or baseball, we cannot ask them to specialize in football. Often times, I hear football coaches complaining about kids that only play basketball or baseball, but then expect their football players to specialize in football. If we dont want specialization we have to be willing to let our kids play other sports too, and find a way to work around their in season schedule to get them in the weight room etc....

About 30 minutes. Can be 35 or so, depending on how I hit the two red lights I pass through. Mostly rural two lane roads. 22.9 miles one way.

Asst. coach here-I have my planning period during one of our wt. training classes. I spend time in that class each day-at least to show my face and check on my position players. Some days I spend the entire period in there. We do after school wt. training for middle schoolers, and I am there each day as well. As someone said-I believe that if you want the kids to come, you have to be there and support it as well. Furthermore, in my opinion if the HC has to be there, than I need to be there as well.

Ok-not a weatherman so I dont remember which one is worse, a tornado warning or a tornado watch. If we had whichever of these is less, we would not cancel anything, but we do have a plan on what to do with the kids if we are caught in whichever one of these is worse.
