when they did our field a few years ago, there was a good amount of turf left over. It is stored under the bleachers right now. I have been begging our admin to let me glue it down in an empty portable classroom (no one uses the room next to me) to have an indoor training area
I found some adhesives designed to glue field turf down onto hard surfaces
I just haven't been able to get the greenlight from them

technique/schematic issue... should come from his position coach, coordinator, or head coach
if it is an effort issue... then i think it is fair game for anyone on staff to get on him

Yes overall seems there are less speakers/topics per time block I think the breaks between sessions are too long... i know it gives guys time to see vendors, speakers a chance to catch their breath and get a drink but still it seems to be a bit too long... 10 minutes between sessions or something Last night was weird kicking it off with short 25 minute sessions My clinic notes are updated on www.coachbdud.com/2018-sf-glazier-notes/I am done for the weekend Still excited for Reno trip just because Coverdale is there and worst case scenario i will turn it into a social event

I have a parent applying to coach on our staff. He has solid football background and has coached successfully at the youth level. He is not a teacher by profession and strongly desires to get involved in coaching high school football now that his youngest is coming to high school. Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice on the matter? when i got to our school it was home of the daddy ball we had a lot it caused some ... issues those kids graduated and we weened them out and we have a few dad coaches but we made a policy of not letting them coach their own kids for example we have a great guy who coaches JV because his son and nephew are on our varsity team we had a frosh coach who had a son on varsity a JV coach with a brother on varsity if they are a good guy they should be allowed in the program but i think not having them on the same level as their kid is best... if you can't do that then avoid having them be the position coach of their kid

Overall I'm great Did football and baseball through HS and never had an injury
Most that happens now is my lower back will get a little tight some times after a real hard leg day or dead lift day... pretty normal. I am relatively young compared to my peers
Our HC basically has only one knee Tore his ACL in semi pro... got it fixed, but actually blew it all out about a year ago There's like nothing there and he now has bone on bone action going on
He needs a knee replacement but they wont do it yet (he is too young) He is doing a bit better now than he was in the fall but man i felt bad for him during the season... he was in obvious pain all the time and it really limited his movement

Just starting up the annual thread for the SF Bay Area Glazier (in Concord)
Who is going ? Who do you want to see speak?
I will be there Friday night and all day Saturday
I havent really looked at the speaker list yet
I always enjoy getting to meet people from this site
I will be the short guy with a beard and comb over, scribbling in his rocketbook like a damn Millennial

In the past we have been OK with it as long as BOTH HCs are ok with it
It has always been a kid who did a spring sport AND track
Our meets are wednesdays here... so when i have seen it work the arrangement is set up a schedule to get both practices in on Monday and Friday ... usually practice team sport first (baseball or volleyball) and then do your individual track event practice after
baseball and volleyball games are tuesday/thursday so just play those
wednesday is track meets so just do that
The best VB player in our school is also an excellent hurdler (he is my TA... will play VB in college but could possibly go to state in hurdles)
we also have a JV baseball player who is the best natural high jumper i have ever seen he will high jump for varsity track and play JV baseball ... the HCs are currently working out their practice schedules for the kids to try to make it work but in the past it hasnt been too much of an issue

If you have someone else on staff who you trust to coach his position (as you of course oversee everything as the HC) then i think it helps
Not saying you would display favoritism or anything, more so to take away that argument from outsiders to come in and bash the situation
some guys handle the situation well and it all works out, some dont
i dont have ay kids but i did coach my younger brother... i was probably TOO hard on him and ended up driving him away from playing football all together

I understand your feelings
I feel as though clinics have become a little "watered down"
-feels like every speaker is talking 4-2-5 or spread RPOs
Plus as you learn more you feel you are just hearing the same info said over and over in different ways
When i started coaching clinics were amazing to me, i learned SO MUCH. the online community, twitter, etc has really helped most of us learn year round not just clinic season
A couple years ago i started looking at clinics differently... you cant learn a new offense or defense at a clinic i go into each speaker's session trying to learn 1 thing
not 1 play necessarily... one THING could be a coaching cue one wrinkle one adjustment one drill
heck even one good story
if i learn one thing, then it made me a better coach
getting confirmation of something you are already teaching is helpful as well

i dont think you can bring a video camera or audio recorder in to the session
i have used my ipad a ton in the past and many guys will use their iphone/ipad to take a quick pic of a slide/diagram
I have never seen anyone complain about it
when i have done ipad notes it is really easy to take a pic of play diagram and embed it within the notes

I will second get breakfast somewhere and make it reasonably healthy
when i go to clinics i figure i might pig out on dinner... maybe get a burger for lunch but i try to keep breakfast relatively clean
also a big fan of buying your own snacks and bringing them with you maybe a protein bar or something if you get hungry during a session but its between breaks
i usually keep a 5 hour energy on me just in case or you could just get coffee but often times those hotel starbucks lines get PACKED

no food
Glazier is great because of the scale in the industry they control
They have a lot of clinics, they have a lot of speakers They have a lot of stuff int he online vault
you cant beat the value in that for 479 your ENTIRE staff gets access to EVERYTHING
The speakers dont always incredibly go in depth but some do
you are on your own for food/drinks
Lots of vendors the first night and half of the saturday... they all tend to pack it up saturday evening
You can always tell who the diehards are because they are still there sunday morning til it ends

the D@MN millenials did it I like using Vs to represent DL I never draw Xs for players except our X WR I use Letters that better correspond to their position (T for Tackle, E for end, N for Nose, etc.) or if i am lazy i just do a quick V to mark DL alignments i agree on your point about shading... point of the V is easier to line up than a whole letter Aren’t you in your early 30s like me? If so that makes your post all the more funny as we both are just on the edge of being millennials! I am desperately clinging to my 20s... i turn 30 in April. I like to call everyone millennials... especially if they are significantly older than me It confuses them and they don't realize i am being sarcastic.

Just curious, but does anybody know why coaches switched from using Vs to represent defensive players to Xs in diagrams? Looking through old playbooks and I like the Vs better. It's easier to tell shades and tilted players. the D@MN millenials did it I like using Vs to represent DL I never draw Xs for players except our X WR I use Letters that better correspond to their position (T for Tackle, E for end, N for Nose, etc.) or if i am lazy i just do a quick V to mark DL alignments i agree on your point about shading... point of the V is easier to line up than a whole letter

Our school has been trying to go to it
problem is no one wants to come up with the money/prizes to reward kids
we went all technology based with a cell phone app system this year (we used these little tickets last year)
no one uses it

When you guys go, where do you eat? Was thinking about trying out that Lazy Dog restaurant across the street in the shopping center. I'm not a huge Lazy Dog fan It is so so but i am biased, i loved the el torito that was in that location I have been there a few times and the wait and service has sucked every time I think the burgers at Fuddruckers across the street are much better, but they dont have the alcohol/apps/menu size of a Lazy Dog

I've seen one kid in my five years at my current job wear a lettermen's jacket...I wish that pride would come back to where more kids had them/wanted them. times have changed they aren't seen as being "cool" anymore a few football kids get them but ehh im not a fan and i dont have an answer why I remember in HS my parents wanted to get me one for christmas one year, i politely declined... just never been in to them

our school doesnt sell letterman jackets, kids just buy them on their own and our school gives them the patches
Most kids get the new kind but we had a kid 5 years ago, real throwback player, that found the old school sweater style one online somewhere and ordered it it looked pretty awesome

kids wash their own stuff
we do have a washing machine here in the PE dept so if a kid doesnt have access to a washing machine and they come talk to me i will wash their stuff for them.
At the end of the year when we collect their stuff our HC washes all the stuff before putting it away... he works for a big chem company and they have MASSIVE washers there that can do like 10 loads at a time

I know that it has been mentioned on here that some districts don't always count teaching experience from another state count in setting the pay scale for teachers new to the districts, but it go me wondering.... 1- How many of you guys work in a district where they have step increases for coaching stipends? ----> IE coaching experience 0-4 years = $100, 4-8 = $110, 8-12 = $120, 12+ = $130 1a- How flexible/inflexible is the district is setting these steps? ----> IE Allowing/Not allowing the 3 years you coached baseball before you become a football coach count as coaching experience 1b- Does the district allowing experience from another district and/or state be counted in that total? 2- For those that have steps, how many also differentiate between AC experience and HC experience? ----> IE Does the district allow/not allow the 8 years of AC experience count when you become a HC in year 9? none of the districts around here do anymore but one used to... the district where i grew up, went to school, and began coaching I know this because a guy i coached with had been coaching in the district for a pretty long time (wasn't all that old but started really young) He bounced around between the 6 high schools in the district for coaching (multiple sports) but he had been in it so long he was "grandfathered in". He didnt say by how much, but i guess the old system your salary went up every year you coached in the district. He would just always go somewhere within the district to get a stipend. He made over double what our HC made. He would also usually coach 3 sports a year.

if a college is gonna "miss' on a recruit... they cant miss small... that gets them fired I wonder how long until people start to follow the Patriots model in college and have success...realizing that (holy crap!) you can build a good team around a great quarterback and then a whole lot of role players who are willing to work hard running backs don't matter, go cheap....lots of guys out there who can run fast with the football WR's don't have to be unbelievable - get a bunch of good route runners with good hands, great QB will throw them open get the best interior defensive lineman you can find ....win a lot this wont happen because there isn't a salary cap in NCAA the patriots have to do that because you can't pay everyone in the NFL... you have to pick and choose WHERE to invest in college there are the MAJOR programs, and every one else... Alabama, Ohio State, etc. are gonna get the best player's in the country PERIOD the top teams dont need to just get by they take all the 4 and 5 star kids why "go cheap" at RB when you dont have to
