i think it is stupid, no offense
the season is already TOO LONG
there is no longer an off season, football has become year round for every team that is any good here
this would make the season go on to january or february lol
I think we push to much as coaches (myself included)
as the kids would say, " we be doin the most"

some times you just dont have a kicker who is very good... you pooch it to make them have to fair catch it and prevent them from getting a big return to spark them into a score before half
catch the ball instead of complaining

I'm curious as to what you folks allow as far as your players wearing (or not wearing) shirts. At my old school, where I was the HC, it was school policy that boys were not allowed to go without shirts outside the locker room. So obviously I didn't permit it. At my current school, where I am the DC, we look like we're at the beach during 7th period. Several players always walking around outside the field house w/o shirts. With two vastly different approaches at my current and previous schools, I am curious as to how it works elsewhere. no one really cares here is it against the rules... probably, but our school doesn't really enforce rules so no one says/does anything super common for boys to go shirtless in the PE area... not just football kids or my students do the football kids do it the most? sure around practice half the team has no shirt on... doesnt matter, buff, annorexic, obese... to me it is one of those things that it is only a big deal when someone makes it a big deal if another student feels uncomfortable you gotta tighten down if an administrator doesnt like it, you gotta tighten down

I meant take a large jersey with an ineligible number and sew on different numbers, even just swapping the first digit. Of course if they're printed numbers you're SOL. Yeah. I thought about that, as well. The numbers are printed, not sewn. With that being said, I wonder if there is some way to remove the printed number and put on another number. sew on a Patch OVER the printed on number on each side that would be pretty easy i think

or, cut a jersey down the side seams and add some fabric to it That's kind of what I was thinking. Maybe a tailor could do something like that. Not sure if our HFC would go for something like that, though. i think just a team mom with some scissors and a sewing machine could frankesntein it up and make it work

Run Through
dont let them talk, just call plays and make them go fast
tell Defense to take first 2 steps and then shut it down
i dont think kids can handle "walk thru"
too many opportunities to talk to each other/screw around

just finished season 2.
1. I got the vibe in season 1 that Ms. Wagner was getting plowed by half the team -Watching season 2 i get the feeling that she thought that after watching it herself on TV, and seemed to distance herself some from them this year. Maybe i am weird.
2. The whole deal with the OC in last game seems like a set up. 1 of 2 things... either total set up for fake drama for TV... or That QB coach Trickett set the whole thing up. He popped up and smiled SUPER FAST when buddy got pissed at the OC. Like way too fast for it to be a normal reaction. If it wasnt a TV set up, then my theory is Trickett had been in Buddy's ear for awhile saying OC was undermining him (hinting OC wants to take over as HC). My theory is he undermined the underminer to get to take over.
3. There is like zero coaching that actually happens in the whole series. The only thing they ever say is they need to play harder or simply "want it more"

if there is anyway you can get a sample of each size and then have your kids try them on to have a rough idea of what to order them

How do you folks prioritize your players as far as playing offense, defense, or both? My approach is that unless you have an offensive player that you can't do without - such as a QB or a hoss RB who's going to get a ton of carries - that defense has priority over personnel. The player may play both ways, but if it's one or the other it's definitely defense. I say this because the offense chooses the point of attack and any talent deficiencies are more easily exploited on the defensive side of the ball for that reason. What we do, and what i believe in is you have to have your best on Defense just like you my exceptions are starting Qb (ours would easily be our best FS this year) and a Stud RB (even then, our guy played a lot of defense in the playoffs because he wanted to win) This is especially true at OL/DL every now and then we have a kid who is a stud and does both but for the most part, the last few years I have given our most talented kids to our DL coach and i play OL with the island of misfit toys. This year will be a little different in that our numbers are lower (we are better up front, just less bodies) so realistically ALL of them are going to have to at least be able to play at least a drive a game on both sides of the ball My personal feelings have always been that with less talent on O worst case scenario we punt and can play field position/defense worse talent in on D and we give up a TD. Us scoring 0 is better than them scoring 7. I feel we can still be successful with lesser parts on O, but we NEED our best kids in on D to get stops

I am an admitted shoe {censored} but i dont think you can just wear 1 pair of shoes
I like to rotate my shoes
I literally never wear the same pair of shoes back to back days unless I am out of town and i am traveling light
I feel like my feet feel better whenever i change shoes just because each shoe is different, even ones that are the same shoe different color scheme
In the summer (not teaching) I will often wear one pair in the morning when i lift and just hang out and then change into a different pair before i go to practice

it's not that you can't yell at kids anymore... it is that parents dont want you to yell at your kids anymore
parents have evolved from "yeah rip little johnny, he needs to work" to "you can't talk to my son like that"
also you have every parent, trainer, and 7on7 coach telling them how good they are from age 5 on
the only one who is honest in all of it is the HS coach but all of the above think they know more than him

i think that is a great rule.
Why would you need multiple 7on7 tourneys/camps per week?
1 a week is more than enough.
I saw all those tweets last night and thought it was maybe limiting practice... if it doesnt change practice that sounds like a great move to me

away games we usually leave right after school
kids dont have time to leave and come back so they just go to the locker room during our last class period of the day and start getting their stuff together.
We get on bus with our bottoms on, and go to the game and to our taping and everything else there
Home games we give them a time they have to be back by.
Usually they need to be back at the start of the JV game (4:30) and at halftime of the JV game we all go up to locker room and start getting ready... if for some reason that game is going slow we make them start getting ready at about 5:30. A lot of kids are getting taped during that JV first half
We dont have a set feeding deal... i go to Winco the night before and buy a ton of big sandwiches pre made and cut them up i buy some pedialyte
i leave them in the locker room after school or in my office, they can eat it if they want or not... whichever works for them
we dont do any film or walk thru pre game BUT i am super intrigued by the idea of watching highlghts together pre game to boost confidence knowing theyve done this before

no field house
no coaches office
we are also weird in that there is no central PE office (most other schools in NorCal have one connected to boys locker room) there are 2 small offices that connect, but not one big central PE office... which is also weird because there is one on the girls side, just not boys side.
when i got hired full time there were no available offices in the PE area One of the portables was open (convenient location on blacktop near PE area)
i asked if i could use it as my office/Football meeting room... they said ok.
I taught health this year so i just used it as my classroom and my office.
having a football fieldhouse/office would be great but dont see it ever happening here

Found out yesterday that one of our players used to eat in the huddle during games. I don't mean that he used to sneak a Snickers on the bench, either. He used to tuck a lemon into his shoulder pads, peel it in the huddle, and eat it. Sometimes he didn't even peel it. This was the kid who quit on the day of our last game. Presumably, he was angry because, after he missed two practices because (I'm not making this up) he was acting as a costumed character at a haunted house, we benched him. That reminded me of a kid we had a few years ago. After he graduated we found out that he used to listen to music on the field during games. He'd taped an MP3 player under his thigh pads, ran wires up though his pads, and had ear buds in during games. So, does anybody have stories about kids who were particularly unusual? eating during a game... not weird to me eating a lemon... just in general... serial killer only a psycho would do that that kid has bodies buried in his backyard
