I saw today that California has closed their schools for the rest of the year and I know in the past few days that several other states had made the same announcement. For those of you coaching in one of those states, has your state association made any announcement on when you can have contact with your student athletes for sports again?
I read today that MLB is aiming for opening day being the 4th of July which would be cool for many reasons. I know this may depend on where you live and how hard your region was hit by the virus, but I have heard of one state association eyeing activities after the 4th of July as long as there is no "shelter in place" order still taking place. I don't want to get into a debate whether its right or wrong to return by then or what your opinion is on the feasibility of there being a 2020 season. I am just curious if any state associations have given any direction at this point after their state department of education has shut down in-person learning for the rest of the school year. take care and stay safe Technically CA hasnt shut down... but the governor and state superintendent have publicly recommended it... so it is just a matter of time before each district officially does it. Our district officially shut down for the rest of the year today... I knew it was coming for awhile. As of right now as I understand it, if there is no school then there are no sports/contact with the kids in person for workouts/practice. I have heard whispers of July 1st if we are lucky... but I think it makes sense to just make it after 4th of July weekend if that's the case. I am actually prepping for no practice til august, it will be old school 2 weeks of double days then you are playing a game. Buckle up.

Well our district announced we are done for the year. Entire state of CA will likely be doing the same. Anyway here is some stuff I started to put together for our PE department. A lot of it is workout/activity based then they can just email their teacher a little reflection for points. We can't penalize a kid, only raise their grade for doing any work. Anyway here is some stuff I threw together. Some of it will be visible, a lot of it is attachments of worksheets/written work at the bottom. I really like the 3 more visible things I made... The game recap, home workouts, and the google slide called Your Choice. A lot of them link to youtube videos where they follow along. Coachbdud.com/ahspe

How are teams handling or how are your Leagues/Districts, etc. expecting you to handle this for H/A teams? Ours wants 2 ball boys for each team...1 per sideline. Not sure I want a MS or JV kid alone on our opponents sideline but getting an adult is definitely out of the question. We have a hard enough time getting a chain crew. We were told to have 2 ball boys and 2 game balls if we want to have any sort of tempo One ball boy keeps a ball on him, if the ball in play goes somewhere, bounces to track, far downfield whatever Ball Boy B gives the ref the new ball, while ball boy A fetches the other one

Anyone have a good vendor for integrated girdles? Ideally 7 pad but we could make 5 pad work.

I am finally to the point where I can no longer deny that I need to be in large shirts rather than medium:(. What are some of you guys opinions on clothes you love to wear to practice? I wear nike shorts/sweats everyday... i am pretty good at finding deals online and when i see one that looks good i'll buy some. Shirt wise i probably wear 3 a day during the season 1. Gym shirt - one of my football team t shirts... i wear it to the gym and to teach my morning weights class. 2. Dri fit shirt - i wear mostly dri fit shirts, i wear a nike or FB team shirt when i change around 9-10 Am (been my prep the last 2 years). 3. I always wear a long sleeve shirt to practice... same thing, have a few nike ones, have a few team ones...id rather wear the long sleeve than put sunscreen on my arms everyday I have 2 kinds of shirts 1. Antioch HS ... where i coach, been here a decade... you tend to accumulate shirts ... i have shirts from multiple sports. 2. Nike... a ton from nike outlets, a ton on sale online i have worn a Medium since i was 21, i am 31 now... the Dri fit shirts hold up better than normal cotton t shirts so they last years... same thing, i accumulated a lot over the last decade, just got rid of about half of them when i moved, still have a closet full of them

just buy a laminator if it is 8.5x11 sheets you can't beat the amazon basics one i just got one the other day (my big one got stolen) $21 for the amazon basics laminator $11 for a pack of 100 laminating sheets I laminate everything coachbdud is this a durable product? Looking at 20-30 laminations per week based on call sheets and wristbands, want to be sure that the machine is capable of that workload as opposed to maybe 4-5 just on call shets. I've never used it for that volume in one setting If that is a concern you can get a nicer one. I got one at Sams for 80 a few years ago and it worked great

My wife and i just bought our first house. I got the OK to make one of our extra bedrooms my man cave/football room What would you include in an awesome football room ? Thinking L shaped desk in one corner, whiteboard in a wall, big TV on a wall Probably a futon in there somewhere so we could also use it as an extra guest bed if we need one Just looking for some cool ideas you guys have either done or seen somewhere If there's room how about a stationary bike or treadmill? I am currently leaning toward turning the garage into a home gym. 2 car garage but I have never parked inside in my life. Neither of us has actually... Weather is pretty good most of the time so thinking home gym and park in the driveway

Have a landline red phone, like the phone to call the President. Also get a foot massager. I would rather have multiple smaller screens than one big one. But if our teaching in Antioch still your probably making enough money to get both. lol are we talking about the same Antioch?

Don’t do the white board... Go with white board paint on a wall! I love it and would never do a white board again! It will cost you more money than a white board, but it is totally worth it. My kids also have an area on the wall they know they can go draw on, and I enjoy when they leave me pictures haha i have seen some guys do this, and actually have the white board paint on our wedding registry just curious as to why you think it is better than hanging a whiteboard on the wall?

coachbdud How do you organize your Google Drive to make sure you can find things easily? And is there a reason why you wouldn't use your Rocketbook for something to take notes on? When i am at a clinic i prefer to take notes on my iPad because it looks much neater, i have bad writing. Rocketbook is more of a speed thing where i am trying to jot stuff quickly as far as organization goes i am big into Subsets of folders for example FOOTBALL -Clinics -Film Notes -Playbooks and then i would probably have subfolders inside of those for example when i go to a clinic, i put all the notes from that clinic inside a folder so mine looks like Clinics---> 2019 SF Glazier --> then all the notes from it

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I've come to the realization that I have a ridiculous amount of coaching notes. By that I mean notes from clinics, videos, emails, the internet etc. I'm looking for the best way to organize all of them because right now they are all kind of scattered. Some of them are on my hard drive, some on Google Drive, some on Dropbox, etc. Does anyone have an organizational setup they really like? Thinking Google Drive would likely be the easiest but I don't know and wanted other's opinions. Even them what would be the best way to put them all in there, I'd have to have some sort of a folder system. I think scanning them into PDF and putting them into your google drive is best, especially if you ever want to share them with other coaches Everytime i take notes i either type them up on my ipad notes section and later send to my drive as a pdf or if it was something i would hand write i would use my rocketbook for the same thing

we set some parameters but they can go crazy within that and within the rules
the Refs here make them take off all the little small stupid bands pre game anyway so thats no big deal for us
We wear black accessories at home and white away
they can go short socks, long socks, tights, i dont really care but they just have to stay in the color scheme we have told them . Our HC has also ordered them team socks in past year and they all wear those, he didnt this past year
no one wore Durags for the last decade and about a year ago they made a big comeback, pretty much all 90s fashion is back now with our kids i dont really care about the Durag thing, sometimes you just need to be wavy
our White MLB wore a Durag a few games, it was awesome

But i am a teacher, What do you do for a living?
working, then commuting, then commuting back home seems like a LONG day, unless you can find a job in the city you are going to be coaching in

Am I the only person who has really soured on the experience of coaching Twitter? It could be and should be such an amazing tool for growth, discussion, sharing-finding-implementing new ideas, drills or scheme, and empowering each other as coaches. However, to me it has turned into: 1. an ego fest nightmare of guru snake oil salesman coaches looking to push their most recent “book” “system” or “newest innovative idea” 2. a place where people flock to look for as many likes and retweets as possible 3. an increasing and alarming trend of group think where individuals push the idea that there is only 1 way to do things anymore and only 1 way the game should be played (the most tilting and newest aspect is the increasing number of individuals who appear to think there’s only 1 way offensive football should be played because that’s the "safest" way football can be played – as if you can’t do other things outside of this group think and still stress player safety or care about player safety). It’s gotten so that individuals that I once really loved and enjoyed to follow because I felt like they brought a wealth of new information I just don’t enjoy following anymore for a variety of reasons. And I'm reluctant to engage in any sort of conversation or discussion because if you don't follow the group think then you're some terrible coach out to harm his players. Just the other day I saw an OL coach share an unpadded offseason drill that I thought was actually a pretty decent drill that made me think hmm that could be useful for us – first comment I saw was another coach flaming him for the things that were wrong with the drill because the athletes head was slightly forward (as a result that coach clearly doesn't care about athlete safety) and the athlete wasn’t driving off the midfoot. And as predicted the group thinkers joined the party quickly. How can any individual grow in that instance? Or why would they feel comfortable in sharing ideas and having discussions about what they do if they are just going to get flamed instantaneously? We’ve all seen the guys post vidoes of their athletes doing cringe worthy things in the weight room. I’ve only ever seen comments and retweets criticizing the coach and athlete I’ve rarely see comments of “coach if you stress this or change this or give the athlete this que you might see an improvement here in this regard.” It must just be so that it’s easier to criticize and tear down as opposed to share in an effort to improve. My biggest pet peeves are the group think of new age avant-garde OL guys who act as though all of a sudden they have developed the only safe way to play offensive football. That their offensive lineman or athletes never ever experience any incidental helmet contact because they have developed the superior technique and no other drills, ways, ideas are meaningful, useful, or worthy of being considered. That their athletes are capable of perfectly executing this new era “safe technique” on every snap of a game therefore eliminating risk for their athletes and as a result making them the most superior of superior coaches to ever grace the game of football with their being and as a result we should all be so thankful that they are willing to engage with the rest of us minions. IDK it just seems that coaching twitter has run its course for me and resulted in me engaging less and less these days as a result for all of the above reasons. And no I'm not a grumpy old man get off my lawn type. I'm 29 years old. I still think twitter is a great source for sharing information/ideas i have learned a lot through twitter and have gotten to connect with some awesome people. That said, in the last year or so it seems there is more bickering on twitter than in the past. Guys will always post their ideas (right or wrong) but it just seems like now there are more people openly disagreeing with them. I feel like in the past you'd just ignore someone and move along with your day... but now the thing to do is to respond Millennials

I am sure this has been on here before, but I am asking again. Curious what a day after a game looks like for your team and staff? Kids are off til Monday Coaches meet as a staff Sunday night (we are all expected to watch film on our own in preparation to be ready to discuss Sunday night) We used to try to get the kids together for Saturday morning film/treatment/lift etc but felt it wasnt helping us a few of our coaches have to work a good amount of saturdays (including our HC, he isnt a teacher) we always have a decent number of kids who work I think this is a situation where the expectation of the weekend varies greatly and we all each have to do what we feel works best for us/our kids and staff

Since most of the old Huey posters' blogs I used to follow are pretty inactive these days (Smart Football, brophy , and deuce 's blogs), I'm looking for some new stuff to read. I like matchquarters and coachbdud 's stuff a lot and think what they've got on theirs is excellent. What else should I be checking out? I havent posted on my blog in forever. Busy season. A lot of stuff keeping busy in my personal life (wedding, buying a house) I am hoping I will have more free time in the spring after clinic season to get back to putting more content up

Tickets to the College Football Playoff National Championship game in Santa Clara on January 7th... It is 20 minutes away... My buddy who has Niners season tickets has the ability to get any ticket for any event at Levi's... He said they were allowed to buy tickets for $1200 EACH haha Maybe if Bama makes it coachbdud can get me one? no pressure... I am pretty sure I am going to the National Championship one way or the other. You will never be able to go for this cheap since it's in our backyard. Tickets are still pricey, but they will continue to drop. Since it's on the west coast and the location is not central and it will be harder to sell out and/or more people will be willing to sell their tickets. My buddy went to the Rose Bowl a handful of years ago when Bama was in the national championship and he tailgated, then snagged a ticket from a scalper last minute for about $250. That is going to sort of be my plan! Let me know if you see anything cheap, i desperately want to go but when the tickets first came out they were thousands of dollars ... and we are about to buy a house so i dont think bae will approve me of dropping 3k on tickets
