HC should have never said what he did. It makes him look like he intended for the injury to happen, esp with M and W being his sons.

To go with previous posts about "focusing on other sports" we had two incoming freshmen we thought were going to play this year give us the "focusing on basketball" excuse for not playing football. Then, one of them quit basketball after the first practice and the other quit after the second practice... must be focusing on baseball...

When we meet on Sundays, one of the first questions from the coaches is "Who is on your S list this week?"--that would largely be kids who had lame excuses for missing practice and are not to play ahead of any other kids at their position during the upcoming week. No need to waste prep time on a kid who's not playing. The excuses came from their parents, but the kids know the deal---give me a lame excuse, even if your parents think it's ok, and you don't play. I don't have to make a big deal out of it. Now, admittedly, if it's a player who starts, I make a big deal out of it. If he then decides to miss, he goes on the S list. Generally, kids who are invested don't miss. The ones who aren't invested will miss, but I don't want them playing anyhow---they will get you beat. Had a couple last week who used the death of another player's mom as their excuse. The player himself practiced except for one day. His best friends practiced, but these two, who weren't close friends, couldn't. Same two are sick at least every other week--come to school, but are too sick to stay for practice. They're sandwich eaters--they have a uniform, they eat the sandwiches, but they rarely touch the field. Or, as one of my former associates used to say, they're PBRs (permanent bag holders). Best yet is still the kid who went to the Pokemon convention. High school junior. Went to the Pokemon Convention. For a week. We call them ERW's. Eat ride and watch

We've been dealing with a similar issue as well this year. We have been struggling on the offensive side of the ball and it doesn't help that our fans have become spoiled with success over the years. They've been calling for our OC's job, saying the OL coaching (me) is just terrible and a whole bunch of other nonsense. Honestly though all those fans don't bother me at all because I know how little they know. For example one supposedly wise and informed parent posted on a message board that our offense was based on the Zone Read and we were struggling on offense because we weren't making good read; but the funny thing is we haven't ran zone read all year lol! People in your neck of the woods are delusional...they even complained about CN, who was 241-52 in 24 years.

How often do you feel you need new uni's? How long does a jersey set last?

Has anyone ever done a behavior plan for their football players for classroom behavior. I've got 4-5 guys who are extremely immature and are causing problems frequently. TEachers have reported behavior to the coaches, and the players have been punished after practice.
I am getting sick of these guys because it is distraction to the program. They cannot be counted on. I'm looking for something more than just "cut them" I need a plan in place that they have to follow, that way when i do cut them, there is no debate with the parents.
Our season only has one week left, so there may be little i can do this year, but i really want something in place for 2nd semester because if they dont change they dont need to even play next year.

put policy in place...be prepared to go 0-10 with a low number of guys. may take a few years for the "lost" classes to filter out of the program.

Eventually coaching interviews are going to be 3 questions, and any answer other than no means you don't get the job. 1. Do you feel it is okay to punch players? 2. Is it okay to show players your penis? 3. Do you like to lick syrup off their bodies? That's all it's going to be. What's the correct way to answer?

The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Socrates dang kids today... article got me thinking. are they different or have I gotten old (er) and have my priorities changed.

I was thinking the same thing today as i was going through the laundry. All of our jerseys are the same age. Some look brand new and a few are about to fall apart. Any of our single digits are most requested.

I don't know if you already do this, but filming practice is a motivator. They can see how lazy or good they look and in a film room they are also publicly accountable for what they are doing. off topic but...have any of you ever had kids who refuse to believe whats on the film? Makes my head spin...

On the flip side of this, I get aggravated with teams that leave their starters in the game after we've pulled ours and start scoring garbage TD's on our worst eleven and then kicking onside kicks when the game is far out of reach. I understand, but sometimes my starters are about the same as your 2nd stringers and we need to get better. We might go a couple of series with our 1's still in, then begin to empty the bench.

We got our first win to go to 1-3.
1st game. we are up 15-14 in the 3rd and fumble on our own 20. they score and we never recover.
3rd game we were up 28-6 at the end of the 3rd and imploded in the 4th. Cramps galore, 2 punt snaps over the head of the punter...what a night.
Other night were are up 28-6 at halftime and all i can think about is "How are we going to blow this one" "What are we gonna do this time" We played well in the 2nd half and won going away. Final 45-22.
Beer is quickly becoming my friend...

for me it's the depth. we only have 35 or so kids each year. that one kid is important, he may be the 3rd guard, or backup ILB. makes us real thin. 35 kids on Varsity? 35 kids 9-12? I get what you are saying, but if you are talking about having 35 kids on Varsity, then that is supporting what I mentioned above. 35 kids on varsity...with only 22 starting positions on O and D means someone is not playing. Not playing on Friday, in today's social environment, could very well mean not playing football. 35 total 9-12.

Is it because the work gets serious, or is it a combination of increased (possibly excessive) demands plus a realization that they won't really play? One thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned when talking about dwindling numbers is that the same "entitlement" issues we complain about regarding other aspects of football/life. I see many threads mocking (deservedly so) parents for whining about little Johnny not being able to play. It would seem a natural offshoot of that is little Johnny simply not coming out. I was thinking about this too, but from a different angle. How many of you with lower numbers are missing kids that you think would have been key contributors? As I mentioned early, ours are down, but talent hasn't vastly dipped. If anything it's less babysitting going on. for me it's the depth. we only have 35 or so kids each year. that one kid is important, he may be the 3rd guard, or backup ILB. makes us real thin.

going into 3rd year. spent 1st 2 rebuilding. record not good but play is significantly better. had a great spring, beat nearby 3x larger in scrimmage. weight room going very well. going into summer, I'm pumped.
summer has sucked. can't get them to commit...never seen anything like.
I ve literally gone from thinking we may make a playoff run to I need a new job.
