One thing we've done is copy the flexbone idea of using pods. For example, We will run trap for a five minute period, .... On offense we line up with the center, 2 guards, qb, and FB. The defense gets the best of the rest and gives a good look. Maybe a 2-2 stack or a TNT with LB, whatever... really helped us get better with limited numbers. Just have to be creative...kind of an extreme half line.

Many schools in GA start around 1st of Aug and get out around the end of May. We have many week long breaks. Fall break in Oct, thanksgiving, christmas, winter in feb, spring in april. Really breaks up the year.

We are lucky if we get 35. Right now we have 26. We will pick up a few more freshmen when school starts. It hurts against the bigger roster schools in our conference. There are a three teams that usually have around 60-70, but all of the others (7) are a lot like us. Small rural school with rosters around 30-40. Depth is always a problem. Our top 15 kids are as good as anybody else's, but after that there is a significant drop off. If the right (or wrong) kid goes down, the season could crash.

For us, we have varsity and jv. Jv is 9th and a few 10th. In Georgia a kid can play six quarters a week. Several years ago, the rules were changed and the quarter count now starts on friday. So you do what you have to on Fridays and then cut and paste for jv games.

fantom...you forgot the one hour "standing around walk through" with head coach doing all of the talking and instructing while 6-7 assistants stand around twirling whistles and checking cell phones.

new pride is spot on...its an effort to keep 7v7 from becoming like AAU basketball. Trying to keep control in the hands of high school coaches.

people in USA will sue for anything. recording how you teach tackling is a great idea. also have a notebook with heat policies, emergency action plans, practice schedules including water breaks, player physicals (be sure to read them, never know if johnny had issue in the past), transportation plans, locker room supervision, field supervision. there is a few off the top of my head.

Our principal had meetings individually with a few key offenders. They were basically told to act right or they would not be allowed back in. Solved a lot of problems.

Our OL are always first for anything...First to eat, first to get equipment, first on bus, etc. The frosh OL goes before the 12th grade QB and RBs. Makes them feel important and special.
