Some people say you can’t compare people from other positions so who do you think the top QB is. Also I promise this is the last draft poll I will make. I have to go with Drew Stanton. I think he will go to the Lions in the second round and Martz will develop him to be one of the top QB’s in 3 or 4 years. I also think Brady Quinn will be one of the biggest busts in this years draft.

I have not seen the show, but anything that will make my WR’s catch the ball with their hands and not their body I am in favor of.

Just curious how many of you guys teach your quarterbacks to slide instead of take the hit (the exception being a first down or touchdown if he stays up).

I personally don’t think the players you coach care about how good of a player you were in college, or even played in college. From my limited experience all they really care about is if you can help them improve as a player.
Coachld where do you coach in Colorado?

I also didn't play college ball but I worked as a student assistant/ team manager like Mark Mangino did.

It sounds like the key here is to try and implement the best strength and conditioning program fro your players. I know a lot of programs that use mostly free weights. I also would try and implement a very good speed and agility program. If I was you I would spend the off-season revamping your S&C program so that it would better fit your players and the equipment you have. I think if you do this and reward the players that work hard in the weight room then you will see an improvement in the quality of athletes you have, and how mentally tough your athletes are.
Just my two cents worth. Also please not I have not seen your S&C program so you might already have a good system.

For a fun change of pace game you could play a game of tag. This gets your players running around; they are also working on cutting. Plus it teaches them angles which would be good for defensive player (tackling angles)

I would start Searison due to the fact he is a team player and a good leader. I also think he has the talent to get the job done.
I have only seen the show twice but I think I will start recording it, since I am still at Football when the show is on.

Actully UNI very rarley goes 5 wide. I am not saying it is not in thier offense, but we very rarley used it. UNI tends to line up more in 21 personel 12 or 11 personel. I do think UNI tends to run the shotgun more then most west coast teams.

Tog I went to UNI and worked for the football team as a student assistant. The coaches thier say they run the most pure form of the west coast offense.

I know these college teams run the Bill Walsh type offense
Northern Iowa Boston College Washington Stanford I was wondering what other colleges run this offense, also are their any power house high school teams that run it and if so what schools are they.

I will go Bryce Paup NFL Defensive MVP or Kurt Warner NFL MVP for best out of Iowa. Also does anyone know if any other school has produced an NFL offensive and NFL defensive MVP?

I used to be not sold on it but now it looks like they are shifting more towards the X's and O's and coaching strategies. I would say it is worth the $25

I would probley not allow the one to be a captian next year. I also might move them down the depth chart, and tell them the reason for this was due to the fact the other players worked hard in the summer while these players (the 3 that skipped) skipped camp.

I think it depends on how many snaps the young kid is getting. If he is getting a lot of snaps with the 1st team then leave him with the first team, however if he is mainly sitting on the sidelines let him run the scout team.

A 1-AA school that might have an interest is UNI (University of Northern Iowa). They had a RB named Richard Carter who graduated two years ago. He was around 5-5 or 5-6 and is one of the all time leading rushers in UNI history.

I would change the O and D. Like the other coaches said go to clinics and meet with college coaches. Also try and get some videos and books on the type of O and D you like.

I would play the older kid due to the fact he knows the offense better, and I will assume he makes better decisions. I also would not put QB#2 at another position on offense due to the fact that would slow down his development as a QB.

Hey if you are going to dream, dream big. If I could have one thing it would be a team plane, so we don’t have to sit on a bus or van for the 10 hour drives.

Although to answer your question brophy I would like to be able to keep the player after and have him run one 40-yard dash for everytime he shows disrespect to me. I think if I did this I would get yelled at and the player would be told he did not have to do and this would show the team that I have no autoirty.

The key is though I can't do anything with this kid send him home provide punsihment or anything. From what I understand I have to hope our OC or HC talk to him about it which I don't see them doing

An update on the situation. I asked our OC if I could discipline the kid at all for his behavior and he said let him and the HC deal with it. They have yet to talk to the QB and I am starting to think they think it is no big deal and will continue to allow it to happen. Oh well it is starting to look more and more like this might not be the right coaching situation and I will most likely move on after the season.

fbdoc I agree that the first thing to do is to sit down with the kid and tell him I am only thier to help him. I have done this and our OC is going to do it today. I am just trying to figuer out what to do if the talk does not get him to change his ways.

Thanks for the advice coaches I think I have my plan of attack set. I will talk to the OC and HC and make sure it is Ok if I have him run after practice if he stills gives me lip and if this does not work I will request to put someone else in as JV QB. If this still does not work then we may have to just get rid of the kid.

Yeah it is defiantly a hard spot to be in plus I already talked to the kid about how the backup spot will be available for next season and that he has a shot at it if he improves during the rest of the season and off-season. I also told him that I would be tough on him due to the fact I know he can be a better QB then he is. This seemed to work for a couple of weeks but then he just seemed to not like any corrections me or the OC told him he should make and now he is getting extremely mouthy and has a total lack of respect for me. He has also improved as the season has gone on so it is not like he is not showing any improvement. Anyways I am at wits end with this kid and am out of ideas on how to deal with him. Plus I think if I called him out he would just smile and joke about it. I really think the only way to get the problem fixed is by sitting him down but unfortunately I don't have anyone else that can play QB.
