Frankly, after spending most of my career (50 years) working in small schools (300-400 enrollments), most of the larger clinics (Glazier, Nike, Champion, etc.) didn't offer much in the way of speakers who would clinic on topics that dealt with the challenges of coaching in a small school. There would occasionally be a few guys from "small" (between 500 and 700 enrollments) schools but hardly ever found speakers from smaller schools. Eventually found a clinic in TX that focused on those smaller schools which I found to be invaluable, and would get to speak individually with those coaches who were more than willing to provide the time. From that point on my staff and I rarely attended one of the larger clinics. What clinic in Texas is that?

Who are the top people to follow on Twitter when it comes to strength and conditioning? Looking more for ideas or data I can use in our weight room, not people just promoting their program.

I keep hearing about how a lot of quarterback coaches really study the biomechanics of the position. I was wondering if anyone could recommend books to read, podcasts to listen to, or people to talk to on this issue.

It is in the state of Colorado. We have somewhat of a different schedule than a typical school as we teach regular classes for four days. Then on Friday students have a big assembly and grade checks in the morning and in the afternoon they get to pick two electives. So like some teachers are teaching a yoga class, or one on coding, or Disney characters and their character traits.
Only problem with teaching the rules is I won't be covering one specific sport but more the overall industry that way it draws more student population than a class like football would.

At the school I will be teaching at next year, we get to pick two electives to teach and one of the classes I picked was Future Coaches of America. I am thinking of teaching the following concepts in the class
-How to gain information on your sport
-How to create a budget
-Strength and conditioning
-Have coaches speak to the class and also the AD
-Sports Psychology
I was wondering if anyone had other ideas I could teach in this class. It will be at the middle school level and it will mainly have 7th graders in it.

I heard at a clinic that you can get a membership for 10 dollars a month to USA Football and get access to all of the Coaches Choice videos. I was wondering a couple of things about this.
1. Does anyone know how to subscribe to this service?
2. Does anyone use it, and if so is it worth the money?

I am new to the Colorado area and was wondering if anyone on the board could inform me of what the major clinics are in Colorado. I already plan on attending the Glazier clinic and probably the University of Colorado one also but don't know if any other colleges in this area have any or if any other organizations like Glazier have clinics out in Colorado.

Who are the most informative people when it comes to football to follow on Twitter. I am looking specifically for things such as technique, plays, drills.
Also does anyone have any free websites to recommend or podcasts other than Joe Daniels and Coachspeak as they were recommended in another thread.

I was wondering what do you think a person needs to understand in terms of coaching quarterbacks (example biomechanics, passing concepts etc...) to be an extremely successful quarterback coach.

Thanks for the input we have been following most of this advice already. Heck we just had to forfit this week’s game since we had 4 kids eligible with our attendance policy. Hopefully this sends the message that if you don’t show up to practice then you don’t play. We have also been following this policy all year, but have never had this many kids miss (The main reason we had the big attendance problem this week was due to the fact we were on fall break). We have had some moderate success this year. Currently we are 14th in the state and were about to make a playoff run. So it’s not like we were a down in the dumps programs in terms of success. I think next year we are going to have the junior high practice down at the high school. Also our head coach is going to try and be on the hiring committee for the next junior high coach. Any advice on anything else we can do or anything we can do differently is greatly appreciated.

I am in a program that needs a major rebuilding program and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to turn this situation around. The major problems are listed below. 1. Very low commitment from our players it is not uncommon where we have 20% of our team missing from a practice with BS excuses, or some kids just are no shows and don’t even give a reason. 2. Football is not taken very seriously in the community. So we get low turnout rates(have 21 kids on our team for a 2A program). Also not much support from parents or administration. 3. Very poor junior high program. The team has not won a game in 3 years and we lose a lot of football kids in junior high due to lack of success. Anyways if anyone has any advice please post it. Also does anyone know of a good school in Arizona (especially if it is a Native school since I coach in a Native school) that has had these problems has been able to achieve success.

I am having the exact opposite problem. I can find coaching spots that are good fit, but am having trouble finding an elementary teaching job. I guess it doesn’t help living in Arizona where they are cutting teachers left and right due to the budget.

I think it would be a big help with the kids. However, you need to spend timg going over it with them and not just hand it to them and hope they read.
