We never really had issues with kids losing weight or dropping classes with our wrestling programs. Head Wrestling coach was pretty accommodating with our kids and vice versa. The only time it was an issue was when the kid chose to lose the weight himself but he would always be back at full strength and size by the time the football season rolled around again.

Had it happen once as a coach. Down 28-21 we score on a speed option play 80 yards and the RB finishes with over 225. We go for two because of the weather and lost 28-27

Gus Malzahn. I think he understands the game (especially the run game) and he can bring an up-tempo system with him.

I often preferred bringing them in on Saturday mornings. When I was in Illinois they would come in and watch film, lift and then usually go to the underclassmen game after that. All in all it was about 2 1/2 hours and then the rest of the weekend was their own.

I agree with the question about how the offensive line looks with each kid. If the gel is better with one of the other I would give him the reps and roll with that.

Yeah a lot of really crazy things in that show. Good football players who have just made some poor decisions. I liked it as a whole but could not imagine coaching at that level. That Mississippi Delta team was just absolute trash though.

I know most states have rules about time spent during the summer. I have my own ideas on how to spend that time but I was wondering if anybody spends an absurd amount of time during the summer and if it has a negative or positive effect on your players, coaches and team in general.

2010 Second round of the playoffs. We go down south to play a big, fast, tough team. Back and forth all game long, nobody is ever able to really put another team away. They score to go up 45-41 with about 2 minutes to go. We march down and on 4th and goal from the 19 we score on a jump ball fade to take the lead 48-45. They proceed to get out of their base offense (which to that point had totally been gashing us) and go 4 wide and our rockhanded MLB picks off a tipped pass to end it.

It is a cyclical situation as to why kids play or do not play. They play because the team is successful and it is a well run program and the like having fun, this in turn causes winning which in turn causes pressure which causes higher standards which causes coaches pushing a little harder and then that finally turns kids away because it is "too hard" or "takes too much time"
That compacted with the unfortunate specialization of sports and every 5'9 kid thinking he can play in the NBA.

Unfortunately we have a current coach on staff who professes himself to be a "D1" producer and trainer. He basically is abusing his privilege as a coach and getting kids to pay for training sessions with him. He claims that he got a kid who never played high school football a D1 scholarship, he claims that he will get any kid a D1 scholarship and he is filling our kids heads with the notion that they can go D1 despite never having started a game and also not being physically capable of even playing D3 ball. Not really sure how to handle it IN ga it's illegal to get your own athletes to pay for your services. I would fire him. I would fire him on the principle that he claims to have won two Purple Hearts but I have no power in that department.

This is a never ending battle that happens at every school in America. Coaches in every sport want to "specialize" their kids and at the end of the day the only people that get hurt are the KIDS. Basketball coach doesn't want his 5'10 185 pound point guard to play football. Football coach doesn't want his 6'1 265 pound center to wrestle. Baseball doesn't want his 6'4 235 pound first baseman to do ANYTHING else...It sucks but it is the world we live in.

Crock pot is key. I also will cook up a big stack of chicken breasts on Sunday night and eat those throughout the week. I try to be healthy but we all know that is hard to do during football season

This is awesome. Really hits close to home for the current gig. Gotta make the kids accountable all over the school before the culture can set in.

We had a kid come out a few years back for his senior year. He was a baseball/basketball player his first three years and just an awesome athlete. Well he comes out and proceeds to catch 10 touchdowns, make first team all-conference and get a full-ride football scholarship to a D2 school. Great kid!

The Best of Times Reno Hightower was the best movie QB of all time. When Reno Hightower was a prick, he was the greatest QB in the history of South Kern County.

I worked for a guy who did this. Sold EVERYBODY on a load of crap, including myself. I moved 900 miles away to work for him and then within 4 months he left. Spend a year at the school and bailed. We went 10-4 the next year but he just won his second straight state title. Loyalty is a fickle creature for sure.

We had a trainer who would actually enjoy it when the boys would gather around her. She ruined a few of our kids by coddling them and constantly fighting for their attention. She is a whale.

Punt it and then hope your opponent throws a double pass that's intercepted by your Free Safety.

I worked for a head coach who would regularly have multiple 4 hour practices each week. All others were at least 3 hours, even Thursday. We went 0-10. Players were dead by game day. I left after 1 year. Everyone hated him, Players, Parents, Coaches, Coaches' Families. He lost all staff but 1 (his best friend), half of his players did not return the next year, and over half of the 8th grade team did not come out as freshmen. It didn't help that he was a jerk who thought he knew more than he really did, and bullied the players. Wow, what happened to THAT guy?

Frustrating for sure when coaches don't realize that the game has passed them by and they should NOT be coaching anymore.
Kudos to you for handling it like a professional though.

We had three kids get arrested for shoplifting pink gloves the day of a game. I wanted them kicked off the team immediately but the head coach felt it better to suspend them for 2 games. Head Coach was eventually let go for "lack of discipline" that off season.
The worst part was that these kids lived in a good neighborhood, had money, had everything they needed but STILL stole the gloves. Just dumb
