Hey guys, we are facing a team this week that we are much more physical than and based on previous films we have, we feel like they are going to cut us on both sides of the ball. I wanted to get coaching points from all you experts on how play the cut block by the OLine from a defensive perspective and also how to block the cutting DLine from an offensive perspective. Obviously, I have an idea but looking for anything that may gives us on edge to be effective against it. Thanks guys!

We play 11 in MS, with the first one being an optional "classic."

That's exactly what it was. We had that problem this year. Some classes are just chock full of losers man. This was one of them So true. We had a group coming up and when they were freshman I told my assistants that if I'm still here, that group will get me fired as seniors. No matter what we did, they were what they were. I ended up leaving for a coordinator job at a bigger school, but still talked with one of my assistants that's still on staff and he told me, "be glad you left." LOL

Focus on teaching the young guys you have. Don't stress and don't schedule a spring game/jamboree that you have to prepare for with kids you know aren't going to play or ready to play. A lot of times it does more harm than good.

Probably not popular opinion but I think in large part it is the kids you have year to year, specifically your upperclassmen. I've seen culture change on a dime in both directions when a senior class departs. As coaches we can preach it all day, but some kids will buy in, some never will.

I know its been a PR nightmare for HUDL. I'm sure they weren't expecting the social media firestorm from coaches that they got. The price increase is not the issue to me, its the limited data.

The only time I find off-season meeting useful is right before Spring practice starts to get everyone on the same page for goals and what the HC wants accomplished that Spring. Aside from that its meeting just to say we met and that's a waste of time IMO.

My first 7 or 8 years coaching in the early 2000s there was no hudl. I was a young DC and charted every play off VHS scout films onto a yellow legal pad. There's no doubt Im a better coach now for having done that. My HC then was an old school coach that was towards the end of his career. He mentored me the right way. Still talk to him regularly.

Its not just you. Its all those things you mentioned above and also being critical of college and NFL coaches. Drives me crazy.

Straps that hook the clothes together. We wash all their practice gear everyday after practice.

I imagine all cases are different, especially in college. USC fired Lane Kiffin in the airport terminal after a game. NFL probably has more of a procedure that must be followed.

I was DC and/or HC for the last 13 years. This current season I wanted to take a step back and took a job at a bigger school as just a position coach. It has been hard for me not to coach something up when I see it. My old school was small and most years there was only 3-4 coaches on staff and we all coach it up. I really like the new staff and don't think they would have any issues, because I don't at all, but I still try my best not to do it.

Similar story...but I know how my story ends: Coached at a school for 15 years. Sacrificed my summer vacations and time with my kids as they were growing up. I single-handedly built a practice field at the school. Did not pursue better paying jobs in order to see this program through...Program went from nothing to playing for a state championship. Today...20 years later, no one in the town I was at knows or cares about any of my sacrifices (no statue or museum in my honor it anything)...and I always find myself asking, "What in the hell was I thinking?" I understand the feeling all too well but cant fast forward 20 years just yet.

Keep fighting the good fight coach. You can't control what the president does anyway. I was HC at a place similar but my fight was with the school board member. I got tired of him and resigned, things are much worse there now.

Have been in the situation in the past and it sucks. Just grind it out coach. Keep working hard and finish the season as strong as you can as a coach. The kids that are trying deserve that from you.

I've got way more going on during a game than to worry about who and when someone takes a knee. Do it or don't do it, makes no difference to me.
