I have a policy we go over and make them sign. Its 10 main points. I just let them know that there can be consequences and by signing it, I can hold them accountable.

I'm a HC in MS and know most of those guys pretty well. Obviously, they come by every year for recruiting and I have taken several kids to open tryouts over there thru the years. Buddy is not a bad guy, but he obviously has some things he needs to work on. Nothing I saw surprised me. Honestly, surprised he still has a job. I really like Coach Woods, he's the HCIW and will do a good job.

Shoot, I'm having a hard time with parent negativity. Thanking them is not on my agenda, with exception of a select few.

Been there. I know exactly about the hallways at school and degrading the football program. Stay the course, and be as positive as you can.

There is a war on football in this country whether intentional or not, and I worry it will lead to the end of the game. Very true statement here. Our sport is under attack.

Mississippi has separate classifications for the two, but private can chose to compete in public classification if they wish.

You might need some time before you're ready to coach. Just 19! I'll be ready don't you worry! Lol Ha. You got a lot to learn, but if you stay in this profession you will.

Been there. I took over a programs 3 years ago that had 3 seniors, 4 juniors, 11 sophomores, 11 Freshman. We went 0-11 year 1, 2-9 year 2, and this year we are currently 4-1 with our first loss coming this past Friday to a team that was much better athletically. Hang in there and stick with your plan. It will get better.

I've been on both sides of this. My personal opinion is that you do lose some physicality when you don't go live. For us I think its even more of a mindset, so even if I don't want a lot of contact I don't tell the players. I will just tell our coaches to make sure we get a quick whistle. When we tell the players that our practices just don't seem to be as good. And it's really a feeling you should have as a coach. We were very soft my first year as HC and I really wanted to change that so we bit the bullet and went live even with the risk of injury and still do today. Even if we are in shells we are live until whistle.

Playing football is a privilege, not a right. If he doesn't like he by no means has to stay. He represents the program on and off the field, therefore there are penalties for actions on and off the field. Our business is to help boys become men. IMO, that's what we're doing.

There is no policy in place at the district level and if I don't do anything there will be no other consequence. We preach choices/decisions all the time in our program. I'll be danged if there isn't a consequence put forth for his actions. I've suspended him two games plus our jamboree, not allowed to dress out but must practice during suspension. Im going to look into the idea of sending him to counseling or something similar with the possibility of lifting a game. The only reason I haven't totally removed him from the team is because I'm afraid that will hurt him in the long run. He needs football more than football needs him.

Anyone ever had a player get a DUI during season? If so, how did you handle it or how would you if it happened on your team?

All seniors get their game jersey, as well as a plaque that contains an action photo. We also have various individual awards. Over the years we've had some seniors whose action shot would have to be taken on a Wednesday. LOL!

I think in the next 5-10 years you're going to see a number of states go to no contact during the week or really limit how many days you can go full contact. Everything the NFL and NCAA do trickles down, just takes time. Would be interested to see if the number of catastrophic injuries INCREASE due to this. No doubt. It seems injuries have gone up since the NFLs new CBA went into place with all these changes.

We don't do exit interviews with our seniors. I give them a lengthy sheet or questions and then I meet with them individually later. The underclassman exit interviews are more of us coaches giving feedback from the past season and what we are expecting out of them the next season. The main things I ask the starters/main contributors is what they they think their strength and weaknesses are. For the younger/scout team I also ask that and ask them if they think they are ready to play on Fridays.

I understand it from both sides. My philosophy is to never embarrass an opposing team or coach. Especially if that other team is outmatched. What does that prove? You've got better athletes than them? That other coach has a wife, kids, and administration to answer to as well. I also believe in karma and what goes around comes around. I've been on that other side of a blowout several times and it's not fun.

When yall get the magic potion let me know. All I can say is have a plan and stick to the plan. Eventually it will turn if you do things the right way.
