True story: The University of Tennessee used the call: "Peter!, Peter!, Peter!" to warn the receiving team of a non handled punt and to get away. The reason that they used Peter was : You don't play with your Peter in public!
Yes, I know - try to explain that to female superintendent-president of BOE-HS principal, or at Mom's Club meeting.
That is why we said "Booger"!

We used to set the starters on both side of the ball without worrying about who was going both ways. Then we would look at who was still on the board who could possibly relieve a two-way starter.

Wednesdays
We put one of our chutes boards in the middle of the field on the logo. Players were grouped into four groups by position/size. Pairs were called out on at a time from the groups. 3 or 4 point stance, one on one, must maintain both feet on separate sides of the board, must drive the opponent off the board, no throwing. Losers take a knee until only one man is standing in each group.

My favorite format for one on one scrimmage was:
1st half was game like with referees. Played just like a game. All special teams, etc.
3rd quarter was Special Teams and situations. 1's vs. 1's
4th quarter was 2nds/3rds vs. 2nds/3rds.
5th quarter was beer and pizza with the other staff.

I was a head coach for 23 years. We took over the track program about 5 years into that period. My head JV coach became the head track coach and I became the throws coach. I took great pride in the development of our throwers as athletes and throwers. In most years we dominated the throws at both the varsity and JV levels. I believe we also improved their athletic ability at the same time. I really think that there is great carryover for linemen if taught correctly.
We worked on hip flexibility, jumped rope every day, ran stairs, did short sprint work, flipped tires, etc. All of which helped them throw and be better linemen.
Lastly, it was great seeing them compete. They won points, medals, etc. Big smiles on their faces.

2015. We were playing Butte College at Butte for what would be the conference championship. Last play of the game we have the lead and they have the ball on the -35. QB runs around avoiding the sack, launches a javelin type throw to the end zone. All I can see is their red shirts down by the end zone. They went nuts and I felt sick to my stomach.

Hot Gates
Ball on a hash on the 50. Left side O vs. right side D. Hash and boundary are out of bounds. 4 plays to get to the 40. Switch sides.
Can't pass.

We had a very good booster club for the football program. They had meetings once a month and I would go and give a report on the previous month in the football program.

We did this before. Tuesday was crossover day. Athletes who had a position on the other side of the ball did drill work on that side on Tuesdays. If you were a one-way player you practiced your normal position.

We did EDD by position to start practice. I asked each position coach to do a drill that was position specific that would not only be productive for that position but also get the heart rate up and the athletes sweating.
We would attempt to do some sort of competitive team drill right after, such as a two minute drill, and we were off and rolling!

We attempted to cover most of the situations that they would face in game. We covered the down & distance situationals, going into the endzone, coming out of the endzone, etc.

We had a point system to be allowed to suit for the first game. They needed 5 out of 7 possible points to suit. If they had 4 they did not suit for our first game. If they had 3 they missed the first 2 games, etc. We had one kid miss the first 5 games because he did not have any points. Here are the 7 possible points:
1) Spring Weight Training class 2) Fall Weight Training class 3) Spring Footbal (70% attendance) 4) Summer work-outs (70% attendance) 5) Football Camp 6) play a 2nd sport 7) play a 3rd sport

I have two Assistant AD's. They each get $2,369.00.
One does transportation, players clearance, and transfers. He handles any issues with Diamond sports.
The other keeps track of the budget. He also handles any issues with Aquatic sports, Wrestling, and Track & Field.
