We have had games moved and most crews are now just four man crews.

Very low. Used to field Varsity, JV, and Frosh teams with about 100+ in the program. Currently 19 10-12 graders on the Varsity and 18 Frosh on the JV's.

Structure time for you, your family, and your faith.
I woke up every weekday at 4:30 to be at the gym for my workout at 5:00 a.m. This was ME time.
I worked on Saturdays until mid afternoon. Saturday evening was for me and my wife.
I worked on Sunday mornings over coffee. Then off to Mass with the family. Sundays was for faith and family.

I explained it as having a bank account. If my daughter is an honor student, has never had a major issue at home comes home half an hour late she gets a "let's not have this happen again" talk. If my son is a slap who is consistantly challenging authority comes home half an hour late he gets the "we will decide tomorrow what the consequences are" talk. She has more in her bank account than he does.

I coach at a JC in California. Our Head Coach and our DC both coached at the DI level. We bring on young volunteer coaches that basically train as future grad assistants. We have had a string of these young coaches get grad assistant jobs at Hawaii, Washington, Washington State, Cal, Old Dominion, etc.

We did :10 minutes in groups. The directive was that each group had to do an EDD that warmed up the players and was position specific.

Our program was historically like this as well. We tried many different solutions. Then we started to practice in full pads the day before the game. Finished practice with a full contact drill, 1's vs. 1's. That did the trick.

My favorite way to develop is/was to go observe Spring Football. Sit in on meetings and watched things explained, then go watch practice and see how it is taught.

We used to tell parents that we would not punish their children. Instead we would assign "OTI" (Opportunity to Improve). This was showing up to the stadium on Wednesday mornings before school for some running while I drank coffee and checked my messages. For more immediate issues we assigned "MEDS" (Memory Enhancement Drills). These might be down/ups or what we called the Dirty 300 after practice. This discussion always got a chuckle from the parents at our preseason meeting, but it also diffused a lot of parent complaints and the players understood what was the consequences for their actions.

We play on Saturday. I will watch that game on Sunday after Mass. I will watch some film of next opponent later that day as well to assess opponent's personnel (I watch the LB's). I will have NFL RedZone on in the background.
Monday create cutups of base defense with report during my prep. Will watch previous game with my position (RB) then next opponent after dinner with the OL coach to determine base defense.
Tuesday create cutups of blitzes and stunts with report during my prep. Will watch cutups of opponent's base defense with position. After practice with OL coach to determine blitz and stunts and what our protections will be.
Wednesday create cutups of short yardage/red zone/goal line defense with report during my prep. Will watch blitzes and stunts cutups with position. After practice with OL coach to determine short yardage/red zone/goal line defense.
Thursday will watch short yardage/red zone/goal line cutups with position.
I will have music on in my classroom while watching film and making cutups.
I have an issue with working ahead. I prefer not to look at the next opponent until after the game.

I wonder if some schools/districts will consider pushing the start of the school year back to the traditional early September start date? This would allow counties more time to get off the watch list, and possibly open up for more 'in class learning'. It would also better accommodate those late season playoffs which are now landing mid to late June. There have been a few school districts doing just that. Moving the opening of school back two weeks.

From my wife:
Pancakes For Dinner Can Wait….
My husband loves football… I mean he really loves football, and not just the X’s and O’s on game day. He loves the comradery, the influence he and the other coaches have on young men (and women in at least one case), he loves practice, clinics, staff meetings (well, short ones anyway). He loves the smell of the field, the feel of the air during 6AM & 8PM practices. He loves the sound of the crowds, the…. well, you get it…. He loves everything about the game. He can’t pass a white board without drawing “God’s Play”... Power. Seriously, God’s Play has been spotted on two whiteboards at Kaiser, in IKEA, in his classroom, in my office, in his office, etched into the dust on the back of my car….. I told you… he loves the game.
After so many years of doing one thing, a person’s mind gets conditioned to think a certain way; in my husband’s case, he sees football everywhere. We were in Home Depot one day and he saw a young man, “look” he said to me, “see his forearms, look how long they are…he’s a Center”. He’s always on the lookout for talent. Even at church. An athletic young man; tall, solid frame… he offers the sign of peace (pre social-distancing) and asks where he attends high school, “you play ball?”. Really, who does this? A football coach, that’s who….
I have grown to adjust to our life. I know there are practices, meetings, clinics, recruiting events, etc.. I know there are only two weeks out of the summer where we can plan a vacation (32 years ago we planned our wedding around football… married on July 2nd… no lie). I know that football is year round. Practice on Thanksgiving morning meant you made it to the 2nd round of playoffs. Missing a family Christmas party meant you made it even further. I have seen boys grow up to be men. Men become fathers. I have attended graduations, weddings, and funerals where Coach was a welcome attendee and conversations always gravitated to “remember when it was 4th & goal?”.
If you are a casual fan (or not married to a football coach), this may not make sense. In fact you may be rolling your eyes; there’s more to life than football. True, but I’ve learned that football definitely has a place in my family and in our world. And, it’s not just because football has always guaranteed me a few weekends a year where I have the house to myself, where I can have pancakes for dinner and popcorn for lunch if I want. Football provides structure for players and coaches. It provides routines, predictability, focus. It provides a place to go… a place to be…. a group to be with. Don’t underestimate how difficult it will be for our athletes and our coaches to remain on the sidelines while Science catches up to us.
I love my husband…. my husband loves me…. he says he can’t live without me, I believe him. He can’t live without football either. I’m reminding myself that the virtual coaching clinics and happy hours, the relentless review of game film, and the weekly check ins with his players are all ways for our coaches to stay connected to the game and to each other. I’m okay with that. Pancakes for dinner can wait.

Took my team from Sacramento, California to play a game in Idaho. Chartered bus. Planned lunch stop went well. Didn't really plan where to stop for dinner as I thought we would just stop some place to eat. Didn't realize there was no "someplace" for the last six hours! Arrived at our hotel at 11:00 p.m. with a lot of hungry kids and coaches!

Deflect all personal questions by talking about the team and how they are working to improve.
All opponents are worthy of hard work and preparation.

I must have a different outlook than some. I check the Board daily, look for things that interest me, either comment or answer a question if I can. I never feel compelled to tell someone their question is stupid nor chastise those with an opinion different than mine. Although I find some of your responses entertaining!
Anyway, I feel it is important to right down your Mission Statement, Core Values, etc. It will act as a guide, not just to you but your staff, players, parents, administrators, etc.
Even God wrote down the Ten Commandments.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to ensure an environment that provides every student-athlete with the opportunity to learn skills necessary to become a responsible, productive citizen. Football will be an integral part of the educational experience as it has the capability, more than any other sport, to teach the values that this country holds dear.
Our athletes will be:
Responsible Citizens who: • Demonstrate self-respect and respect for others. • Accept consequences for their actions. • Understand the importance of being present and on time. • Understand that hard work and hustle does not guarantee success but greatly increases the chances for success and that lack of a work ethic will doom a person to failure. • Exhibit humility. • Understand that not everyone can be the star and some can’t even be a starter but everyone can be a teammate. • Take advantage of the opportunities when they come. • Understand the importance of working together as a team and relying on others. • Understand the most important lesson in life is how to recover from failure or simply getting back up. • Exhibit toughness and enjoy the physical nature of the game. • Demonstrate the ability to be prepared on a consistent basis.

Huge believer in dynamic stretch is a waste of time. Warm-up in indi groups with a drill that is position specific and accomplishes something. For example, TE's doing ball drills, OL doing ropes, LB's doing agility bags, etc.
