We are a spread team that takes advantage of uncovered receivers from time to time. Each year we change the way we audible. Before we gave everyone a nickname and then a series of numbers where one number was the route they run, this year we just ran bubble if uncovered in trips and a turn and catch if uncovered in 2 x 2. This way we did not have to call the route we just made an alert call to tell everyone we were audibling. How do you guys do it at the LOS?

Thast good stuff we have also used NBA teams and NFL teams for live and dummy. I also tag stuff with "Lock IT" when I dont want him to audible. Good thing you didnt lock that one on 4th and 12.

I've been a part of a system where we had a live color similar to what DC ohio said. We'd use it for any play in our offense (all our plays were numbers). for instance if black was the live color we'd say
Black 036, Black 036, set, go
here' we'd change the play to 036 (which was inside veer for us)
In another system, we'd have a "Railroad" call which simply swiched the direction of the play. For instance, if we were running iso to the right, a "railroad" call would simply mean iso to the left.

i heard a college coach speak about thier audibles and if the color is green (for green grass) then the audible was a run, and if the color was blue(blue sky) than it was a pass.

Our would be a color that we pick out the day before along with the player's practice number or number of their choosing. I.E. Red 7... Red 7... set ... hike.

we don't audible too much. every now and then we will pair plays in the huddle and call 18 or 19 pitch, for example.
if that is the case, we will always go on a longer snap count.
the qb gets to the line makes the read of the defense that tells him which play to run.
he will then start the snap count and make the call:
down, go, 19, hut (if he chose 19 pitch)
simple, but effective

One of the best ways to Audible is Check With Me (CWM) at L.O.S.
In the A-11 in Base Set we are balanced from a Defensive POV:
X....................R.................U...C...Y...................E..........................Z ..........A........................................................................B................ .............................................1..2...................................................
So...
1. If a Defense is Overloaded to our Red Box (left Hash to Boundary), or White Box (between Hashes), or Blue Box (right Hash to boundary), then we can Audible using Colors or Numbers to get the Football to a particular Box quickly
2. We could call Red, White or Blue, etc. and then the Play Call, either Run or Pass to move the football
3. Each week we can change the Color or Order of Colors to make the appropriate Color live, etc.

We either use "Flip" to call the mirror play, or call a different play by College or Pro Team Cities/States (for left) and Mascot (for right).
Examples:
Midline - Maine (left); Black Bear (right) Zone Read - Arizona (left); Wildcat (right) Veer - Denver (left); Bronco (right) etc.
