With as many comeback victories that we see in bowl games, it would be fun to hear the best comeback victory others have coached or played in.
Hopefully you came out on the good end.
Let's hear it!

We were down 35-12 with 7 minutes left in the game against the defending champs who were 6-1 coming in to play us. We were 3-3 at that time. In 7 minutes we scored 3 TD's (1st with a regular PAT kick, last 2 with 2-point conversions) all on clock management, execution, and FINALLY playing defense. No trick plays, no onside kicks, no fumble recoveries or INT's to help us.
We scored the final TD with less than 10 seconds, no T.O.'s left (used them all on defense) and no way to spike the ball because it was 4th down. We tied it up 35-35 and went into OT, which is a 10-yard fight scenario.
We got the ball first and scored on a run play up the gut on our first play. We went for 2 (obviously our PAT kicker was having a bad night...he was 1-for-3 at that point and we didn't want to put the game in his hands) and got it, so we're up 43-35 and we go on defense. Our opponent scores in 4 plays and also gets their 2-point conversion.
Now, because we went first in the first sequence, our opponent goes 1st in this next sequence (this is now double OT). We stop them on 4 downs. We get the ball back and score in 3 plays...GAME OVER! 49-43 upset in double OT...
Best game I've ever been involved with as a coach or as a player. It's considered one of the best come-back upsets in state history.

This is not really a big comeback, but it was the best game I was part of. We played our cross town rivals and it was close all game. I cant remember the exact score, but I think it was 12-8 we are losing it the fourth. About 2 mins left in the game and we are finally moving the ball. Then on Their 20 we fumble the QB-HB exchange and they recover. The HC for some reason decides to go Ballistic on the ref and we give them 15. So after we use all of our time outs they have the ball with :18 secs left and it is 4 and 8. Their HC for some reason gets a delay of game to make 4 and 13 :18 sec left. They are on our 23 and I am thinking they are going to just run the ball and make us score with a few seconds left. The center snaps the ball and the QB drops back. He threw the ball we picked it off at about the five and our guy takes it 95 yards for the score. We won. Now that was fun. All of our guys turned around and just starting blocking and knocking the other team on their butt. As our guy crosses the goal line I feel someone tackling me from behind it was our HC jumping on my back.
btw, It was a middle school game.

I didnt play in or coach this one, but probably the biggest comeback in High School History:
28 points in less than 3 minutes
Love the homer announcers, HS football at its finest.

On our Homecoming night in 2007 at Piedmont, we were tied 14 - 14, and we got the football back with 32 seconds left in the game. We had two timeouts, beginning from our own 18-yard line.
Play progression:
1. Piedmont QB rolled left and hit a 32 - yard pass over the middle and we went to our opponent's 48 - yard line or so, and we called timeout
2. Piedmont QB rolled right and connected on a 15 - yard comeback route to stop the clock
3. With 13 seconds remaining in the game, and the ball on the Opponent's 32-yard line, Piedmont QB Ran a perfect Draw Left and he scampered to our opponent's 15 - yard line.
4. Called our last timeout with 5 seconds remaining
5. Our Place Kicker then drilled a 32 - yard field goal to win the game on Homecoming and the Place went Nuts!
It was a magical night.

I didnt play in or coach this one, but probably the biggest comeback in High School History: 28 points in less than 3 minutes Love the homer announcers, HS football at its finest. technically, it wasn't a "comeback" as the trailing team that made the frantic 'comeback' still ended up losing. score to take lead then kickoff and it gets run back for a TD.

The best comeback with a HS team, I've been a part of was with a "new to football" program, that came from 22-0 deficit at halftime... then eventually won 24-22. We were pretty terrible all year, this was the last game of a dismal 2-7 season to that point, but the coaches and players never quit trying, and it worked out for them.

1999 section finals on the road. We got down 21-0 in the 1st quarter. We won 48-29.
The play that seemed to change the mojo....they threw a screen and our NG picked it off and ran it in for a TD. From that point on it was like someone lit a fire under us and threw ice cold water on them.

2 years ago, the team I coach gets knocked out RD 1 of the playoffs, so the next week I drive out to go see my alma mater in their second rd game ( so technically I wasn't part of it but it was insane so here I go)...
Up by 6 the opposition (who I'll just call Team B) has the ball 1st and ten on my alma mater's (Team A) 2 yard line with under 45 seconds left; no time outs left. All they needed to do was kneel on the ball and take the victory; however, Team B's coach has a history of running up the score. He's often portrayed as kind of a jerk who runs up the score, i've never met him but a lot people I know say the same.
In any case Team B doesn't take the knee, they run it in and go up 13. Team A takes the kickoff, a few plays later the Qb scrambles about 35 yards for a TD, down only 6 but theres less than 10 seconds left.
You know how the story ends, team A recovers the onside kick, and with time for one play left hits their allstate receiver on a game winning hail mary; it was a big mistake by the defense, they left him single covered on the one cut side of a bunch open set.
I ran into some of the coaches later on that nite at a local casino and pointed out to them that they probably should go elsewhere as theyve used up all their luck earlier that evening.

Sorry, but I got to go with two comebacks!
3 years ago, playing our rival at home. We lead the entire game until they go ahead 28-21 with 55 seconds to go. We get a crappy return and start from our own 25 yard line with 1 timeout. We convert two separate 4th down plays during the drive. Score a TD - penalty - Score again with NO TIME left on the clock! - Celebration penalty (by our fans on the sideline.) With the penalty, its now going to be about a 35 yard PAT. We line up for the kick and they call timeout to "ice" our kicker...who now says she (yes SHE! an all county kicker!) has a sore leg and isn't sure she can make it. We now decide to go for 2 - which we never would have got to if our rivals hadn't called timeout. Shot gun, pass, Double Post, SCORE! Bedlam! Great Win!
Next year, playing our rival at their place, down 6-20 in the 4th quarter. We get a long run down to their 10 yard line. We score the next play with a back-up running Fly Sweep (assistant made the call!). We go for 2 and its 14-20. We kick off and they go 3 and out. We have the ball on our own 40 with about 3:00 minutes to go. Come down to another 4th down play. QB hits our WR at the goal line who then gets hit from both sides - ball pops up in the air - and the WR makes an ESPN highlite catch lying on his back in the endzone! We take the lead with the PAT and are able to hang on and take a knee. Best part of this win, the WR was my son! We still watch that tape a couple times a season!

1993 we're down 38-9 going into the 4th quarter. On 4th and 11 we throw the fade for the game-winning TD--something like 51-48--with 21 seconds left.

Two years ago, in the last game of the season. We came in with two wins, having lost our last four games. I coach 7th grade, so we have 8 minute quarters. We are down 20-6 going into the 4th quarter, and they have the ball.
This was a Wing-T team whose only good player was our FB/Sam LB. It seemed unlikely that we could muster fourteen-plus points in one quarter, when we could only get six in the previous three.
Anyway, our stud LB causes a fumble, recovers it, runs it back to almost the goal line, and we give it to him on Belly until we score. We don't convert the two point.
We have momentum, get the ball back, drive with our FB, score, and get the two point conversion.
Tie game.
As I'm going over the rules for overtime with one ref, another comes running in and says the other coach won't play overtime. In our league, both coaches have to agree.
Tying sucks, but it was an exciting way to end a pretty low season.

best comeback i was a part of was in my sophomore year in HS. It was just a JV game but we came back from 22-6 with 7 minutes left in the game to tying it up with less than a minute to go. NO OT for JV of course but that was our first league game and we really carried the momentum of the comeback on through out the rest of the season

Three years ago I was an assistant. First round of the playoffs.
We take the lead 7-0 in the first or second quarter. We dominate their offense the whole game until about halfway through the 4th. They march the ball down the field and score a touchdown and get the PAT 7-7. We get the ball back with a few minutes left and run the ball to burn clock but try a pass on 3rd down to try to pick up a first down. The ball is picked off and taken back for a TD. 14-7
We get the ball back and go 3 and out and have to punt. They get the ball back and march down to about our 25. We get a HUGE stop on 4th and 1. They get the first down they can kill the clock. So we take over at our own 25 with about 45 seconds left. Kid makes a stretched out catch on the sideline to pick up about 20 yards. Then we hit our fake screen down the field for another 30. We score on a pass in the back of the endzone with about 10 seconds left. The kid that made the catch was a classic underachiever but made the play of his life.
So we have to make the PAT to tie the game. But, a kid isn't out there and we have to call time out to get the 11th player on the field. Coach says lets go for it. We run our fake field goal. Our QB always played the wing back on FG protection. Snap the ball to the holder while the QB peels off from that position. Kicker approaches like he is going to kick and the holder flips to the QB coming around behind. It is designed to be a pass to the wing on the other side in the back of the endzone but he is covered. So the QB heads for the corner and dives from literally the 4 yard line over two players and flips into the endzone for the 2 pts and the 15-14 win.
By far the most exciting game I have ever seen. It was great for our QB who had thrown a bad INT to redeem himself and take in that PAT.

In a game this year we were down 7-6 at half. Get the ball to start the 2nd half and throw a pick that they run back. Next series we fumble, they run it back. Next series throw a pick and they run it back. Score is 26-7 (they always went for two which is a big part of the story) and late in the 3rd we score on about a 55 yd run. Hold them and in the 4th quarter we throw a slant that goes for 50 yds. Score is now 26-21. They get the ball and march down the field and have it 1st and goal at the 9 yd. line. We hold them on 4 plays and actually push them back a couple of yds. Very next play we hit a wheel route for 89 yds with about a 1:30 to go in the game. Go for 2 and get it and hold them to win 29-26. The kid that caught the wheel for 89 yds had been out for a while with cramps, comes up to the HC and tells him he thinks he has one good play in him.
Two weeks later we are up 23-0 in the 3rd and they make a huge comeback. It's 23-20 in the 4th and we have 3rd and 11 on their 30 with 2 minutes left. We run a reverse to a freshmen who gets the 1st down but fumbles when he gets hit. They recover and drive down to our 30 with 45 seconds left. One of our sophomores picks off the next pass but doesn't drop and gets hit and fumbles. they get to our 5 with 5 seconds left and try a field goal to tie it up. We block it and win 23-20 (kicker actually never got the ball A$# high but we like to say we blocked it, sounds better). Had the game won 3 times.

LOL the greatest comback I was apart of we didnt win-we led the state semifinals two seasons ago 26-10 with 10 min left and lost 38-34. They had the ball down 16 on our 20, they threw us a pick in our own end zone, our DB tries to bring it out and fumbles on the 5. They get it back and score next play. We go three and out, they go three and out. They punt, our PR muffs the punt gives them the ball on the 50. They score quickly. 26-24. We get ball with 3 min to go. QB audibles at the line from a run to a pass (we are spread and he saw 7 in the box) WR doesnt turn in time, they pick it at our 20 and quickly score. 31-26. We get the ball with 2 min to go, and score in less than a minute and leader 34-31 with 1:19 to go. KO, and they return it for TD. We get stopped on their 10 when time runs out.
We also came back from a 35-7 halftime deficit to tie our archrival in the conference championship game 4 years ago only to lose on a last second hail mary 42-35

been there, realdawg ... we were up 21-6 with 4 minutes to go and had the ball. couldn't make a first down. couldn't get a stop or make them drive the field. gave up big plays in a hurry. then, lost in overtime. sucked, real bad, to say the least. however, it was 3rd ball game of the year and i think it helped make us a better team as we overachieved the rest of the year and made a good run. in fact, the next week we score from 45 yards out on last play of game -- gave up a TD to fall behind with 30 seconds left, start drive on our own 20. 3 plays gain 35 yards, then pull one out of our, uh, hat on final play to win.

Reno versus Utah State in 92 or 93. I don't remember the score, but it was the the second or third greatest comeback. We (Reno) might have lost the game, so it may not have been considered a "comeback". I was just a crappy Freshman who watched it from the bleachers. I think I was watching the girls more than the game.

We beat a team that had dominated our county and state for years, we had not beaten them in 12 years and only a handful of times in the 25 year school history. We were down by 21 at the half and 18 to start the 4th quarter. At the start of the 2nd quarter netiher team punted the rest of the game, mostly due to scores but some TOD. We forced a fumble with 4 min left in the game and down 7 points at the 50 yard line. We drove the 50 yards and scored with just over a inute left and knew we could not stop them in OT so down by one we went for 2 and walked in. Our runnign back had 30 carries for 312 yards and 5 TD's he was a horse and is playing way below level now at a D3 school but loves it. We won 54-53, highest scoring game in county history and over 1000 combined yards, we started the season 0-6 that year and finished 4-6 we lost 4 games by a combined 17 points. Def a missed opportunity and below average coaching job with a very talented squad.

In the 92 season we (Reno Nevada) came back against Utah State to win and I think we were down 48-14 and ended up winning 51-48. I can't remember the actual score, but it was amazing. I was just a freshman then. And the year Before I got there, Fred Gatlin led the Wolfpack in the greates comeback ever in Division I history.
