If so, do you like it? Is it user friendly? What are pros/cons?
Thanks, Donnie

Whoever did that needs the {censored} kicked out of them. That absolutely sucks for the team.

How many plays do you average per game in the hurry up no huddle? Offensively and defensively?
Thanks, Donnie

We bought one of those field marking kits and were at the game field last week putting it in. While double checking our measurements we found out that our field is 5 feet too narrow, only 155 feet wide! It's got concrete markers at the 4 corners and for the hashes that we always used to pull our string and measure from, but when we put the tape to it we got a small field. Sideline to hash is right on 53-4 but hash to hash in the middle is 48 and change.

utchuckd and calande, do your state associations allow telling a kid he can't play? In IL, I don't think you can legally tell a kid not to play. I'm just wondering how that would effect Calande's statement on summer camp and utchuckd's statement on spring practice. Wow! Somebody knocked the dust off this thread! I really don't know if it's legal or not. My main point to start all this was that the basketball team has tryouts, the baseball team has tryouts, etc... I think it gives those sports a different meaning to "make the team". I'm certainly not saying we have tryouts and cut people, but maybe have something formal that says you "made the team". It would be something that anybody that wanted to could do, basically just a meeting or orientation or something that required an attendance at a function that says ok this is the football team who wants to be on it?

Would like to know what kind of requirements you guys have for players to join your football teams. I was thinking how the other teams at school (baseball, basketball, for ex.) have tryouts and choose their teams, basically because they have to because of limited roster numbers. But football generally doesn't do this. So, instead of having "tryouts", what do your guys have to do to join the team?
Two years ago when we started the season with 34 players and ended it with 24, we were letting kids just come out and join the team all the way up to season. As we get start to get more kids out for football (40 last year, roughly 50-60 this year), we got to thinking that this isn't a feasible or fair policy. So this year we're implementing that they have to go through spring practice to be on the team (aside from being on a spring sports team). And in the future we're looking to do something more official, not really a tryout, but at least a formal signup meeting or something. Thoughts?

We've got the digital scout scoutware and statware. We don't use the scoutware anymore because we get the same reports out of proscout. Never tried using scoutware during a game and don't know if it's possible because there's a bunch of exact stuff to put in between plays and I don't know if there's enough time to do it real time. But maybe if you're good enough with it it's possible. We do use the statware during games and sync the pda to our computer right after to get the stats. That's fairly simple. We had a kid do it the past 2 years as an eighth grader and freshman. You can get a pda that will work on ebay for fairly cheap, we got a black and white one like was mentioned before, just make sure it's got the right software because some of the older ones have sync problems.

Word is they are going after Mike Heimerdinger. To make this topical instead of gossipy Dinger was the OC for the Titans for 5 years (00-04 roughly) with Steve McNair. His style/offense is supposedly more suited to VY than what Chow wanted to run, and he's had experience with a 'mobile/athletic' QB in McNair.
Editorial: I've heard Dinger left the Titans because of the GM at the time, who is no longer there. Since the GM is no longer there Fisher may be going after someone he is familiar with and he thinks will come back to Nashville now. Just a guess tho.

The way I see it "spread" is a certain type of formations or sets you run your offense from, while the run and shoot is a certain set of plays you run.

It will be our base. Already have Pro, Pro/Twins, Twins Open (2x1), and Doubles (2x2), and was going to add a 3x1 so I would have 1 type of each formation. Personnel has us with a TE this year, in our twins open and doubles the TE will just slide out more than we will sub for him. Should I cut any of these out?

any of you that run hurry up, how many formations do you use? what are they? I'm looking at 5, maybe 6. Having trouble deciding on the last one or two. Looking at trey and trips open to get a 3x1 formation, but don't know if we need one or the other or both. Also thought about using bunch as our 3x1 formation, and just moving all 3 tight or wide.

Man we had fun today. We took the guys down to the wrestling room and did some mat drills. Thanks to the guys who posted stuff in earlier threads, we got a lot of good stuff there. High intensity, high effort. Don't know if i've ever seen our guys work so hard with that big of smiles on their faces. They had some fun.

We had Darin Slack come in last week to work with our QB's and just wanted to pass along how great an experience it was. First off, before we ever got started I found out that a couple of my top guys weren't going to be there after having known about it for over a month. They decided summer basketball/baseball was more important, which is something we'll get figured out. But the point is it left me with a senior, jv, and freshman qb plus a couple of middle schoolers. Well, when Coach Slack called me Thursday afternoon before we got started he could tell I wasn't happy about being stiffed by my starter and another senior and he offered to call the whole thing off at no expense. Keep in mind he had already flown in to Nashville and rented a car and drove over an hour to get to town. He said if I didn't think I would be getting my money's worth from the investment because my #1 wouldn't be there he'd be glad to cancel rather than let me have a bad experience. That's a first class move in my book. Anyway I told him we were still excited to have him here and we would just consider it an investment in the future of the program to work with our younger guys. So we went ahead and man, what a great couple of days. I think I learned as much or more than my players (and I went to one of his camps last year!) It definitely helped me be able to coach it more after watching him install his drills and take the kids through their reps. It's all about zero! We had dads and coaches and kids all lined up across the field to taking the same reps. (Although it can be a bit humbling as a 35 year old 5A high school OC to have a 15 year old correct you on a throw and then watch the ball fly out of you hand perfectly when you do what he says .) He did an excellent job of communicating with us throughout to make sure we were getting what we needed, even breaking up the high school guys to get a little more throwing reps and the middle school guys to get a little more footwork drills. Overall a great experience. If you can get your qb's to one of his camps do it. If you can't get them there go yourself!

Struggling team, they've lost 21 of 22. But they have a new head coach so they could be ready to go. Basically an offset I, Power, counter, trap, a little quick game and sprintout. Pretty base 4-3. We ended a 39 game losing streak against them last year and tore the goalposts down at our house so I'm sure they're ready to return the favor.
