We call ours a unity council. We take the team and split them into 8-10 groups. Then we take a senior and a junior in each group and make them the leaders of that group. (We actually figure out who we want to be the group leaders out of our srs and jrs then fill in the groups from there.) We have them meet in their groups once or twice a month- the HC makes up an agenda of things for them to discuss. Can be anything from talking about team goals for the season to making sure everybody in their group has a ride to workouts, and anything we vote on as a team gets done in unity council groups. Then the group leaders meet once a week or so before school with the HC. He brings in donuts and they talk about team related stuff. He gets some good feedback that we normally wouldn't get.

So you're looking for people to get up there own group to go instead of coaches that could help an already established group?

Well we had our banquet last night and as we were winding down the president of the booster clubs was making some remarks and thanking different people. So as he gets towards the bottom of his list he says "and least but not last, the coaches". I don't know if anybody else even picked up on it, and I know it was totally a mistake, but I got a little laugh out of it.

I agree with your HC but not fo the same reasons that he used. Your backup kids are getting a chance to play and they deserve a chance to actually play the game. I think it's unfair to your backups to tell them to fall down instead of scoring a TD that may be the highlight of their career. If the other coach doesn't understand the difference between running it up and allowing your backups to score on a base run play then he needs to grow up. Your responsibility is to your team and your kids. I agree with phantom here. Just because you do score score doesn't mean you're running up the score. If you're letting your seconds and thirds run your offense and your not doing anything out of the ordinary to get more td's then it's on them to stop you. I've been blown out by plenty of teams and I'd rather a second or third team TB finish his run than fall down to keep from scoring.

I'm in Tennessee. We mainly do like you, review our basic stuff (intro for new guys), get our footwork and fundamental work down. Look at any changes we're thinking about, see what works and doesn't. We're also going no huddle this year, so we're getting that system installed.

Woo-Hoo! We started spring practice today. We got a good heavy contact period in and got run inside by the lightning and thunderstorms. We then went in the gym where my sophomore QB promptly did a 3 step drop into the bleachers. Hopefully we'll get to stay outside tomorrow.

I would love to eliminate mental errors. But I found that with 15-18 yr olds I almost have to game plan for them! I would also put the penalties spreadattack mentioned in with mental errors. I think the top 2 for me would be eliminate interceptions and score in the red zone.

think Bama should go after the Tennesse OC (Cutliff (SP)) Don't think that's a possibility. Cut may have gone to Bama, but the Tennessee ties are way too strong for him to ever be accepted there.

I had to run someone out of the press box during a game this year. The best part is that we were up by 20+ w/ under 2 minutes left.

Look in the playbook section. A couple of weeks ago somebody posted a powerpoint of how to change a light bulb.
I've got some film of leaf raking I'd love to trade for film of changing a light bulb.

I've got a Lite On LVC-9006 and it works great. Would recommend it to anyone. It records from DVD to VHS both ways and has an easy guide button that makes it very simple (that's why I like it so much!). It got a very good review from CNET who also said it's recorded DVD's work well with a lot of other DVD players, which apparently can be a problem.

We use MyDVD which was already on our laptop when we got it. Haven't used anything else cause it does what we need for now. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones out there. I'm surprised Nero won't do it.

When you have the plays you want loaded as a playlist hit the export video button. This will make an mpeg file of the playlist. Then use whatever dvd burning software you have and burn the mpeg file to the dvd. Make sure your Proscout is updated. I spent forever looking for the export video button when I didn't even have one.

How is yours set up? Who is in it? Mainly parents or any community members?
What is their focus? Supporting the program as a whole or just making sure their kids are taken care of that year?
How involved are you in what they do?

Thanks for the responses. We've seen plenty of stuff on film this week to work on so we'll spend most of our time working on us. Emphasizing fundamentals and such.

We have a bye this week and I wanted to know how do you do practice in an off week? Gonna give 'em Friday off (got a JV game scheduled) and our thoughts are to try to get 'em out a little early the other days as long as they still work hard. Next game is a region game and possibly for a spot in the playoffs. The team has a new coach so we don't know exactly what they do offensively or defensively and won't get film til next weekend. Any suggestions?

Buy Christmas presents, that is if the check gets cut from the central office in time. If not, pay the bills from Christmas presents.

We're supposed to get 2-4" of rain tomorrow and they called and pretty much said if we get it we'll postpone it til Saturday. So we all agreed to go ahead and play it now instead of spending tomorrow playing the wait and see game and not know if/when we're gonna play.

How's this for a shot of adrenaline? Just found out our game tomorrow has been moved up to tonight because of some weather coming in. So my Friday morning ritual of getting everything together and making call sheets and organizing everything just got turned into my own personal scramble drill. Yee-ha! I love this job! ;D

Just heard on the radio that Akansas leads the SEC and is top 5 in the country in rushing, but is like 109th in time of possession. They avg. 4 mins less TOP per game than their opponents. Just struck me as odd.

The thing I really like about the Landro is you can capture into it during the game and mark Off/Def/ST on game nights and your basic cutups are already done. But I don't think this is enough of a feature to justify the $$$.

So you can capture and edit on one computer and then send that to other computers to work with? I like that, don't think you can do that w/ Landro can you? What do you guys do with past seasons games? Is your computer just big enough (memory wise) to hold everything, or do you store them elsewhere? Seems like this might be an issue with whatever system you use? Thanks for all the responses on this. Oughta give the HC and me plenty to talk about.

We'd have to put some money into a new computer to go Proscout, so there's gonna be some investment there (although not as much), even with the free software. But we are also looking at a Landro, since the administration ok'd the money to buy one. The Landro looks the easiest to use, but we're wondering if it's worth the money ($5000 range) vs. the limited investment with the Proscout software.
