Our O-line coach would stroke out if we suggested this!

Workin on that film. Think I've got a copy comin. If anybody gets CSS they're showing an "all-access" week with Tennessee right now and it's the Air Force week. Nothin real earth shattering but kind of cool.

Let me check around and see if I can find somebody who taped the game. Never know when your gonna run across a Vol fan down here that's got every game since 1962.

I like the zone for an eating program. It can get too technical and overwhelming when you're introduced to it but at the heart it's all about common sense. Gotta get back to it cause I just hit 220 on the scale for the first time in my life. One year ago today I ran the half marathon in Nashville, then 2 months later blew a hammy playin church league softball and carried that into football season so I got out of any physical activity. Just starting to work out again and actually still feel it in my hamstring a little. Anyways, if not in season I find it easier to run in the evening, just can't get going in the morning. In season I'm usually kind of wiped after practice and don't feel like running so like most of the rest of ya'll I get out of it. The thing I'm gonna do first is get back to eating right.

I've seen references to it a couple of places but am not familiar with it. Does it use a wing? Seems like I saw somewhere that it does. If anybody has any info I'd appreciate it.

Does anybody else not like listening to most announcers (color guys mainly) during football games? There are a few that I like, but mostly I don't really care for them. Most of them played football and know the game, but it seems like they are too busy trying to just talk about what's happening that they don't really say anything. I realize it's got to be hard to watch a game and talk about it at the same time, but since I started coaching it seems like I disagree with what they think happened on the play, or it just doesn't make much sense. Maybe it's just me. Sorry for the rant.

The quickest and easiest way would be to use a DVD recorder. It's pretty much like using a vcr, hook your DVR box up to it, hit play and record.

Didn't mean the actual plays they drew up. Sorry. I just found it amusing that some fans (especially UT ones) that were trying to come up with a creative/innovative offense would draw up what is virtually the DW. Not that I don't like the DW, don't get me wrong. But if they actually rolled that out on the field the coaches would get roasted!

I like the idea. Better make sure you get enough for jeseys to at least replace them!
I don't know if we'd try something like that homecoming week, but if you can pull it off it sounds like great pr and a great way to get community involvement.

Thats a cool idea coach. My bet is that if you get it started at home you'll have at least a group of them take it on the road with you to support the team.

Not trying to nitpick you just that the link doesn't work.

Our local sports guy is one of my best friends. We have an unspoken rule that I don't tell him how to do his job and he doesn't tell me how to do mine. We've both got plenty of other people doing that!

Didn't want to hijack the other thread so I'll ask it here. How do you game plan your play calling with different series of plays? Say you have the base play, a second play, a counter, and play action off of a given backfield action, how do you fit those into given down/distance categories on your playsheet? Seems to me that running plays in a series gets the defense to react to the intial look of the play and then hit them with something else off that look, and during the game knowing when to call the next play/counter/pap would be more by watching how the defense is reacting vs. saying we're gonna run these plays from this series in these down/distance situation. Does that make sense?

I thought you just blamed the coaches. It's all their fault anyway! Or is that just around here? ;D

We have CPR classes and AED classes every so often at the school. When you sign up to coach here you have to go to a 2 day course run by the state association which one day of it is first aid.

Is it freshman linemen for step over bags and wr's as hand shields? We use the fire hose, chutes, and 5 man sled daily.

What kind of time do you get to have in the weight room with your team? We have a weightlifting class the last period of the day where all the football players are in it. We have heard of other schools that do weightlifting classes all day long and then some don't have one at all and have to lift before/after school. What's your set up?

Come to think of it that's our punt formation. Was thinking about the angles on blocking and play action possibilities.

on my hands now that our season's over, but maybe not. What do you think of this? Take a couple of FB types and align them like guards, then put the guards beside them, then your tackles. Take the 2 FBs and step them back just far enough to where they are off the LOS. Is this a bad idea? Seems like you could get some good trap angles, maybe some wham, plus you got 2 eligible guys coming out of the middle. What do you think?

I like being up in the box. I can see more, plus I tend to get excited and caught up in the action if I'm on the sideline so it keeps me away from all that and lets me keep a (fairly) cool head.

That was Bowden Wyatt's single wing at Tennessee with Johnny Majors at tailback -- the program unchanged at that point (mid-50's) from what General Robert Neyland installed in 1926. And it stayed unchanged until the mid-60's, basically costing the Vols a recruit from right up the road named Steve Spurrier.

We used to use the big metal laundry pins. Until one of our players pulled one on another in the locker room.

Pulled some of the agendas and here are some of the topics from them. There were usually 3-4 topics/questions for each meeting. These were pulled from meetings from April thru August.
List everyone's contact info. (phone, address, etc) What are team goals for the season? What color (black or white) do you want for team cleats? How is everyone going to get to summer workouts? Make a list of how much eveyone has raised. (lift a thon) How do you want our team to be known in the region? What are your expectations for summer workouts? Be sure everyone has a ride to summer workouts. See how many cards each player has sold. (Our varsity gold cards) Discuss Team expectations and Team Goals. List 5 things you hope to accomplish during fall camp.
