MAYBE they need to get more hyped for the opening kickoff? perhaps the other team has gotten more hyped and ya'll cant match it? Good point. Probably depends on who has the better run through tunnel and pyrotechnics We'd be undefeated if this were true lol

I think whatever you do, it should be authentic. Whether it's coming from the coach or players. Be true to who/what you are. If you are half-ass all week and then come out fired up and rowdy game day, everyone knows your full of it
Reminds me of when I was working on my speech game. One of the best Tedtalks I've heard on this simply stated "Speak from the heart" As soon as I heard that line 2 minutes into the video, I understood it and didn't need to watch the entire thing. When you speak from the heart, raw emotions, people can feel that. I imagine hype game falls under the same thing.

I used to live in the gym so I can give you some general pointers
Losing weight is simple. Don't confuse simple with easy. It is literally like football in that it comes down to execution not the scheme.
Losing weight falls under these 3 basic premise 1) Eat less 2) Move more 3) sleep/rinse/repeat
Notice how simple that was yet people have made millions of dollars recycling the same message over and over again or they come up with "new" things every year.
Some general rules 1) You cannot OUTTRAIN bad nutrition. Maybe Olympic swimmers/endurance runners can but for the rest of us, nope. Diet is like 90% of the battle and is where most people fail. 2) If weight loss is #1 goal, do cardio that gets the heart rate up for a length of time 3) Resistance training = Do compound movements that uses the major muscle groups (Back, Chest, Legs) Don't waste time doing isolated (example: single arm wrist curl)
Don't forget that there are MAJOR mental/physiological health benefits along with being active that you cannot disregard! As always, see a physician before beginning any exercise program.

I may get an opportunity to be an assistant at the HS level at a great program. Thanks to all the wonderful people here, I've learned a lot. My mentality is "Do whatever the head coach asks as if it is the most important thing in the world." I now understand the full plate a HS HC already has and will work my butt off to take as much off as possible while adding value where ever and however I can.
With this said, my question for you guys is how do you do all this without becoming a "Yes, man" type of guy? Is this something to worry about or is it on a case by case basis depending on the HC philosophy and whether he wants input from his assistants?
My plan is to keep my mouth shut, learn everything I can, and give input when asked but does this come off as "Yes, man"? My concern is not being a critical thinker/offering my thoughts (when asked) versus just blindly agreeing with everything because I am low man on the totem pole.

I haven't bought a system but I have done the following: 1) Read as many books as I could on given topic 2) Find as much internet resources as possible 3) Speak/ask as many questions as possible to learn from other coaches
I do this because I am okay with admitting I don't know jack chit about football realize the game has been around for 100+ years thus no need to re-invent the wheel Learn from coaches who have done this longer than I've been alive
Oh and it's all science's fault. They haven't been able to get the life expectancy rate to exceed 100 so I know I have time to experience/learn everything for myself. Sadly, this leads me with no other option thus I have to learn from others to accelerate the learning process

I used to believe in a fighters walk until I saw Manny Pacquiao walk into the ring. All smiles and waving at everyone like he is going to a movie premiere. The guy can't even hold a pre-fight staredown without giggling. Then the bell rings and he turns into this absolute destroyer.

Not sure if this helps but whether you realize it or not, I think just typing and sharing your experiences here will help you mentally/psychologically through venting and letting out what's on your mind. The confirmation from us (other coaches) that it is "normal" and we are all going through it will put some ease to your mind. I know it doesn't sound like much but when I'm really stress over teaching/coaching and I talk with fellow colleagues, I'm reminded that we all are feeling it to a degree. Then I ask myself the question, is this what I really want to do, am I really enjoying/loving what I am doing, if the answer to this is both yes then I take a deep breath, count my blessings, and then get back to the grind.

Interesting situations, as the opposing coach is it your responsibility play 10-on-10 or do you ignore it and play with a man advantage? I would just find it difficult to wrap my head around when you start to "comeback and win the game" because you had a man advantage.

We look for the guy we can't block or threaten with a pass route. Where is he...and what is he doing? What determines if you can/can't block the guy? i.e., how many chances do you give your guy to see if he can make the block? Maybe he just whiffed the first time or wins a block/lose a block type of deal?

We slap #1 on our 4th string WR, let him rock the clear visor, attach a back-strap plate, sleeveless armband on one-arm, hoot, holler, and send signals his way. Commands instant double team from defense, thoughts?

Way to pass the buck, man... Not my fault, I'm just the OC. I'd have already fixed this stuff. I wish I had the authority to undermine the HC and do what he decides, but that's not how I roll buck. If he's in charge I do what I can in the situations. I talk to the kid about ways to be a better teammate and how such narcissistic things can be detrimental to the team, but at the end of the day I can't decide what would be appropriate punishment for lingering issues. I can only suggest. That's my role as assistant coach. Undermining the HC is a thing of the past, see thread regarding "Backdooring HC" in the Advice/classroom section of the forum

Imitate the greats "What do you want me to do? Kick a field goal?" - Bill Belichick (2007) on why he went for on 4th and 2 when leading by 30+ points (just kidding)
Side question: What happens when you score triple digit? Does the scoreboard break (serious question!)

as I have quite a few offensive books to read first, but I'll eventually get to it. per this quote thread needs to get moved to offensive section lol. Goodwill is the best place to shop, physically and online. Once found a Ray Lewis jersey for $15 bucks and gave it to one of my players who idoled him.

I think the themes work more if it's truly a part of what you are. If it's just something you're going to talk about, I believe it's going to sound forced and come off not authentic. Here's an idea for you about a concept I am going to talk to our players about soon. Sacrifice
Tidbits are - why do I wake up every day 4am and leave 14 hours later? Why does one of my assistant have his wife/kids siting in the car hanging around during our practice? Why does my other assistants give up their free time (unpaid volunteer) to be here? Parents/guardians busting their butts so you can have a roof/food over your head? teachers working past their school hours so you can learn? Sacrifice, we all do this for the team (for you). I've described the team as a living, breathing, organism and everything we do is for the team so it can thrive. Sacrifice, just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening. This is bigger than just about "YOU", life is bigger than just being about YOU and the moment you realize that....
this ties into what I preach everyday which is that players represent more than just themselves, (it would be easy and selfish to just think about yourself all the time) they represent that last name they carry on their backs, their family, their coaches, their teammates, their school and before they decide to make a decision, think about all that. (and if they make a dumb decision well they just sh*tted on all of the above mentioned)
