We got new uniforms for our varsity team this year. With the new ones, we also have three hand me down jerseys (black, white, maroon) for the JV team to wear. On top of those, we have two jerseys that are past their prime (10 + years old) that we will not need/wear.
I am wanting to put the jerseys that we don't need up for sale. I know that we will be able to sell some, hopefully all of them. They are in decent shape and were used just last year as JV jerseys. After all of the rambling, my question is what do you think a good price point would be for the jersey? I'm in the $25-50 price range, but can't pinpoint an exact number. I don't want to price them too high and not sell them, but would like to use this as a little fundraiser (~$1000-1500). What say you Coach Hueyites?

I always price high and when I get the oddlook I remind them its for the kids and football program and that I'm not getting any profit out of this

I did the same. Offered them to our kids at a discount $10. Then to public for $20.

We did this the week of homecoming. Everyday that week is a different theme. Talked to admins and Thursday was throwback jersey day. Which gave the kids a reason to purchase them. Sold them for that week and week prior. I can’t rememver 100% but thought we did $10.
Also as silly and dumb as this sounds make sure to have short period where your players can buy them first. Maybe $20 for them, you would be surprised how many want to buy them for their GF or mother.

Also for future sake, if you have a popular number, but 2-3 of that number. That way you can rotate them to keep them in shape, plus you have multiple to sale when that time comes. And another thing, if you have a player that is/was 'famous' but several of those jersey numbers, slap a name plate on them and sell them at a premium.

We have had a lot of success selling them for $25 to parents and girlfriends. I will sell them at that price for two years (typically sell 25-30 total) and then discount them to $10 while trying to convince the student section to have a "throwback jersey" night!

Take some of them to your local church/old ladies who quilt, and have them turn them in to a jersey quilt. Community went crazy for them. Took the front and back jersey numbers to make the patches and put them over a nice felt backing. Super comfortable. We averaged $175 per jersey quilt, and the church group charged us a minuscule amount of money to make them. Used up a lot of the old jerseys real quickly. Especially the ones we couldn't sell individually.

convince the student section to have a "throwback jersey" night!
That is a great idea - wish I'd thought of it!

We are into our 15th year of our program, the first time we got a uniform change we auctioned them off. Alums were invited to our main fundraising nights to buy their old jerseys. Jerseys started at $40 as silent auction and most people got theirs at that price.
Multiple bidders went to live auction in person. A few went for a couple hundred dollars. Two people wanted #66, it went for $1000. It was frickin insane!!!
We've made it simpler now. We are into our 3rd jersey change, we sent it out via email that people could buy their jerseys and pick them up at Homecoming (or another time). If multiple people wanted the jersey, they put in a 2nd amount at the price they wanted to buy it at... highest amount got the jersey.

Our former HC held a sale before our rivalry game (Thanksgiving Day is varsity) - took the old jerseys (some were from 90s-early 2000s) to Little Turkey Day, the Saturday before Thanksgiving when freshman, Jv, alumni all play. Might’ve been $20 maybe. With the alumni th y sold soooo fast and it was an easy way to raise money.
Little OT but... I’ve thought of doing something similar but when th game film...see what can be collected/converted and fundraise that way, anyone try selling films?

Make sure you clear it with administration/school board. If you used school money to purchase the jerseys it may not be kosher to sell them without their approval.

Great ideas, thanks fellas. I've decided that we'll be selling them for $25 to start. It's been cleared by all appropriate channels (I hope) and we are hoping to kick this off right before the season. Thanks again. I'll welcome more ideas.

We had a 50 year reunion and sold a bunch of old jerseys. It may be worth while to reach out to your alumni. First come, first serve.
