And what happens when you do pick up the 4th and 18? You have 1st and 10 on the 30. Awesome. Only 70 yards more to go.
Meaning the reward isn’t even that great.
So - little reward. Extreme risk - other team gets ball inside 10. Low likelihood of even working since 4th and 18. Awful execution. Even a completion would have been way short of a first down. Plus, you are ruining the oppprtunity to use this when it could matter like punt on the 50 and 4th and 8.
That is just an all around awful call.

Ladies and gentlemen, the theory of never punting here at work

I don’t inherently mind the fake punt call. I think it’s stupid, but bowls are basically exhibition games so if you want to have a little fun no problem with me. But, the schematics of the fake punt were terrible. As mentioned above if completed they still don’t get the first down. Give me a hook and latter, give me a double reverse throwback, get a fat kid the ball, goodness give me something sweet. That fake was like getting toothbrush on Halloween!

I don't even understand the play design - I mean, receiving teams are usually all over those gunners to try to block them. Who has a fake going to them?!?! You usually see one of the up-backs/protectors sneak out, they're hardly ever covered.
Seemed dumb on multiple levels.

Didn’t they make some rule change a few years ago where that isn’t a penalty on punt? I might have just dreamed that. Lol

It's the 4th and 18 that gets me.
4th and 2 from spread/shield punt and snap it to an upback RB on some sort of power pull to get some momentum? Maybe. A slim maybe.

And I know I already said this, but if you convert and then don’t pick up the next first down, you are punting from the 30. I just don’t really see the reward. It is like going searching for gold in a piranha invested stream knowing that at most $100 of gold is there. Lol
